This game is too hard for kids. Its impossible for the kids to win and unlock any other games. Even some of the directions were difficult to understand.
I say rent this before you buy it.

When it comes to hype, Nintendo has really shown that this past year with the success of the Wii. nevertheless, back a decade ago, Sega also had those opportunites with being a definitive influence with the Genesis system, and some of their other consoles like the Dreamcast and Game Gear. Although they stopped making video game systems, they really kept gamers going for video games for other consoles like Playstation 2, and the Xbox. Now, the latest title finally decides which of the most beloved mascots is better, the beloved Mario or the fast and furious Sonic. This is the title for the Wii that could make gamers decide, young and old.
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games for the Nintendo Wii, finally puts 2 of the popular video game mascots head to head in a battle that takes place in the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympics. This game, you can play not just as Sonic or Mario, but characters like Luigi, Tails who is Sonic's sidekick, Bowser, Princess Toadstool a.k.a. Peach, Yoshi and many others in a battle for the quest for Olympic Gold. The game features twists on classic races like Track & Field, swimming, fencing, table tennis and the hammerthrow. The graphics look very well while the action doesn't really deliver for solo players, but multiplayer action fairs a little better. You can also use their special battle features like power ups and special tactics like Bowser's fire breath, and Sonic's speed to help you through the game as well, and the Wi-Fi gameplay adds a little bit more. Although the gameplay isn't as bad, it just doesn't click to die hard Wii fans who want more outrageous gameplay they would get from Mario Party 8 or mario Strikers Charged brought excitement.
All in all, many more gamers are much more anxious for Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Wii. Mario & Sonic At The Summer Olympics isn't a bad game, but just misses the mark in fun and excitement for die hard fans of both franchises. I really recommend you get this as a rental, and see if you like it as a addition to your Wii library.
Graphics: B
Sound: B
Control: B-
Fun & Enjoyment: C for solo players; C+ for multiplayer action
Overall: C 1/2+
Fun, but a little bit hard.

A kid wrote this review, so you'll have a better vision of what the game is like than somebody watching.
Let me start off by saying the game is great. (I think there is a new character, Blaze. Either that, or I've never seen her before.) In the game there is a main menu. You can choose between:
Single match: test your olympic skills and play a single match with up to 4 players. There are different categories when the game starts. Athletics,(Track:100m and 110m Hurdles. Field: Long Jump, Triple Jump, Hammer Throw, and Javelin Throw.) Gymnastics, (Trampoline.) Shooting, (Skeet.) Aquatics, (100m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle.) Fencing, (Individual epee.) And, last but not least, Table Tennis.(Singles.) NOTE: You can unlock different events by meeting certain achevements and completing circuits.
Circuit: There are preset courses where you put your olympic skills to the game. There are three difficulty modes: Beginner's, Advanced, and Master's. Each of these categories has different circuits made up of different events.(Like a Single match marathon.)EX:100m, 100m swimming, 110m Hurdles, Javelin, Hammer throw.
Mission: complete requirements given that vary for each character.
Gallery: Enter the gallery and you will see five segments. In each one, there are trivia questions and you can play games to get the awnser.
MARIO AND SONIC AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES REPORT CARD!!!
GRAPHICS-------------------A+
MUSIC----------------------A+++

OVERALL--------------------A+
The reason why I gave it a 4 star is because the games are a bit hard, and the ones that aren't hard are easy.
So I say: RENT THE GAME FIRST!!!!!!!!
Don't buy it for the Wi-Fi

First of all, let me point out that my son has been having fun playing the Wii Pokemon Battle Revolution with players from all over the country via the Wi-Fi Connection (WFC). Of this game, the Nintendo website states "Up to four players can compete for the gold through WFC" (see http://www.nintendowifi.com/gaminghub/MarioSonicOlympicWiiGamingHub.jsp) Unfortunately, that's not the case. The only Wi-Fi feature about this game is that you can upload your own high scores, and download high scores from the internet. So you are, in the most technical sense, "competing" with players from around the country to get the highest scores, but then, that's not exactly what I had in mind when I bought the game. I had hoped to play against my sister, who also has the game and lives across the country. Yet another good reason to RENT before you buy...then you can figure these things out ahead of time. I'll leave my review at that. There are plenty of others to tell you about the rest. I just thought someone should point this out.

This game is exciting and engaging, especially when you have friends and family over. There are many events that different individuals can master. And this makes the game engaging. Definitely worth for playing with 4 people.

Great Game!! Alot of fun. Keeps you active, not just sitting in the chair. Not good for someone that has problems with their hands or wrists.
Great work-out for your upper body.

Introduction:
If you read my other reviews, you'll know I'm actually a huge Sonic fan. I'm also a little bit of a Mario fan (although the characters there seem significantly stranger). So, being a fan of both, it makes sense to look forward to and get a hold of this game. I got it for Christmas, and I have to say, I'm nowhere near disappointed! You might want to know, however, that there is no option for left handed people; so it might be harder for those who are left handed. I played this game hard over the holidays, and I've unlocked a lot of cool stuff; so, here's the inside scoop.
Features:
Basically, this game came out in celebration of the Beijing (hopefully, I spelled that right) Olympics. It has at least most of the classic sports: track (many versions, including hurdles), swimming, table tennis, trampoline, high jump, long jump, triple jump, hammer throw, javelin, pole vault, single skulls (a rowing competition), springboard, fencing, skeet (a shooting competition. Don't worry, nothing alive; just clay discs), Archery (again, just targets), and even a sky diving competition (I'm not sure if that one is traditional)! You can play as sixteen characters (eight Sonic and eight Mario) classified into four groups as follows:
Power type: Knuckles, Bowser, Vector, and Wario.
All around type: Mario, Amy, Luigi, and Blaze.
Speed type: Sonic, Daisy, Shadow, and Yoshi.
Skill type: Peach, Tails, Waluigi, and Dr. Eggman.
This selection is only the in game characters, as you can also select a Mii you've created. A Mii's type isn't explained, but play as him/her a while to figure it out (I think mine is a speed type).
The Menu:
Single Match Mode: Play with one to four players in one event at a time. the specified fields are Athletics, Shooting, Gymnastics, Dream Events, Rowing, Aquatics, and Fencing. A couple of events need teams of four; if you are playing alone, you can choose how many you can control, or be COMs (Computer controlled). Please note that some events need to be unlocked; like the Dream Events. You can unlock events by getting gold medals, the easiest way being to find sports you're good at and win with all of the characters (that's sixteen medals per sport). The Dream Events are fun, and include: Dream Race, Dream Fencing, Dream Table Tennis, and Dream Platform (the skydiving one). You'll want to unlock these events, as Dream versions of Fencing and Table Tennis, is a lot more fun than the original versions.
Circuit Mode: Earn trophies by competing in three to six events in a row for overall first place. You have to win gold medals in Single Match Mode to unlock the circuits. I've only beaten the Beginner ciruits.
Mission Mode: Play various missions as the characters. These missions can be anything from placing in a certain place, beating a rival, or scoring a certain amount of points. I'm almost certain you earn something if you complete all of one character's missions (completed missions are shown with yellow stars); but I haven't been able to do this yet. Also, note that some missions require you to be in events you need to unlock in Single Match Mode.
Gallery: A great place to take a break from the major olympic games. Play the simple mini games: Voice Memory, Card games (like matching and memory), Whack a mole, Count Master, and Bound Ball. If you accomplish getting a certain score in these games, you'll learn very interesting things about the Olympics like: how to participate, who Beijings mascots are and what they stand for, Olympic history, and more! Did you know they didn't always give gold medals to the Olympic winners? How about that one person won track bare footed? Unlock all of the information in a section to get cool museum background music from the Sonic and Mario games. This is easily the most educational place in the game.
Collection Mode: View medals, trophies, emblems and world records. Good if you don't quite remember what you already won.
Options: Configure a couple of things. I don't remember what 'cause I hardly ever go there. For left handed people, I'm sorry to say you can't access a configuration for left handed control, even here. I'm right handed, so this isn't a problem for me; but I understand how it can be a problem.
Other interesting things: If you're a fan of Mario and/or Sonic, knowing these little details may make the game further appeal to you. Even if you're new to both, these things may still interest you.
1. Heavy Sonic fans will know that Sonic can't swim. So, in every event that deals with water (Swimming, Rowing, and even Dream Platform), he wears a life jacket. This is kind of funny and cute.
2. Although the sixteen characters I mentioned are the only Sonic/Mario characters that are playable, others make appearances. Espio, Charmy, Shy Guy, and Lakitu all take part in events like Javelin to calculate things like how far you threw. They also follow you around in events like swimming (look at the background on the pool's side). Cream the Rabbit also fires a starting gun in events like track.
3. The audience is interesting. One time, I took a glance behind a character who had already performed, and I noticed the only people watching what I do are Toads and Chao. For those not acquainted, Toads are characters from the Mario series; they're characterized by their mushroom-like hats and simple apparel. Chao are from the Sonic series; theyre the cute blue bubbly things, with the small yellow balls floating over their heads.
Conclusion: So there you have it; the inside scoop. Some other comments before I close: If you want a good workout, then participate in a lot of aquatics; it's exhausting. Don't play Voice Memory too much, unless you enjoy being annoyed. You're not going to pick up on every event right away, so just keep practicing. Always go for the gold!

This game is quite fun...makes u tired very easily. I think that is good in a way. ITs not a mind blowing work out....u basically jus moving ur wrist really fast etc. the controls are lame. Graphics are quite good.....for a wii game...Only problem is the Wi-Fi......i actually thought you could compete against other players worldwide............But all you can do is view the best times in the world......why should i care about times....i wanted to play with other friends and ppl i dont kno...They should have atleast had a thingy on the back saying this "game only uses the wi-fi connection to check scores" oh and the book thing inside is quite cheap..........its in black and white...boring.... and it is really thin....i know that realy dosent matter and all but still.Oh and the case is also quite cheap u know how all games have the the word "wii" melted into the top of the disc placer....this looks so ordinary.
Suggestions:
If u were lookin for wi fi try something like brawl or mario kart or mario strickers charged.
A lot of fun!

With all of the wii games that we've bought, we always end up going back to wii sports. This game is a great addition if you enjoy wii sports. This is a lot of fun!

I found this game disappointing. The controls are awkward. For example if you want to compete in a running race you have to move both the wii mote and nunchuk up and down really fast which isn't like running at all and after a while hurts your arms.
I think they are trying to replicate wii sports but the controls in this are way more complicated than wii sports which kind of detracts from the fun of the game.
Also, I would not say its a good one player game. You should play it at a party, but I'd reccomend mario party 8 before this game for a party.
Basically, rent this game if your having a party and save your money for mario galaxy or something.
