The Best Football without being on the field

This is the best football game you will play on any system. Defense reads your plays, you must change your gameplan to win. The catches and interceptions are more realistic than ever before. Madden has just outdone himself this year. This game is the ultimate since most of us don't play on Sunday. If you love football go get the game. I can't wait for this years Madden2002 tournment.
Not perfect, but pretty darn close.

This game is very much superior to last years game. For starters, there is actually a pass defense for once. Your DB's will stay with and actually cover the receivers. The computer AI has improved, so you actually have to play with the abilities that your players have. Last year you could take anyone down with Cleveland, this year it is a hell of a lot harder. My favorite option is Franchise. If you sign a player and cut a different one, you will take a hit to your salary cap until either the contract runs out or they are picked up by a different team. Plus, you can now challenge the call on the field whenever you want to! The graphics have much improved, and there is more activity on the sidelines. I knocked a player out of bounds and into the Gatorade table. And the Gatorade went flying everywhere. I prefer the little things in the game, and there are many. The field gets torn up even more this year from use. Uniforms will get dirty depending on the amount that the player hits the dirt. Still waiting for puddles to splash when players run through them, but all in good time I suppose. The only annoying this is the menu rap music. While it is a catchy tune, after the 10,000th time hearing it you are glad you can turn it off. The expansion draft is a cool feature, with being able to start a team up from scratch. Another nice update they did is no longer are there the "super Players" in the draft. The highest player I have seen yet is an 83 DE. So it seems that they are more down to earth.
This is the most complete football sim yet. The only thing I truly wish for is the ability to trade future year draft picks.
I OWN this title...and it lives up to it's billing.

Lucky enough to have found a small-town hobby store who managed to take delivery of Madden 2002 on Monday, August 20th!. This titles continues to amaze me, year after year. The amount of detail available from top to bottom is almost TOO MUCH! For those of us detail-oriented, the only drawback is choosing from the literally thousands of options for faces of new players. The gameplay, as always, is top notch. As the advertisement reads, this is still the ONLY GAME THAT MATTERS.
Madden does it again!

I recently purchased the new "Madden 2002" for my Ps2, and although its' a good game, i feel as if there is something missing. Madden and Summeral aren't annoying like i thought they would be, they actually make pretty good comments w/o over doing it. The game play is pretty good although it's a little hard to run, and during the coin toss the players heads look sooo funny, and a bit unproportioned in comparison to the rest of their body (it's hillarious). I do think that the Dreamcast's football franchise of NFL2k is better, even though i've been playing Madden for almost ten years now (dating back to the Sega Genesis). All in all its a pretty solid game and a good purchase for all of the Madden fans out there.

Excellent Graphics, content ease of use, my biggest problem with this game is that it is almost impossible to win a game. Sure, you can make many first downs, but in the weeks I have had it, it is near impossible to score a touchdown, in fact I have only scored one. Maybe I am old fashioned, but I prefer games that don't take hours of dedication to master. I just want to relax and have a challeging, but winable games.
Excellent!!

The greatest sports gaming franchise on earth has done it again...how do they manage to improve every year!! One question, are they going to make an NCAA Football 2002 to go along with this game? I like building the college players up, then drafting them to see how they do in the pros.
definite defense

whoa, Madden 2002 is the best football game ive ever played and i played many. Not just because of the unbelieveable graphics, but every movement is not like a computer movement. It actuall movements of the real NFL players from the way they catch the ball to the way the get tackled and fall. I was also impressed with the fact that the ball actually has to be caught with the recievers hands. Other past football game the ball can hit your helmet, your elbow, even your leg and that would be a catch. For me the defense is fustrating. its like the defense is glued to your every move. That gives me a better challenge. other fb games was easily dominated on the hardest level. I dont think this game can ever be dominated i see it to be just like real life you win some you lose some. If there was one thing that could make this better next year is adding more cheerleaders with big booties shaking at halftime
Not as groundbreaking as I'd hoped...

Madden 2002 is more of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy from the good folks at EA Sports. If you've played 2001, you'll feel right at home. Don't get me wrong, it is without a doubt the best football game out there, but I think a lot of us were expecting more from this game. The AI is marginally better, but the computer still has a knack for completing 5 passes in a row in triple coverage with no problem. Where this game really shines is the depth. I love franchise mode, where you can build a dynasty and have control over just about every aspect. You can even import a draft class from NCAA 2002 (great game)! The scary look in players' eyes is modified (thank God), but I wish the graphics were better. I've seen better graphics on the PC, and I'd have hoped the PS2 could match them. All in all, I definitely recommend Madden 2002, although if you're short on cash and have 2001, it may not be worth it.
Great Graphics and Options, SLOW AND BORING AS ROCKS

I have been a avid football game player since atari football. And this game simply bores me to death. Ill start with the positives. Best graphics ever in a game and decently realistic with tons of great options. Negatives now...The game is boring as watching rocks. If i wanted to watch a football game that is what I would do. ANd thats what this game pretty much is, you watching the computer play and pressing a button here and there. The gameplay is smooth but slow and horrible. Most of the time you are watching guys walk around or walk ever so slowly to the line of scrimmage, the pace of this game is the worst. WIth the great graphics and trying to make the game so called "realistic" the game totally [stinks] when it comes down to playing it. All the great graphics in the world and options do not make up for boring gameplay. And for a game based on being realistic, the defensive line and offensive line play is nuthing like real football, neither is the dbs. Charles Woodson who no team in the league even throws at gets burned by no names regulary, warren sapp will never penetrate a third string ol on a passing play. Unfortunately NFL GAMEDAY for psone is still the funest football game out, but it is simply outdated. I pray for a miracle and hope last years ps2 version of gameday was a fluke and they can make a decent game. I dont have much faith in qb club or nfl2k......I might be heading over to xbox if microsoft can come through with a game thats actually fun to play, and has the graphics and options in NFL FEVER!
