Good game. I definitely would say to rent it. Buy it if you have the money laying around.

Worth a look

I've been playing the resident evil series for quite a while. while his game is definitely not one of the best in the series, it does provide passive entertainment for people who want to make use of the wii's basic shooter capabilities. the enemies can get pretty redundant, there are no camera controls at all, basically what you have here is an arcade-type shooter game, the type that you come across at the movie theater lobby while waiting for your movie to start. that doesnt mean it cant provide your basic shooter game entertainment. it's certainly no call of duty 4, but if youre just a resident evil fan or need a somewhat close to non-thinking shooter game this is it.

Very Well Done

This is by far one of the best Wii games available right now. The story arc covers all the major Resident Evil games excluding number four. Shooting breakable items to find items and unlockables makes for some good replay value and keeps the levels a bit more interesting. The graphics look very nice for a Wii game and the atmosphere stays true to the RE series with some "shock" moments and big boss battles. A good variety of enemies to keep you guessing a bit and nicely implemented story keep the game pretty fresh all the way through. Two player co-op could have used bit more work. The game is EXACTLY the same while playing in two player mode making it quite easy with two players but a little too tough at some points with only one player. I found myself grabbing the wife from time to time during my single player romp just to help me past a difficult area. Overall a MUST HAVE for Wii owners and RE fans alike.

Great survival horror game!

I bought this game back in December. I recieved it right after Christmas. I love this game, especially since I am a fan of the Resident Evil series. If you like zombies, shooting, or arcade-style games, GET THIS!

Also, I got this game on sale for $35 back in December so I got a good deal on it. :-)

Pretty good.

Starting off, I'd like to note that I caught my copy when the price was at 30$ for a short time. Within that price range, I think this game is a great buy. Other than that, I believe it comes down to whether you're into on-rail shooters.
(Note: On rail shooters are shooting games where you cannot control where your character moves, but some aspects of the game allow you to choose different paths and ways of doing things. In this particular shooter, you can control camera movement to about 30 degrees in every direction.
Pros:
-A nice overview/outline of the Resident Evil plot and characters.
-Usable with the Wii Zapper (I personally use it, and it works great.)
-Classic arcade feel.
-Interesting bosses and stages.
-Unlockable content and hidden notes throughout every stage.
-Two player mode.

Cons:
-Monsters can become very repetitive after a while. This can cause the game to become predictable at points, lightening some of the horror points it has going for it.
-Weapons and Weapon upgrade system is a bit simple. It works fine, but it could've been dealt with a bit more depth.
-Main story is a tad short.

All this being said, this game really is fun if you don't mind on-rail shooters. There are still elements of freedom in paths you take and hidden rooms, and the gameplay is quick and engaging, even though it is a bit repetitive at times.
With a 50$ price tag, I'd recommend this game to Resident Evil fans and people who don't mind on-rail shooters. At a 30$ price tag, I'd recommend buying it anyway, but if you don't like on-rail shooters, you should probably just stay away.

An interesting experience

Reaction time is a big part of the game

I have played RE4 and this game. If you have to choose just one, go with RE4. Umbrella Chronicles is still enjoyable, though. There are reaction time challenges where you have to push the right button(s) or wave the remote in response to some threat. But as a rail shooter, in a way everything is reaction-time oriented. You have to destroy this object or pick up that object and do it now because the rail keeps you moving along, and often times you barely catch sight of the object out of the corner of your eye.

Some hints: when swarmed the front zombie is the delegated attacker; while he is approaching most of the other zombies just stand there staring vacantly. It is way easier to get critical shots on these background zombies than it is on the forward moving zombie. A particularly nice move is to use the handgun to pick off the background zombies and use the shotgun to knock down the forward zombie when it gets too close. Another nice move is when the forward zombie attacks, swing at it with the knife which repels it back. Then you can either knock it down with a shotgun or get a critical shot on it if it is knocked back far enough.

Another hint: It is frequently the case that when you are being swarmed, there is something useful hidden in the nearby environment. Don't let the swarm keep you from looking around.

A final hint: You get scored on the number of enemy hits. Anytime the cross-hairs turn white, you are aiming at a viable enemy. Shoot them, even if they're just lying motionless on the ground. These hits still count towards your score. In fact, it turns out that the cross-hairs will turn white when you aim at a fallen comrade. He is a soon-to-be zombie, even if he never gets up during the game. Also when you are swarmed by insects, each insect counts as an enemy, so taking out a lot of these drives your score up immensely. For instance, I've used a rocket on swarms of bees and gotten top scores for enemy hits (for some reason, if you take out a group with a grenade, that doesn't do anything to your enemy hits -- it has to be something you've shot at the enemy).

Supposedly you unlock infinite ammo on all weapons if you get an "S" (highest score) on every scenario. I've done this on 3 out of 4 of the major scenarios, but now that I'm on the final one, I'm running out of steam. They just made this feature too hard to unlock. I really like the idea of having an infinite number of magnum rounds or rockets, but it basically takes too long to do it.

There is an arcade game that is unlocked after you've played through the Umbrella Chronicles storyline, but it's not really all that fun. The mercenaries game that is unlocked after completing RE4 is way more fun.

I've tried the wii zapper and don't recommend it because you still have to have the numchuck outside of the zapper, and that makes the wii zapper feel unbalanced, and tires your arm out.

Low quality game, doesn't belong on the Wii

This game belongs on an old, grimy 80s arcade machine in an abandoned bowling alley, not on the Wii.

I was expecting a game where you could actually move around, control what you are doing, and play a game. Instead what you have is a button to fire a gun while the screen slowly moves through various darkened scenes. You cannot move your character around, the screen just moves from one zombie to another as you push the button to shoot the gun.. . and that is the entire videogame.

Besides not being able to do anything, you'll notice the graphics are terrible. You can watch as the 'curtains' move off to the side. They are flat objects that bend in a spot, with big pixelated textures. What a complete joke of a game. This game wouldn't be worth the price if it was $20. It certainly is not worth $50. This is a throwback 20 years in game quality.

Great Game.... Could use alittle refinement

Keep in mind that this is not a typically resident evil game, it is more like house of the dead. To many complain that it is not like the other resident evil games, but it is not suppose to be this game is an arcade shooter.

Overall rating 7-7.5

Gameplay - 8/10. very innovative. The game moves you around through the levels but you still have the control to pan the screen left, right, up and down to get a better shot or find hidden first aid sprays or guns. Handgun unlimited ammo, find reloads for shotgun and machine gun and other weapons all around. You can blow up things up in the background like windows and lights.

Graphics - 7/10. Definitely does not have as good of graphics as resident evil games usually have, still good but needs some refinement. It is not as realistic when you shoot zombies they still lose their heads but basically no matter where you shoot them they are still stunned the same way.
On the over hand, it pretty realistic how you can shoot out windows, shoot down paintings on the wall, you can break lights and it will get darker.

Story - 7/10. Not as interesting as stories in the past, but still interesting and fun to listen to. It is also pretty cool to relive somethings from old resident evil games.

Replay-ability - 7/10. First off, Each part of the game is broken down into a scene. You can reenter old scenes that you have already played. They rank you for each scene based on hits, critical hits, objects in background broken, time it took to complete. It makes it interesting to go back and replay missions to beat your last score.
Second, this is 2 player game!!!!! Go Coop with a friend through missions, they can also come and go at any point. In other words, you can beat half the game 1 player then a second player can join half way through if they want.
However, this game is lacking in amount of play time, even a casual gamer will probably finish the game in a few days. (around 5 hours gameplay)

Verdict - No doubt that one would enjoy renting this game, but is it enough for a purchase? Probably not worth the full sticker price of $50, would make a great buy if on sale.
