Burnout Paradise is an absolute dream come true. Never has there been a racing game so tuned in to a great experience. People keep complaining about hitting the back of cars and wrecking. At first I missed this feature as well, but after playing for a while, it makes it so much more thrilling. You feel scared when speeding through a city, as you should. The co-op is online only, but 90% of people play these games and have friends on live, so you don't miss much there. The map is an area that can be rough at first, but really, the aim is to learn the city. I'm class A for license, and I still find new things all the time. It's wonderfully vast, and I've enjoyed almost every second of playing this game. There's a demo for download on live, but really, you need to rent this game if you have any hesitation. Racing with a group of friends or completing challenges together is top-notch entertainment. Try this game, you won't regret it.

Did anyone check this game before it went out? Does the left hand at EA have any clue what the right hand is doing?
No ability to change the controls. In fact, no game options OF ANY KIND except music/sfx volume and overall screen brightness.
Counterintuitive menu system and GPS map.
A grand total of two camera views, one of which has UNUSABLY erratic camera movement controls, the other of which has no camera movement capabilities in the first place. Want to look to your left or right? LOL! Joke's on you!
No motion blur whatsoever, which wouldn't be such a dealbreaker if not for the fact that one of the MAIN SELLING POINTS of the game pre-release was heavy motion blur on every screenshot.
No speedometer, no tachometer, etc.
Silly map design considering how much work apparently went into the open-world city: one second you're driving past skyscrapers, the next second you're in the middle of the countryside. May seem trivial, but cheesy oversights like that can easily ruin a rather realistic city for those of us who pay attention to details.
The reason this is all so horrendously aggravating is that there's a really good game buried underneath all these ridiculous oversights. Absolutely excellent visuals and reasonably fun driving/racing and gameplay. Even here, however, there are the issues that other reviewers have pointed out: no crash mode, no vs. gameplay, etc. etc.
Overall, this release just reeks of opportunism. I'm sure there was a solid core dev team, but management apparently insisted on crippling their work. Thanks, EA!
A huge improvement from Burnout Revenge

It takes a few tries to get used to the map and the Compass and all but it is so worth the time. This is one of those games that the more i play the more i want to play untill i cant see anymore! Dont be afraid of the change its like an album you have to listen to a few times to get it but then it lasts for a long time instead of getting it right away and getting sick of it a week later. This game is awesome to play online as well. I cant get enough.

I will be giving you a honest review of :Burnout Paradise for the xbox 360.
One of the biggest things most gamers will notice is the graphic detail to the game it self . The detail to the city really makes the gamer more there then ever before . Also the detail done to the cars damage will really stand out as more damage happens. The makers of burnout paradise have put out one of the best car games to this date .
The game play is really cool your able to start the missions when your ready to . One of the best things to do before doing any missions is drive around the map first and learn it . So the next time your ready to do a mission you know most of the city layout . A cool feature is you could be driving down the road and notice a paint shop. You can drive the car into and as you go past the car will get a new paint job . This instant change also works for repairs . It's like after you have some car damage drive into the repair shop instantly your car is fixed .
The control system to burnout paradise is like most any other games. Once you learn what does what the fun bar just keeps going and going up. Because you will be able to pull off some great car moves that look insane. There is even a mission where you got to use your skills to keep your car from getting damage . This is the part having good controler skills and knowing the map comes in handy .
The graphics for Burnout Paradise is some of the best i seen for a game of this type. It seems they really done some work in the graphics and it really shows it! The detail done to the car's alone really do stand out. Also lets not forget the map it self , shows some time was put into the design of the map . Like i covered above just makes the gamer feel more like your really there. Also the detail work done for the damage of the cars is just really cool . I was like at some points in the game wow my car damage really stands out .
The audio tracks to the game is well done . It seems they put a good amount of time in adding some cool bands to it . I spent a good amount of time just checking the music out and liked everything . I normaly dont play the music in games like this , but Burnout Paradise is one of those rare games i will keep that music going on. The sounds comming from the car it self are just as good .
If your looking for a game that you dont have to worry about renting first to see if its any fun or not Burnout Paradise for the xbox 360 or even that other system is well worth getting . I seen verry little of this game before buying it and consider it one of my top xbox 360 games . As with all choices of renting or buying thats up to the gamer . So if you enjoy the burnout games of the past , trust me this is the best one of them all and well worth the price. If you never had a chance to see the burnout games of the past this would be the best game to start off with !
I have been a gamer for a good length of my life and giving others my honest thoughts to a game and helping others make a choice for a game makes me feel good . Also to show how happy on giving you a honest review of Burnout Paradise for the Xbox 360 . I have put 4 special names below that will help you out . The fun in finding out what the codes do will be up to you as the gamer !
Thanks for the time in reading my review of Burnout Paradise !

Criterion has changed the Burnout franchise for the best. Instead of the dated linear approach they have created something new for their franchise. And if you don't judge it on just the demo and play the real game you will understand how much better this approach is than the original games. Rent this game if you have doubts, buy this game if you like racing game.
This game rocks so hard

All the bad reviews of this game on amazon are not fair, with people saying how differnt this game is compared to burnout revenge, that game was really good and so is this if you want to play revenge play revenge. If it were the same everyone would be complaining about how there is nothing new and that it was a waste of money, I think this game is a step in the right direction with its true high def graphics and I actually do love the open world aspect and how you can get cars unlocked by running them off of the road. I also love how big this game is I spent 2 hours just driving around setting online records and beating other people's speed records for that particular road and finding jumps and other places like the stadium where you can do donuts on the field. I was getting lost during races but like the other guy said, it will get better as you play, one cool aspect is that the map beeps if your off course also the rear blinker indicates when you should turn but I was either too late or I was going to fast. The bottom line is you will have fun and you will not be bored if you buy this game, it is a must have in my book.
This is a great game contrary to the 1-star review

This game is unbelievably fun. The graphics are top notch as are the soundtrack, and basically all aspects of the game. It's very organic, there is no break in the gameplay to select events etc. you simply drive through an intersection and are given the option to enter the event. This is one of the better implementations of an events based game I've ever seen. To the person who said "If you go fast and hit a car you crash" Well, NO DUH! the physics are pretty good and the collision detection is perfect. I am thoroughly enjoying playing this game on-line and off. Don't hesistate if you are a racing fan or if you like great social gameplay. Exceptional, really.
Burnout? Where is Crash Mode?

I really enjoy the Burnout series (Even though I have been driving for 30 years, and my 10 year old shows me up in every race!) But what I have enjoyed the most in the past is Crash Mode, where you try to do the most damage possible to other cars and tally the cost of the damage. Burnout Paradise did away with it!! Why? I do not know anyone who did not like Crash Mode...it is like doing away with desert after dinner! I feel the same way about the explosions....why is it that cars cannot explode in Paradise..that was a big thrill in Takedown!
Next issue I have is the way the car crashes...In Paradise, if I crash into a cement divider, my car accordians...which it should do (as it has happened to me in real life years ago.) but if you hit a wooden fence, it should either go through it or damage the fence....instead, your car accordians, as if you hit a cement divider! That is just plain silly!
I love the free roaming capability, but aside from that, it is not the best of the Burnout series...they could have kept explosions and crash mode in, and it would have been a killer game!
Two steps forwad, two steps back

My favorite thing about the Burnout games has always been Crash Mode. It was fun to play and quite the stress reliever and had become a party game at my house. It was a blast to see who could create the most carnage and it was easy to pick up and play. When I first bought Burnout Paradise, I was immediately upset that Crash Mode was gone. I was going to sell it and call it a failure, but I kept playing around with it and found out that it is really a fun game. The open world play is fun and exploring is a great time waster. I've found myself driving around looking for signs to smash and ramps that I've never noticed before. Online play is a blast because you can complete challenges with other players and it really adds to the gameplay. There are still races and takedown challenges and they have added a stunt challenge, but for all these great things, it still doesn't excuse them getting rid of Crash Mode. The Showdown Mode they replaced it with, while entertaining, just doesn't hold up and is quite silly. Bouncing the car around and around trying to hit other vehicles just isn't as fun as Crash Mode. It actually took strategy to complete crashes on the old games, but showtime just requires you to look for buses to get multipliers and bounce around and around on the street like some big metal fish out of water. Overall, I would still say this game is worth buying and you will get hours of entertainment out of it, but I hope they bring back Crash Mode for future releases to take this from a good game to an awesome game.

One of the best driving games in videogame history so far. Ok I've always loved the burnout series and I compare lots of driving games to burnout but I see where the game could be better. Ok, with EA having competion in all areas in the videogame industry I'd say Flatout is their biggest competion and probably one of the driving games that really doesn't get the credit it deserves. In Burnout I don't get the same competive feeling like when playing Flatout. For instance: the graphics on Burnout are a plus but in Flatout I think it has more detail. Dare to compare - In Flatout they have drivers in the car - Burnout doesn't. You get your doors knocked off and no one is in the drivers seat. In Flatout the drivers have names, attitude, can get thrown from the car on a major crash & rank each driver at the end of each race. Burnout doesn't do that. In Flatout if you're on a dirt road the other cars can stir up so much dirt you can't see the road up ahead. Burnout doesn't stir up any dust or road dirt. In Flatout almost everything is destructible. From taking bridges out to blowing up gas stations, car tires flying everywhere etc. Burnout has a few but not nearly as much as Flatout has to offer. Flatout is also about $20.00 dollars cheaper than Burnout with just as much to offer and then some. If EA would quit trying to make more money and focus more on gameplay they could do a lot better. Like the Need for Speed series that EA makes also. How come that game can't just be added into the world of Burnout Paradise or at least branch off from the Burnout series with the same gameplay options? Need for Speed series would rock if it had the same gameplay as Burnout. Or just eliminate the Need for Speed series and import it into the Burnout franchise? With the Burnout gameplay I bet avoiding the police and running them off the road or racing through the city would be a lot more enjoyable. Also A new madden should only come out when they have created new gameplay instead of one every year. Heck you should be able to just update your rosters with a download and keep enjoying the same game you've invested in. But I'm not going to badger EA for doing what they do but if it was all about making gamers happy instead of making more money then the videogame world would be a better place. I still love my Burnout Paradise and the road rage mode is still the best. I just think if the developers are running out of ideas then maybe it's time for them to listen or hire some fresh ideas. Great game but there are some other great driving games out there that deserve to be noticed just as much as Burnout Paradise. 4 stars for being at the top of my list in driving games but unless it gets better I can't say for how long.
