You only need ONE yersion of this game, as all 4 games share the same 20 breeds. you start of with 6 breeds, and as you progress in the game, you unlock another 12 breeds, 2 additional breeds are only available when you find the firemans hat (Dalmation) and Jack Russell book (Jack Russell) while out on walks with your dogs. so don't be fooled into buying more than one version, unless it is for other siblings, so you know whose version is whose. It has taken me just under 2 months just about fully unlock my game. I have all 20 breeds, all the rooms and, most of everything else, I just might have the odd record to unlock.
The only noticable difference is that some of the toy/sports, like the rubber bone might be available in different colours on different versions, but if a friend has it they can swap on bark mode.
The walks and the constant brushing can get a bit tedious at times though.
I'm an adult with 3 kids. and 2 of my sons have this game as well, so we have 3 versions. But I still love playing this game
Awesome Game!

I'm 8 and I love this game!I got this a while back.I think this game is WONDERFUL!! If you have it and you haven't played it in a while and you play it and get a new dog .. You can forget how to train dogs. I think the game is pretty real. Although if you have a dirty dog and take it for a walk, Game people will insult you. If you want to get more RARE stuff, keep walking you're dog! It will also be able to go farther. I think purr pals it cool too. Much like nintendogs. It's hard to brush in time, and the game( Purr pals) have songs. They go .. Meow Meow Meow. In a certain tune. It gets on my nerves so I get mad and go faster and faster. Anyway Nintendogs is a great game. Some people aren't allowed to get pets. ( Allergies ) Like I said this is real enough to be you're own pet! And if you're voice changes alot then it's not worth having a dog. It needs to hear your voice! And remember it. Because you need to talk in the mic, IN THE SAME VOICE! It makes the game hard at that point. Well it's a great game! I hope this helps.
I LOVE Nintendogs

I've had Nintendogs for about... almost a year, maybe. At first, I was totally confused until a friend helped me out. Thats when magic formed. I now have six dogs. Laborador Retreiver named Katrina, Shiba Inu named Jodi, Golden Retreiver named Lilly, Dalmation named Susie, Shih Tzu named Cookie, and some other dog I forgot the name of. Nintendogs is fun for any age, because even my mom finds it amazing and fun that virtual puppies can interact and play with you. I truely love this game, and it almost hurts to put it down.
What a great game!

I love these games... I've never actually played them myself, but I love them anyway, lol. My 6 yr old daughter and 11 yr old boy both love them... which is great. A game you can give an 11 yr old boy that he gets excited about but it doesn't have any sort of awful violence or sexual images. I couldn't be happier with the 2 I have purchased.

I've owned and played a number of DS games yet have become bored with them within several hours...NOT THE CASE WITH NINTENDOGS!!! I bought the Lab+Friends with some money I got from my parents for Christmas as my roommate owns one of the other versions,so I wanted one of them for myself since her's looked like loads of fun...especially being the dog lover that I truly am,that is.
True, you do start out with choosing between one of the breeds mentioned on the front of the case/box in which may start out as "bare bones"(Pardon the pun.)yet
it's equally true that you eventually do unlock the remainders of the breeds that are not yours to own/buy just yet.
A few buyers failed to mention the "personality" part of the puppies. Every single puppy has it's personality traits that you might want to read at the bottom of the view of the puppy you are looking at for a possibility...IF YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED NOR ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH NINTENDOGS,THEN BEWARE OF PICKING ONE WITH SUCH NEGATIVE PERSONALITIES WHICH WILL CONFUSE YOU LET ALONE FRUSTRATE YOU!!! May I suggest looking at the particular puppy breed you desire yet if you don't like the coat colors available, gender availability, etc. then I might reccommend you to select "quit" on the
puppy(breed?)by tapping on the "back" arrow,is it? Anyways, you can always continue to do this procedure that may very well take some time, but it's rewarding if you happen to find what you're exactly looking for...keep in mind, there are only 3 coat color patterns per breed. To some, the puny amount of breeds that the Nintendogs series is only so few yet it's not a problem for me since I love most of them!!
I love Nintendogs as to I can never put it down!! I currently own: female chocolate lab("Tootsie"),
female miniature pinscher("Cynthia"),and a female
German Shepherd Dog("Skipper")...yes,I was successfully able to unlock the pug and the German Shepherd Dog thus far. On the subject to "Unlocking Breeds" that one or more of the buyers previously mentioned,I disagree on racking up points or finding particular items to unlock all the breeds...I did the "bark mode" with my roommate's Dalmatian+Friends as to she introduced me to her Dalmatian and I introduced her to my pinscher so she was able to unlock the pinscher breed as likewise,I was able to successfully unlock the Dalmatian breed without finding the Fireman's Hat...no questions asked!! Believe me,it works!! It will only work on if you and a friend each have a different breed as to each of you desire a breed that one or the other has unlocked/has available already!!
I have had this game for about a week now and here's my proud accomplishments...oh yeah,FYI you can only compete in Agility once you visit and practice at the gymnasium located on the very right of the map screen slightly towards the bottom.
Cynthia(Female Miniature Pinscher)--
Disk: Championship;lost a few times...never won. v_v
Agility: Championship;won 5 consecutive times!!! ^_^
Obedience: Expert Cup;have yet to compete in Expert Cup.
Tootsie(Female Chocolate Lab)--
Disk: Master Class;lost once. v_v
Agility: Championship;won once!! ^_^
Obedience: Open Cup(She is stupid, but not all labs are!!)
Skipper(Female German Shepherd Dog)--
Disk: Master Class;I only owned her for 2 days!! ^_^
Agility: Expert Cup;Shepherds are great for agility!! ^_^
Obedience: Open Cup;have yet to compete in Open Cup.
One last thing...I have owned male puppies, but have had no luck with them whatsoever. T_T Perhaps some of you buyers have had better luck than me with male pups?
Oh well, this game gets a five star rating for fun,
originality(It was the DS' FIRST Virtual Puppy game!!)as
well as I give Nintendogs a HUGE high-five for the AWESOME graphics on the puppies. OR should I say,I give Nintendogs a HUGE "high-paw"...ha,ha,ha,ha!!!
(If you look at the puppies up close, you'll DEFINATELY know what I mean...)
Good Luck,Buyers+Nintendogs Trainers!!!

My son got a chocolate lab for Christmas and loves this game. I agree with others about the "training for the dog", repeating pet's name 100 times, but once it is trained, it plays well.
I love puppies!

I can't believe some punkass kids is trashing the game just because they have psp and are jealous. First of all, there WILL NOT be a psp version!! Come on, people all now this, it is called Nintendogs, not Playstation dogs. Nintendo don't share games. Anyway the review is for the game not the handheld: I love dogs, and I cannot have one at the moment, so this is the next best thing. It is not boring at all, I was playing this so much since I got it and it is so much fun. I mean who can say no to those adorable puppies?? you can walk them many times, feed them, train them, enter in competitions, endless things to do and it will never get boring. If you don't have a heart made of stone, you would love the puppies. They are so real and you would definitely bond with them very fast. I got the nintendo DS for the sole purpose of this game and I am glad I did. My puppy owning dream has come true for now! Buy it, you won't regret it.
