"It slices and dices, even makes julian fries.."! I'm talkin' bout The Glave..

Despite it's obvious influences. DS is a very enjoyable action/shooter in which you play as hayden who is a government operative sent to Russia for a search and eliminate mission, only to be infected with a virus that comes equipped with a Glave (Bladerang).

And besides the gorgoeus graphics, the gameplay is solid! not only can you control the glave's movement of flight in first person mode, but it's often used for solving puzzles in order to progress any further.

as I had mentioned there are obvious influences when playing this game; GOW (roadie run, duck and shoot),RE4(ingame context,Zombies and a weapons merchant),Blade(boomerang blade) & Krull(boomerang blade). It's a cool mash-up that makes for a good game.

I also like making use of elements such as Fire and Electricity to power-up the glave during combat as well as puzzlesolving. Is it worth the wait?
well I had no idea that this game was in the works for five years so i can't elaborate other than to say it's worth the purchase.

More enjoyable with a strategy guide or some pro tips

I'm coming with the bad first. The game itself could've shined a bit more if they had visual tips or a more clearly way of explaining how to defeat the bosses in the game. Maybe some highlites or some sort of indicator giving you a clue in the heat of battle would've made it less frustating. Ok the main part that had me clueless was in the graveyard when you have to light that hard to spot torch to get off the board. I ran around that graveyard so frustrated knowing it was something simple but overlooked. Which is usually the case in this game. Now that was my only beef with Dark Sector. Now with the good. Some complained about not being able to crouch and I admit it could've been useful but once I realized that your man will crouch down low once he's near a low box or crate for cover, it was all good. Buttons (A & Y) are your primary use for defense with the use of the left analog to roll side to side while tapping the (A) button. Use the(A) button to get your back to the wall or crouch low when near a small crate. (Y) after you get the upgrade to create a temporarily sheild and further into the game if you're using an element you can cause a mild element explosion by clicking in on the right analog stick. If all else fails then RUN, it saved me plenty of times.
I think the gameplay and control are done well. And if you don't want to look down in battle to open up a crate then use your Glaive from a distance to do it. Not only that, you can steal the enemies weapon while they're reloading or after you kill them and your Glaive will retrieve the weapon or any ammo, documents & etc for you. Lovely graphics with nice music. Love the finishing moves also. Quick tip on fighting the walking mech tank the second time around. ( You can't kill him you have to get behind him and jack the driver out of the seat and take control. Otherwise you'll be fighting him untill you're dead. ) To really enjoy Dark Sector I suggest buying the strategy guide or find someone you know who's beaten the game already for pointers and you will enjoy this game far more than some of the reviewers articles I've read on other sites and magazines.

Dark, Beautiful Fun

With the exception of a few tedious boss battles(it's getting harder nowadays for games to make that concept fresh....), this game was just cool. And fun. And after playing a few really so-so games, it was nice to pick up something enjoyable. The game looks and controls beautifully; The controls take awhile to adjust but become 2nd nature; In fact, when I finished the game the first time, I started it back up now that I was good at hucking my oversized throwing star; The 'from the blade view' as it hurls into an enemy is a nice touch...And there are several nice touches in this game. Not a sci-fi as I thought it might be, but more urban decay and underground tunnel looking type stuff. Some locations even reminded me of Silent Hill at times, as well as the first Condemned game. Also, the over the shoulder angle works very well for this game. While not doing all that much 'groundbreaking' stuff, this game offers some nice surprises and a good time had by all. Great running feature too...he just looks too cool!

Great game... weak story

The game itself is a blast to play with plenty of suspense and action. Only complaint is that the game has a very weak story with very little explanation or real purpose behind the action.

Favorite Game on the 360

I saw some commercials and read some reviews so I figured I would rent this first. After a couple of plays, I wound up buying this game.

You are Hayden Tenno and are a government agent sent to a fictional small country in the USSR in the past. At first it visually looks like Gears of War and plays like it as well in the FPS style. Then you are given a toxin and thats when this game really begins to shine and break off to its own. Not only do you have various guns to kill baddies with, but you are given a three edged blade called a "glaive" that flies through the air at your enemies.

The glaive power-ups through the game are great. Nothing can be as satisfying as letting it go loose with the powers of ice, fire and electricity all while being able to slow down time for greater accuracy. There will be plenty of times you will be saying "Man that was an awesome kill."

Guns wise you will be powering up them as you progress as well with money you find or parts you sell back.

Overall a 15-20 hour FPS with 10 levels with some nice dark scenary to fit the game. Add this in with great auto-save points, some puzzle type challenges and some frustrating (but worth it) boss fights made this my favorite game on the 360.

Very Different

I was very weary of getting this game based on what some of the top magaizines and stuff were saying. I got it anyway and it was very cool. It is a totaly different concept in fighting in a game. The camera view is really nice because you are in third person but not so much that your character gets in the way of your view. Using the glaive that you get in the game (I'm not going to tell you how) is a lot of fun. You don't just throw it at stuff and people but, you can slow it down and the camera zooms in on it and then you can control the angle so you can pecisely hit your target. Cool creatures to kill, decapatations, gore, great AI.......overall the game is fun.

Really fun, but not enough

Ive played through this game a few times, on the easier difficulty then the harder. It really is a lot of fun the first time although the story can be a bit difficult to follow. Anybody who enjoys playing Gears of War would probably love this just like me. The only major complaint I have is that the multiplayer is terrible. The idea behind the multiplayer modes is great, and they would be tons of fun to play, but 95% of the other players (which is about 15 of the 16) are from eastern Europe, so there is way too much lag to get a decent game going. It is really hard to tell what is going on in the game, but you can still tell that it would be tons of fun in a lag free environment with a lot of other players. Overall, the game is a good buy if you can get it used or on sale with a decent discount, otherwise I would say just rent it for the single player, which is really fun.

3.5 stars..

This is an all around solid game, but nothing extraordinary. The game has good legnth(10-20), and has fairly new gameplay. The gameplay isn't copy-cat, its just not that fun to do honestly. The first half is awesome and your looking forward to more and more. However, the game does nothing new as the story progresses. You just battle a half dozen enemies, duck when needed, fire when ready, and thats really it. I havent finished the game but I would say its around a 7.0-8.0 range. If you see it for 30 or less pick it up , but for more than that, not really.

Great Game

While this game does have a few minor flaws it did manage to keep me interested all the way til the end, i really enjoyed the combat system as it is very similar to gears of war, and being a fan of anime type shows aswell as guyver, i really dug the whole alien suit with special abilities angle they went for , but yea it aint perfect but it does the job and as for multi player everytime i logged on no games were in session but it could just be my location. sooo if your a fan of action games try renting it first but if you like action and anime/guyver type stuff def get it you won't regret it.

Decent game

Finally finished it. The game does get repetitious towards the end and I cannot tell you remotely what the story is about. You keep gaining new powers as the levels progress to keep things interesting, but there just isn't enough to make it more entertaining. Biggest compaint I have is that the environments all look the same and aren't too interactive, e.g., you have these powerful weapons but cannot destroy cardboard boxes. A better mix of levels would have helped tremendously. More weapons would have been great too, but you can't accumulate enough money to buy more than 2-3 guns. And all the enemies look pretty much the same and the puzzles get old quick. There are a couple of good boss battles that I'd replay, but that's it. I'd change my rating to 3.5 stars. A definite rental, but then again, it is priced correctly now so you could add to your library and not feel ripped off.

I'm halfway through the game and here are my impressions:

For $20, this is not a bad game to pick up. It plays a lot like Gears but less refined. The graphics are pretty good; the only thing is that the environments and levels are pretty blase--hopefully they get better as most of the levels look very similar. The controls aren't too bad, only thing is that melee stinks and sometimes when you want to go into cover you wind up diving instead, but I had the same problem with Gears at times. Nothing more to add about the glaive or the guns as that's been covered by others.

This game is really under-rated due to it's lack of creativity and being a copycat of other games. That's fine--so give it a 1 for creativity; but that doesn't affect the fun you'd have playing it. If you like slicing and dicing people and don't mind the 3rd person shooter too much, then this is a great pickup at the price.
