Awful Game, Boring, Complete Waste of Money

After getting a Wii, the next step was to pick up a few games, one of which was Resident Evil. It just came out, it's $50 bucks, it's on the Wii, must be pretty good, right? Dead wrong. This game is terrible, don't rent it and definitely don't buy it - but if you really want it I'll sell you mine.

The graphics are decent but there is NOTHING to the game. You can't control your character, monsters just pop up on the screen and you shoot them. That was great in the days of Atari and Coleco Vision when you were the talk of the neighborhood just because you had a game system other than Pong. It doesn't take advantage of the Wii system in any way. In addition to shooting monster you can shake the Wii controler to fend off attacks but there is really no strategy, no interaction, it just sucks. If you must try it, rent it somewhere but it's not worth your hard earned cash to buy it.

Not What I Would Expect From A Resident Evil Game!

How do I put this...I am a HUGE resident evil fan. Minus the dumb movies they totally screw up with their own themes I really think almost all the games are just awesome I have 0-4 on gamecube and plus the others. This has to be by far the worse one of all. As I was playing I was wondering if many of you thought the same and you did!! It was just like playing house of the dead when things just pop at you and all you do is shoot. I was impressed with the graphics but thats just about it. The voice acting? I laugh my booty off. Here I am fighting off gorillas and your asking me how did I escape from prison??...LOL. Conversation start in the strangest times. I am more intrested in fighting zombies then telling you how I escaped jail..LOL In any case I brought the game and got half way and sold it on e-bay for 30.00. I brought it for 49.00. I admit at times you were at the edge of your seat but to me this was more of a rental then a own. Like one review said I would rather go to an arcade and put a quater in then pay 50.00 dollars for it. Sorry...this RE just doesn't do it for me. I will be renting this it's just not enough for me to own it.

Its NOT Resident Evil 4

So I was completely addicted to Resident Evil 4 and then I beat it. I enjoyed every blood gushing minute of it. So I figured I would get Umbrella Chronicles after I finished with RE4. What a disappointment! The controls are tough to use (compared to RE4 anyway) and you can't control where you're moving....the game is controlling you instead. I'm just not a big fan. Since you have limited movement, you have limited opportunities to pick up herbs and ammo. If you walk past it and possibly miss it, you can't turn around to go get it. In my opinion, compared to RE4, this game pretty much sucks. Maybe some gamers like the format but not this one. I can't wait until RE5 comes out.

Disappointment.....why a rail shooter?

I loved RE 4...I don't understand what was gained by making it a rail shooter. All the finesse and strategy is striped from the game. All you have is the most mindless of shooters.......I thought we moved away from this way back in the day DOOM anyone?

It was just dissapointing...

I would be lying if I said that I was a RE fan, my first game was RE 4. I loved RE 4, was fascinated by it and understood why RE was so successful. Umbrella Chronicles was a MAJOR disappointment. The fact that I don't control the character is annoying; I save that when I go to the arcades and play House of the Dead, which is fun but it's an arcade game. I paid 50 dollars + tax to play a game that would make me think. This game is so mindless that I feel my brain cells dying. It was just a waste of my time. Since I first started that game I just didn't like it.I gave it a chance and lost hours of my lifetime that I'll never get back. Don't buy this game. I would only suggest it if you have absolutely nothing to do, and when I say nothing I mean NOTHING.

Good, not great. A welcome addition for series completionists

A lot of people have, so far, been complaining that this game was not what they expected. They bought it without reading reviews and were disappointed to find the gameplay was an on-rails arcade-style shooter. For those of us paying attention, this came as no surprise. The game retails between $35-$40 at the time of this review so I'm unsure why everyone keeps saying it's not worth $50.
As for the game, I enjoyed it overall. I agree with some reviewers when they claim the action gets repetitive. You will be walking through a lot of dark halls, shooting a lot of monsters, lights, and objects. But that's about it. The game is good in short bursts. I wouldn't recommend any all-nighters as the game might feel a little stale or boring after awhile. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. Most would argue that a game should suck you in and keep you hooked until you finally beat it. But it doesn't seem like that was Capcom's design here. The game is divided into chapters and within those chapters are vital checkpoints. These points allow you to continue at your leisure. This, to me, seems like Capcom's way of accommodating the so-called "casual gamer" crowd.
However, casual gamers beware, this game can get tough at times.
I applaud the developer's efforts in creating a sufficiently creepy environment. The boss battles are worthy of note as some of them get pretty tough. I enjoyed all of the boss battles.
While the graphics aren't HD, I never found myself feeling as though the graphics were so bad they detracted from the fun I was having. But previous reviewers are correct in saying the graphics could have used an additional layer of polish. I must stress to all prospective buyers- DO NOT play this game with the Wii Zapper. I have played through the game with the traditional Remote+Nunchuck configuration and on my second play-through gave the Zapper a try. It hindered the experience, particularly with knife-swiping. Normally, to swipe your knife at enemies you make a slicing motion with the Wii Remote. However, with the Wii Zapper, the Wii Remote is locked into the peripheral so when it comes time to swipe at some leeches, birds, bats, or bugs your only option is to flail the entire Wii Zapper peripheral around which is very unintuitive and awkward.
Overall, this game was a bit of a mixed bag. As a die-hard fan of the RE series I knew this game was a must but for someone unfamiliar with the series I can't find myself recommending it. If you played through any of the original games and want to relive that experience through a different perspective then by all means, get this game. Be prepared for a different type of game. It's fun and I definitely found myself getting wrapped up in the action (especially during some of the trickier boss battles). All this action coupled with some long-awaited information about the fall of Umbrella make this a must-have for long-time fans of the series.

Not what I expected

I bought this game because I was looking for a game my boyfriend and I could play co-op, and I was really disappointed by it. We both love the other RE games and I figured this one would be similar to the rest. I was WRONG. While it did allow us to play co-op, the game also moves you along on its own. You follow a set path and shoot, but you have little control over the speed of movement or the direction your characters will go. It makes it difficult to pick up items on the way, and there were several times when I'd be stuck in one direction while a zombie was chewing on my shoulder behind me - I'd have to wait for the game to turn me around before I could shoot the bugger. To me, having control over my characters' movements is a big plus. I am going to give this game another try after I get a zapper, hoping that the game will get at least a little better as we continue through.

Just another rail shooter with poor controls

I've played this with and without the wii zapper and was disappointed. It plays like House of the Dead or any other rail shooter, but with really crappy accuracy and poor responsiveness to controls.

Head shots just don't seem to work. The aiming reticule doesn't line up with the way the zapper feels like it should. You basically have to aim lower than it feels like you should. Squeezing the zapper trigger in a rapid fire fashion does not work. The trigger only trips every second or third time when you squeeze it quickly. Even if you use the wiimote without the zapper, shots just don't seem to connect.

The voice acting is a crime against humanity. The only redeeming value of this game is the graphics. That's the only reason I gave this two stars instead of one.

Bottom line, if you really want a good zombie shooter, just wait for Left for Dead on the 360 and you might be happy. But RE Umbrella Chronicles just isn't worth the $50 dollar price tag. At all.

decent game

I enjoyed playing the game a little hard to aim with the nun chucks but I know it will be better when the gun I ordered comes in.
