GREAT YOU HAVE TO GET THIS

This was the first game i played that I got for christmas, and it's awesome. The buttons and moves aren't hard like the playstation 1 games. it's easy stuff. The graphics are terrific, and they really have cool "ultimate" power moves. There's the game story in a graphic movie that you can watch as you go along. Alternate endings is if magneto vs bastion lost jean vs bastion and dark phoenix vs. bastion. There is a big cast as well. Storm, Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean, Psylocke and Betsy, Gambit, Rogue, Dark Phoenix, Bishop, Forge, Beast, Nightcrawler, Magneto, Bastion, Toad, Prime Sentinels, Female Prime Sentinels, Juggernaut, Blob, Sabertooth, mystique etc. Next game please add Polaris especially in the red and gold costume, and add Jubilee in the trench and original x-uniform. Why wasn't Iceman in this one, he's the coolest to use on the arcade games. maybe add marrow she's awesome on arcade. Synch and Husk would be cool to, visually at least.

Could have been a Classic

In terms of accuracy, atmosphere and character representation, 'X-Men: Next Dimension' on the PS 2 is an absolute winner. In terms of gameplay, however, it suffers from one or two major flaws that keep the game from becoming an instant classic.

There are so many wonderful characters here, it's almost impossible to know where to begin. There are several different versions of Jean Grey, Wolverine and Psylocke, as well as the favourites - Cyclops, Beast, Magneto, Storm etc. - and a number of less-well known, but beautifully realised secondary characters from the comic books, like Forge, Juggernaut, Havok and Nightcrawler. Each character is visually faithful to their Marvel counterpart, and the voice-acting is, happily, top-notch.

The backgrounds, too, are lush and complicaed, with miltiple levels and different areas in each stage adding hugely to the gameplay. The music is a little muffled, but who cares?

Graphically, there are one or two small flaws. The characters were never going to be as smooth or as detailed as those from the big-league fighters, like Tekken and Soul Calibur. They're still good, though - nice and big with colourful costumes and fluid movements. Polygon pop-up is a small flaw, too - it's there, but it's not bad. The effects are beautiful - in particular, when a character executes an overdrive move - and the game moves at an excellent speed.

The main problem with Next Dimension is the horrific difficulty level. It is a game meant specificfally for 2-player mode, and both of those players need to be X-Men fans in order to fully appreciate the depth and scope of the game. In 1-player mode, anything past 2 stars of difficulty is nigh-on impossible and since you unlock the myriad special features by completing the game, it might put some less-enthusiastic players off.

That said, 'X-Men Next Dimension' is still a solid, enjoyable fighter, and if you're a fan, you'll adore it.

Whatever

this game is really good except for the xtremely long loading time between matches. there was enough time for me to get a few sodas and come back and i didn't miss a thing.

Best X-Men game so far

X-Men: Next Dimension is a great fighting game. I have all three X-Men fighting games (Mutant Academy 1&2) and the other two don't compare to the realistic playing fields and mobility that this game offers. Each "arena" contains three different areas you can smack your opponent into, which is a huge improvement over the Mortal Kombat-like backdrops of the previous two since it adds to mobility and enjoyment.
The story mode is a great addition for those who needs a little substance to their games other than just beating each other up. It also acts as a continuation of a recent story-line in the comics, which is also pretty cool.
The variety and amount of characters is really great, especially for X-Men fans. And part of the fun is going through your favorite characters and figuring out which one plays best for you. A great feature is the ability to quickly glance at directions for moves during a fight. This is much easier than Mutant Academy's memory-reliant training programs.
The graphics are excellent, but not 100% perfect. Sometimes during a fight, a piece of scenery can get in the way of your view, which is a little annoying if you're getting your butt kicked. But it's a minor flaw compared to all the improvements this game provides over the Mutant Academy games.
All this and the difficulty of both story and survival modes make the replay value very high and X-Men: Next Dimension one of the best fighting games I've seen. Mostly, though, the enjoyment of the game depends on your interest in the X-Men.

Sup everyone,
I just got this game a while ago from a good friend of mine, i have always been an X-men fan! This game gets 2 thumbs up from me. I have played other X-men games but this I think is the best. The graphics arnt amazing but they get a 95%to me. The charactors attacks are really cool, most of them are hard to do and it gets a little frustrating but its not impossible, i really havnt gotten to far on the game but i try to use all the charactors to get a feel for it. The training part of the game isnt that fun and it takes a long time to learn the charactors main and most powerful attaks. Like rouge, it took me foever to learn how to obsorb life and alot of stroms attacks are difficult to. But other than about 2 or 3 flaws the game has i think its a great buy.

I am rating this game solely by how much fun it is. My review is NOT based on whether I can beat the computer or not.

The graphics is a about 8/10. But I am not a big sucker for great state of the art graphics. The presentation of the game is excellent, each character has very unique and cool moves, esp the specials. Finally, we have 3d xmen fighting game that brings the characters to life. And I love PAtrick Stewart's voice as Professor X. I am definitely not disappointed, and very pleased that Activision continues to improve on his video game adaptation of the X-men comic book. Get this title!!

Had potential, but...

The short version: each level takes too long to load, the game is buggy, and the response of the characters is very slow. Not worth it unless you're a die-hard X-Men fan.

Don't waste your time!

Don't buy it! Now, don't get me wrong . . . there is much to like about this game. the background is great, the characters are fabulous, and the control is not actually t makes this game absolutely terrible is the AI. As you progress through the story mode or arcade mode, you'll come up on random characters that you just cannont beat (sentinel A and havok come to mind). the computer is mind-boggingly cheap, throwing out combos and blocking everything, even on easy. Rent the game, get the "unlock everything" code, watch the movies, and take it back.

one of the coolest battle games, great for Xmen fans

This game rocks, great musical score, sound effects, voice work, all top notch. Whats probably the coolest is wherever you fight you can always knock people off of cliffs or out of windows or off of unfinished skyscrapers straight into a glass billboard attached to a building before falling onto a taxi. It's an environment involved video game. Tons of the X-characters from the comic books are in this one, with unexpected X-people like Lady Deathstrike, Forge, Havok, Bishop, Blob, Dark phoenix, Bastion, Toad, and Mystique. I only wish that Apocalypse, Cable, Mr. Sinister and Deadpool were in this one, it would have made it the perfect X-men game in my opinion. At least they added some of the best like the obvious choices Wolverine, Juggernaut and Sabretooth. Buy this if you are a big fan of Tekken, Virtua fighter and Street fighter, but don't expect blood or detached body parts like in Mortal kombat. I had to give it 4 stars though because of how difficult the computer is to fight in the story and survival mode.
