I am a big RPG fan and this game take RPGs to a new level. The decide your own adventure aspect is refreshing. This game is like a big sci-fi film. I had read some non-positive things before I bought this game but most if not all in my opinion doesn't come from true RPGers. Great game a must have.
Best game I have played in a while

This is one of the best games I have played in a long time. As a person that has been playing the popular games for 20 years, I can easily put this up there with one of the best. Many missions can make this game short or long, offering 15 - 30 hours of gameplay.
On comparisons to Oblivion; Oblivion is a better pure fantasy RPG. All of the elements of an infinite fantasy universe are there in Oblivion, but Mass Effect has the right combination of third person shooter, RPG, and story.
Pros:
+ Too many to detail
+ Loved that you actually have to make critical decisions (e.g. which character will be left to die)
+ Best cinematics and story I have seen in a game
Cons:
+ Friendly AI is worthless (but most games have worthless friendly AI)
+ Enemy AI is good, but still easily defeated.
Compared with some of the top games
1. Final Fantasy 7
2. Kotor
3. Oblivion
4. Halo
Short But Sweet!

Bioware has created a masterpiece of gaming. Mass Effect is one of those games you wish was just a tad bit longer and more involved. The dialog feature is an improvement over the KOTOR series however you almost wish that this game took place in the Star Wars Universe. The writing was topnotch. The story was engrossing though it felt unfinished. It was a cinematic experience with a high replay value. This game represents the Next Gen era of games. A definite buy.
The best RPG ever made and then...

As I was playing through Mass Effect, it was shaping up to be the best RPG I have ever played. I was completely hooked on the engaging storyline, amazing graphics, exciting gameplay, and interesting characters right up to the point when the game abruptly ended after only 35 hours of gameplay. The extremely short storyline was very disappointing. I even took my time and completed most of the available side quests. Any RPG that can not keep me entertained (on the first play-through) for at least 2 weeks does not deserve a 5-star rating. Beyond that, this game is nearly perfect. The graphics in this game are absolutely incredible. The gameplay is fun and exciting. This game's storyline is very engaging and entertaining and is, perhaps, the best video game storyline I have ever encountered. The main characters are very deep and interesting. The sound effects, music, voice acting, etc. are all first rate. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes RPGs (especially Knights of the Old Republic) or shooters. Just do not be too disappointed with the brief storyline.
Can't wait for Mass Effect II!

First things first!! This game isnt polished as one would expect from a AAA title, however that being said this is still fun and has some of the best voice acting I have seen so far!!
I am currently playing it for the third time around and have spent about 58 hours so far on this game. Once you get over the technical glitches and seriously similar level design (there are technically only about 4 types of buildings and only the internal objects(crates) vary. However the graphics are beautiful!
The game is fun and has a really decent scifi story line. It is a M rated game with voilence and partial nudity.
Mass fun is more like it

This game brings it all and Bioware does not disappoint. Bioware has been known for open dialogue games such as Knights of the Old Republic. This game allows you to choose to be good or bad depending on your responses during dialogue sessions. There are plenty of weapons and upgrades as well as armor. Different classes to choose from and different endings.
This game will have you playing atleast twice through if not more!
Its fun but short

Similar to previous endeavors by BioWare, this game has a good story line. The characters that join you on your journey are interesting and fun to talk with. If I had criticisms, it is that the game is too short - I was through it in a couple of days. It does not have high replayability either. The side missions are somewhat boring and the planets those side missions are on are ALL mountainous. Every single one, loads of high peak mountains, just different colors. What I was expecting was the converstations to have wider variety and outcomes. The way the game was advertised you would be in control of your destiny. Not really true, the game pushes you to its ultimate end regardless of your choices. This game reminds me of Knights of the Old Republic (also created by Bioware - good story line etc). So I was expecting this game to be better - not just in graphics, which it was, but in dialog options and nuances. I think that perhaps its too much to fit on one disc. I think this game would have done better on PC and add a few more discs, and few more planets and involved missions, and a lot more converstation options. Overall you will probably like it but for the veteran game player, its just ok.
Not what I was expecting

I rented this game from gamefly and i was a little dissapointed. I took a look at the reviews and thought this was going to be a great game. Right at the start i could tell that they must be blind. The game has a lame storyline. The aiming/shooting controls are terrible and lame. The story is sooooooo long. you talk to people more than actually playing the game. You get lame crappy weapons. Theres no reloading just a heat sensor. The reason why is gave 3 stars instead of 2 or 1 is that i bought it for $10 and its not a total waste of time. The graphics are insanely amazing. I would say its better than some games, but is not as good as people say it is. My buddies also say the same thing about this game and how poor it is.
Worst game on 360

I'm a big fan of Bioware and of the Xbox 360 in general, but this game is boooring. The dialog is slow. I spent 5 minutes talking to a character and it didn't advance the storyline at all.
You would also think that if one is going to spend 5 minutes in an elevator, the next level would LOAD while one is in the elevator.
All in all the game is slow and boring. After about 2 hours of gameplay I found myself rooting for the machines to take back the universe.
Mass Effect = Major Disappointment

First let me say this game had great potential and I have also played it through to the end. The game has a great story, graphics, and sound. Only problem with the graphics is when the start to move... Throughout the game there are framerate issues and the last battles of the game I thought it was going to crash on me. There is way too much talking and not enough action. I like RPG's but in this one the talking gets on my nerves. Some of the talking and story get cheesy but a lot of other games do too. There is nothing I can say that hasn't been said already.. If you are thinking about buying the game I'd rent it first and play it for a couple hours. One thing is that the game has lots of side quests and can be quite long but the actual story is short. It took me 20+ hours and there was still more quests. There isn't a very good selection of weapons and armor either.
