I'm finishing the game solo the first time through, before I invite someone else to play it with on the hardest mode. I am enjoying this game a lot so far, I'm about halfway through the game. Yes, its short, but I think there is a good replay value with it. It's a lot like Gears of War, with a couple small improvements in the actual gameplay, great graphics, and good AI. The story is nowhere near as good as Gears, of course I'm only halfway through it, so maybe there are things to come, but the story isnt what grabs you, its the gameplay. There are a few unique options i havent seen before, but nothing completely groundbreaking. Its worth a try, rent it first and if you enjoy it as much as I do then buy it.
Good game in the tradition of Gears of War, a little bit short though

I bought this game having watched the video's on amazon, thinking that it might be similar to the traditional shoot-ums where second player isnt going to make all that much of a difference (like gears of war unless you play the hardcore mode) and i was wrong.
This game, unlike many in the past, focus on the dual player mode as a strong story point as well as joint game play. I found this quite refreshing and actually quite hard on the single player mode by myself (maybe because the Bot was a dumbass too but thats just a given).
I like the reliance of other players in the game, for health reboot or swapping weapons, its quite a challenge and keeps you on the lookout for what everyone else is doing.
Good storyline, love the use of weapons and how personal modifications can be made at any given time (a bit annoying being asked it consistently though) and overall fun. The graphics are amazing.
Few things:
1) Quite a short game: Don't get me wrong, as much fun as it is, they could have made it a bit longer, it took me about 6 hours to finish it :/... maybe they are looking to emulate an online community type sprawl like the Halo titles attracted for lan/online?
2)No System link= fail: If there is something that annoys me more then no system link apart from online, its having to share an HD screen split in half, it gets quite annoying at times, but you eventually get over it.
3 out of five stars, not the best but certainly fun.
Wait and get it on clearance for $20 in 6 months

Finished this on "professional" (the highest level) with my 14 yr old son in about 5 hours. After about a week of messing around with it and trying it on-line (the connection often drops or lags in the middle of the game) we are back to playing Call of Duty 4 on-line. If you don't have COD4 definitely get that first.
As the name implies it is meant to be played by two people. If you get dropped, your partner can revive you as with Gears of War. But, if you get dropped in a bad spot, your teammate can drag you to cover and revive you there.
You get paid for completing objectives and taking out bad guys. You get to use the money to buy weapons or upgrade the ones you have with new barrels, stocks, grenade launchers, silencers, etc. You can even get your guns "pimped out" with gold plating. My son really likes customizing his weapon set.
The games is built around teamwork. One of you gets the bad guy's attention blind firing a big loud gun (pimped guns get more aggro too) and your partner sneaks up on their flanks and takes them out. You even get a meter which measures how much attention you are getting (the game calls this "aggro"). The more aggro you aquire makes your character actually glow read and your partner gets a little transparent. Get the aggro meter way up and you get something called "overkill" which puts everything in slow motion and gives you unlimited ammo and 2x damage. There's a couple of other teamwork things like coop sniping (sniping two simultaneous targets) and "back-to-back" which is alot like the overkill thing except you and your partner take out bad guys while standing back-to-back.
Story and movies (that you can't skip) are above average. The graphics don't come close to COD4 or Gears.
The language is very graphic and not just an occasional S**T or D**N as in COD4. This game makes frequent use of F*** and M*****F***ER. Violence level is actually kind of tame compared to something like Gears or COD4. For example, there is no limb or head removal (as with Gears) or blood splats on the walls (as in COD4).
Very Solid

This is a very solid game, and I'm happy to see more developers spend some time on Co-Op campaigns instead of all the online versus stuff. Although the game was a little short, it was a lot of fun, much more so than most games that don't offer co-op gameplay. Call of Duty 4? Its a lot of fluff in a fancy package, but at its heart its made by a company that has failed to listen to its customers in each of its four iterations of the franchise. Enter Army of Two, a fu and fast paced shooter that provides a lot of replay fun. Is it fun online? Sure, but if you can't play co-op with your friends, who really cares? I hope that more devs take a hint from some of these games. A very solid outing and I'm looking forward to future installments.
Way better than I expected

For me the EA logo equals lower expectations.
In this case I was pleasantly surprised.
The game shines in many areas and is only lacking in a few (forgivable) places.
The thing that struck me the most is that this game has some of the best pre-rendered cut-scenes I've ever seen. Some scenes are just stunningly well made.
The gameplay is great. The aggro system, coop snipe, and overkill modes make gameplay deep and satisfying. Guns are kinda weak and a little on the unrealistic side, but still fun, and the weapon upgrade system only makes it better.
The AI is some of the best I've seen. While your AI partner still occasionally suffers from the dumb-dumbs, he is still far better that many other partner AIs that I've experienced.
The enemy AI is also pretty damn good, sometimes annoyingly good. When their health gets low they will run elsewhere for better cover. Or if they happen to see you trying to snipe them, they will immediately dive for cover.
There are many other little nice touches such as the GPS mode, which i won't get into much.
Story is a joke. It can be compelling if you pay enough attention. But it was blah overall.
Graphics look good but since Call of Duty 4 has raised the bar so high, they're nothing stellar. I will say again that the pre-rendered stuff looked amazing. Kudos to the art director on that.
Overall it's a much better game than I expected it to be and I recommend it.
Co-Op is where it's at!!

This game is definitly one of my favorites, mainly for the Co-op concept. Basically it's two mercenaries uncovering a plot to take over the government. It takes place in an alternate reality where private armies are a regular part of the landscape. The story is really good and the charcters are well written, but the co-op is where it's at. Even though the game is short, clocking in at about 10 hours or so, it's so much fun when you can play with a friend oinline and beat the game. Me and my buddy popped it in and beat it in under 4 days, including going to school. We both enjoyed it very much and he probably wouldn't have played it if it wasn't for the two player. Haven't tried multiplayer yet but this is definatly an awesome two player experience. Very challenging too, we played it on normal and had a ton of trouble, but now are trying it on difficult. Overall I'd say if you're a fan of the third person shooter genre then you should pick it up, if not then a rent may be better for you.
Also weapons customization is by far the best I've seen in awhile as well.
A Blast with a Buddy!

My favorite thing about this game is that it was made from the ground up with Co-Op in mind. It's a lot of fun to play with a pal. With a good selection of weapons to choose from and fairly smart AI, it's a game worth replaying. But be aware: to get the most from this game, you really do need to play it with a real live friend. In an age when it is increasingly difficult to find split-screen video games, I find this game to be important to my collection. Whether playing split screen or over XBOX Live, this is a great buddy-action-flick turned video game.
A pretty fun shooter!

This game turned out to be a lot better then I thought it was going to be. Playing single player is pretty cool, but playing co-op on XBOX live is really where this game shines. There are all kinds of fun 2 person moves and tactics you can perform (drag your partner, heal him, boost him up to a higher spot, pull him up to you, co-op sniping, riot shield etc.). The aggro feature is a pretty unique feature to the game as where when you shoot the most, you glow red and enemies are forced to attack you while your partner will become invisible so to speak and he can go kill them from behind. Makes sticky situations pretty fun and tactical. There are obvious Gears of War comparasions to be made here (the duck and fire based combat) but for the most part, this game stands on its own very well. The story is a little weak but the co-op more then makes up for it. The online versus modes are pretty fun too but I feel it would have been nice to have teams of 4 sometimes instead of always 2 vs 2... But i guess that would kinda ruin the gimmick of the game's title?
I'm sending my copy back. It's a mediocre game, only worth your time if you have someone to play with.

I specifically pre-ordered it to play with my girlfriend.
The graphics are pretty... but not THAT pretty.
The AI isn't all that special. Enemies aren't that smart, and the game attempts to make up for stupid enemies by throwing more of them at you. The experience just doesn't feel as realistic as with pretty much any other game I've played in the last three years.
I echo the sentiment of scar_raver that it's much better when played with another human being. (Again, the AI issue) Ostensibly, you're able to control a computer-run "buddy" with voice over your headset, but thus far I don't find this to be a tenth as good as the voice command technology in the Rainbow Six series.
The design of the game (story and flow) is extremely linear, overall... and feels a bit canned. Stale canned. Oh, here's another situation where you're going to do a back-to-back shootout. Here's a spot where you have to advance, against a hail of gunfire, and (SURPRISE!) just happen to have a riot shield handy. (One of you holds the ballistic shield, and one of you fires around it to take out enemies) The game doesn't leave it up to you when to implement a given tactic. I mean... you could choose to go without the riot-shield, but that'd be suicide. AoT's hyperlinear nature is only confirmed by using the game's "GPS mode," pressing the back-button to reveal a dotted line, telling you where to go, and what to do. I got to feel a little like a chimpanzee in the first two campaign missions.
I spent only fifteen to thirty minutes playing online in multiplayer... but with only four maximum gamers in a given game (two to a side), and the limited maps I saw, I wasn't real impressed. Army of Two will not hold my interest once I've solved the campaign with my girlfriend... I might go back and cooperatively play the campaign with some other online friends, but that's it.
I'm afraid that Call of Duty 4 has spoiled me... so many other shooters just don't seem to make the grade, after playing COD4. I had to stick with it, to tolerate my way through perpetual irritation with the combat mode in Mass Effect for awhile, until I got sucked into the story and began enjoying that game in its own right.
I'm sorry... I guess this is sounding like a fairly negative review. In fact, the game rates a 6-7/10 on my internal scale. It's especially worth getting IF you have someone at home to cooperatively play through it with. There are so few decent titles which you can do that on. (The lack of this may well be my #1 beef with COD4)
***
And, I have a MAJOR beef with GameStop. They had a deal going for months, where you could get a code for TWO extra weapons if you pre-ordered Army of Two from them. In fact, I only got ONE weapon when I entered the code... the machine-gun only. The promised sniper-rifle is nowhere to be found. I called GameStop's Customer Service line (1-800-883-8895) and they verified they are aware of the issue, and are talking to the developer about a patch to fix the issue. Everyone who bought into this deal was cheated out of their money.
great game

all i keep reading is everyone compairing this game to gears of war and cod4.this game is very similar to both the characters and gameplay remind me of gears and the graphics are similar to cod4 either way this is a great game.the game is based off money complete tasks get paid that simple the more cash you have the better gear you get it also has side tasks where you have to find different types of intel for which you get paid if you find. the gameplay isnt really that long but i have already started a new campaign to go back and try to find all the intel i missed and i NEVER go back and replay a campaign so i really am being honest when i say this is a great game and a blast to play so i would definetly reccommend going out and getting this game. thanks for reading
