before I bought this game, i wasn't sure if it's a good idea to play an on rail shooter game. but It was great idea. this game is fun but not perfect. to do critical hits, maybe you need the zapper or reducing the sensitivity of the wii remote. I'm not sure yet but still I can make critical hits hardly. also you need to be fast shooter and collector because sometime you need to pick up something but you are busy killing. better to play with other person.

the most things I like in this game are the unlockable stories. example, you can play a character you met but you don't know how did he reach the same place you reached.

this game is worth to play. one of the best shooting game in Wii.

Really FUN game with some fear thrown in

This is a really fun game. I've never been a huge fan of any of the Resident Evil games (except for Resident Evil 4) and Umbrella Chronicles is a great way to learn the story in a new way. It takes the "meat" of each story line from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2, and 3. You can play as one of two different characters in just about every level, and when you play co-op each player can play as one of the two characters. You go through the game on "rails", meaning you don't control where you go--you are on a predesignated path. You can use your nunchuck to look around slightly, but not much. This game was made really well to fit into this style of game. As for the game play, it is a straight shoot 'em up game. You always have one gun with infinite ammo, and there are action commands to keep you on your toes. The only down fall of this game is the reloading procedure. You have to snap the wii-mote down and up again to reload your gun. Which isn't hard, but it does take your sights off your target, but this doesn't take away from the gaming experience. Overall its really fun, the enemies never seem to stop coming at you, and the level designs are made to give you surprises around every corner, giving you an intense game experience. If you don't like First Person Shooters (FPS), this may not be for you. If you do like FPS then I would recommend this game. But anyone can enjoy this game if they're a fan of the series or want a really fun game.

Enjoyable, but not worth the $$$

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is a god-send to those of who are Resident Evil fanatics. The incorporation of the light-gun with the Wii-mote is ingenious and quite fun. However, the controls may take a little time to adjust to (as will your arm, due to constant shaking of the Wii-mote to reload or to "Counter-attack").

The levels designs are quite nice as is the lighting. The scenarios include: Resident Evil: Zero w/ Billy Cohen and Rebecca Chambers; Resident Evil: GC Remake w/ Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield **SPOILER ALERT** Rebecca Chambers and Albert Wesker scenarios included as unlockables; Resident Evil 3: Nemesis w/ Jill Valentine and Carlos **SPOILER ALERT** Ada Wong and HUNK scenarios as unlockables; and "The End of Umbrella" scenarios w/ Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield **SPOILER ALERT** Albert Wesker scenarios as unlockables as well.

Several things that I hated about this game: (1) The unlockable scenarios for Ada Wong and HUNK are way too short; (2) There are no scenarios from Resident Evil 2 involving Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy; (3) No scenarios from Resident Evil 4 involving Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong/Luis Serra; (4) The game adds very little (and I mean VERY little) backstory of the Resident Evil series; and (5) There is very LIMITED movement control.

**SPOILER ALERT** The additional unlockable scenario is a nice but frustrating touch and is highly recommended to those with quick trigger-fingers.

Price-wise, this game is NOT worth SRP (Suggested Retail Price of $49.99). Wait until the price drops around the $30.00 to $40.00 range.

3.5; Get your ya-ya's out zombie style

Resident Evil 4 was kind of a strange trip in that gameplay-wise it was the funnest of the series but I find it the weakest in plot whereas the ones before it were the opposite. Umbrella Chronicles is basically the old ones combined with the action-oriented slant of 4 with rail shooting on top of it. But with Resident Evil 5 at best a good year away, Umbrella Chronicles is meant to satiate your Evil thirst for awhile and while it's probably not as amazing as the main canon games, this is probably the funnest of the offshoots.

Story: Basically a retelling of Resident Evil 0, the REmake and 3 which centers on Rebecca Chambers, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Billy Coen and Carlos Oliviera dealing with the horrors of zombies and other mutated creatures as they make their way through a train, a mansion and an overrun Raccoon City. We also see the mission Chris and Jill go on to rid the world of Umbrella as well as a few bonus missions.

Graphics: The graphics are an example of being "serviceable"; meaning they're kind of bland and not as sharply detailed as we'd want but they more than prove adequate at dealing with the enemies you'll face. The levels are recreated quite well and, although some things might be changed to make it more flowing (eg: you don't need keys to open doors anymore), the layout is quite spot-on and it was fun to see things where they should be.

Sound/Music: The music at times was rather forgettable and either I tuned it out or I was busy trying to stay alive that it just floated in the background but the music's alright, it's just not hummable or anything. And the voice acting should feel familiar to people: namely its badness from its bad dialogue to its questionable voice choices (Rebecca's higher pitched voice or Wesker's overly dramatic tone like on "TyyyyrraaaannnT!").

Gameplay: UC is basically an automated rails shooter where the nunchuk controls the direction your character is looking and the C changes your weaponry. On the Wii-mote, things are simple with B and A acting as your aiming and firing but at times I end up pressing the + button by accident but that's more controller design than anything. Pretty much the whole level can be shot up if a white crosshair shows up and it's either an enemy or in cases it's stuff to shoot so you can get a ranking (end of level rankings are based on time completed, stuff shot up, critical hits which are when you blow a zombie head off and how many files you found). They can also have things like ammo, grenades, the files or even reveal a new path.

As for difficulty, it's kind of all over the place even on Easy since, while hard to actually die on Easy, certain things get annoying, namely getting that critical hit since the weak point can be so tiny that you'll either blow the head clean off or they'll just act like you shot them in the face and die anyway. Not to mention zombie heads can act bulletproof at times and full-on gunshots still have them lumbering towards you. The big thing is the boss fights who suffer from that tendency to take the bullets a little too well and some bosses seem to go on forever simply because their health doesn't drop fast enough.

The surprising thing is how addicting it can be with the files taking up quite a bit of time since a certain level exists in each level (don't worry, any found gets carried over on retries so you don't have to find all of them again should you miss one), plus there's the rankings with the S class being the coveted spot and depending on your ranking, will net you stars which are used to upgrade your weapons for more firepower or greater ammo capacity. This is the kind of game you play with friends and have fun rather than the super serious stuff like the REmake where you shut off the lights and blast the sound.

It's short and it's quite repetitive but replaying a level to get a better score is why this game should at least get a playthrough.

Almost perfect!!!!

I've never played any other rail shooters before, although I knew what they were. I don't really have time to play great long campaigns anymore and as another reviewer has mentioned, I like a game with simple controls that I won't forget between plays. I don't play computer games anymore for these reasons. The wii is great and this game in particular for a FPS-junkie who wants a quick fix for 20 or 30 minutes at a time.

I've played RE0, RE1(remake) and RE4 and I read the prodcut description of Umbrella chronicles before I bought it so I klnew it was going to be nothing like the first two REs and only like RE4 at times when you had wave after wave of enemies to mow down. It is exactly what I imagined it was going to be, but even more fun!!!

I love this game. It's non-stop action in the familiarly creepy RE universe.

The graphics are great for the Wii and create the atmosphere well. The character models are a little wooden, but then it's a first-person view except for cutscenes.

The enemies are varied and suitably creepy. The one-shot kill feature is challenging but oh-so-satisfying. The weapons are balanced and the difficulty level is perfect for me. So far, I can usually get an A or B on a scenario first time through and an S after a couple of tries on "easy". The upgrade system gives the game a bit of RPG flavour and it's quite amazing just how many levels there are.

The Wii-mote/nunchuk combo gives a lot of control and except for the odd difficulty with the dodge commands, it pretty accurate.

Playing the whole campaign (I'd say I'm an average-skill player) is going to take about 20 hrs (I'm about halfway I'd guess), including some repeats to get levels up to A or S and to upgrade weapons, but I can play a mission in 20 minutes or so, come back a week later and not have to remember the controls.

If you like run and gun FPS games, don't mind not have to worry about moving, like to break stuff and enjoy the RE universe, then you'll have a great time with this game. I'll be playing it for years.

It's still fun, but wasn't quite what I was looking for

I thought a resident evil game would be a great use of the wii's controller. I was going to get resident evil 4, but decided to hold out when I heard they were coming out with a new one. The graphics are fine and it's still a fun game, but what I didn't like is that you don't control the character's movements. Instead, you only control where to shoot. It's particularly annoying when you miss picking up items that scroll by the screen in a second or two and when you know that corpse you just saw on your left is about to get up and attack you (and you can't do anything about it because you're looking the wrong way).

The End of Umbrella

So here it is, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, the latest installment to rhe Resident Evil series. For die hard fans and new players to the series, this is a great addition to your Wii shelf. The story line lets you re-visit events of Resident Evil 0, 1, 2, and 3 plus never witnessed events and a new situtation the shows the end of the Evil Umbrella Corperation. Overall the games makes, good you use of the Wii remote, one of the best FPS for the Wii; however games might not like the rail system not allowing you to freely walk around. Also the game is very fast paced and action oriented compared to other Resident Evil installments, possibly too fast; many of the missions clocking in under 15 minutes. Nevertheless a great game, especially for Wii owners looking for a more adult oriented game. With the few "flaws" that might make it or break it for some gamers, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is worth checking out if you are an older Wii owner.

Best for diehard RE fans only

So by now, everyone should know that this is a rail shooter, making it far less involved than other RE games. Rail shooters can still be fun, but this one just isn't. When you shoot a bad guy in the right spot in RE 4, they explode into a gory burst. When you shoot zombies in UC, they[...] their head to the side. Seriously... that's all that really happens and it's not nearly as entertaining. Most zombies and creatures take far too many shots to kill, and I've found the aim to be rather inaccurate at times, which never happened on RE 4. There is a one-shot sweet spot somewhere on the zombies foreheads, but it must be a single pixel because you're only gonna hit it when luck is on your side. Personally, I don't like when my most successful shots are due to luck. The graphics are great, and there's tons of nostalgia for long time fans of the series; unfortunately, that's all this game has going for it. The music and most of the sound does very little for me. Rebecca sounds like a small child and it's absolutely absurd. If something more happened when you shoot zombies and creatures, I'd give this game a much higher rating. Instead, the "violence" is unforgivably tame. It quickly becomes overly repetitive, and your efforts are never well rewarded. Some things must be shot innumerable times, which gets really boring since the bullets don't have much of a visible effect on what you shoot. Your selection of weapons is pretty limited each round (regardless of how many you've unlocked), and none of the weapons are really that cool anyway. Fans of RE 4 looking for their next fix aren't going to find it yet, especially not here. This game barely even wanders out of the kiddy pool at times. It's shallow and seems to be heavily toned down so Nintendo wont have to deal with public relation issues. Things like this make me worry that RE 4 will be the only Nintendo game of its caliber.

Great for 2 players

Good for older kids and adults. A lot of gross stuff and blood! Seems hard without 2 players. Also the characters are very whiny for being zombie killers!

Fun Rail Shooter

This is one of the few Resident Evil games I've been interested in playing that expand on the RE universe. I just got my Wii and was looking for something that might show what it could do. I'm an FPS and 3rd person shooter nut and have always enjoyed the RE games (2,3, and 4). So far this hasn't disappointed. The graphics look pretty good (for the Wii) and the game play is satisfying. It's basically House of the Dead on steroids. I don't mind that it's a rail shooter, but the use of the nunchuck is pretty pointless. It's supposed to allow you to look around, but the angle of view it gives you isn't much. That being said, the remote allows for some pretty accurate aiming. It's a fairly easy game, but the fact that you're constantly "rolling" through the levels keeps you on your toes. The zombies look good and the array of weapons are what you'd normally see in a RE game. It's not quite the caliber of RE 4, but if you just want a fun shooter you've come to the right place.
