X-Men Lengends 2: Rise of the Apocolipse

In my opinion this is one of the best games out to find today. In the last game you have to stop the evil Magneto from destroying the wolrd (what else is new?). Well now you must team up to defeat Mr.Apocolipse(a.k.a Apocolipse) from well starting up an apocolipse. In this game the X-men must team up with the Brotherhood to defeat the ultimate evil. When you are going through the game there will be boss fights with Sauron, Mr.Sinsister, Sugarman, Deadpool, and more. In the first level in the game YOU start out with Wolverine. The X-men and the Brotherhood are "mutants" so the get super powers. Wolverine's is the ability to heal himself (Healing Factor) and he has retactiable claws made of a substance called adamante. In the previous game you could only be the X-men and you must defeat the Brotherhood. You now have about 7 new moves that you could never do in the first X-men Legends. There are 16 playable characters in this game including Magneto, Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Scarlet Whitch, Juggernaut, Sunfire, Collosus, and more. In the game you can customize your team and now you can even chose what outfit your team wears (in the first one you had to beat thegame and you can only chose 1 or 2 costumes). You can pick for X-men or Brotherhood characters and then fight through the open level area field. You can even customize what moves you want to get good. All the mutants have specail abiltys that only they can use (like Magneto can fly) and you can make one move the most powerful move you have. Another new feature is all the characters have a move that helps out there teamates. Well this game is the best. To enhasing its color and graphics (oh yeah did I metion that?) to making the gameplay better than ever this game is a "legendary" choice.

A Great Sequel to an Even Greater Original

Hi, I picked this game up for my 15 year old son who is the biggest X-men freak on the face of the earth and he is obsessed with it. He asked me to type this review in for him since he had school so here you go:
X-men Legends II is a great sequel to a wonderful original game. While the number of characters in the game doesnt increase that much (from 14 to 18) the choices were pretty good. The story follows the combination of the X-men and Brotherhood teams to stop Apocalypse who has not only taken out Magneto's nation of Genosha, but has captured the X-man Polaris and Magneto's son Quicksilver. From the X-men come Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Iceman, Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Bishop, and Sunfire and from the Brotherhood, Magneto, Toad, Scarlet Witch, and Juggernaut. Along the way Professor X, Deadpool, and the Golden Avenger Iron Man will join your squad. The bosses in this game revolve around those who had starring roles in the Age of Apocalypse epic but with some marvel favorites including, Sauron, Archangel, Abyss, Grizzly, Holocaust, Mikhail Rasputin, Mr. Sinister and of coures Big A. While the cast of playables is great what will really make marvel fans smile is the cast of Non Playable Characters including Emma Frost, Blob, Pyro, Shadowcat, Banshee, Blink, Sabertooth, Mystique, Angle, Beast, Forge, Destiny, Sebastian Shaw, Selene, and Guardian and Vindicator of Alpha Flight.
Gameplay is a major aspcet of this game (duh). You will have four X-men/Brotherhood members on a team at a time, and you will also be able to receive bonus based on who you choose (eg "Forces of Nature" - Sunfire, Iceman, Storm and Magneto +10% to all resistances). Each character has about 16 powers made up of Active powers (ones that deal damage), Boosts (ones that give you extra power), Passives (ones that always exist that dont cost Energy, eg Nightcrawler's "Sword Mastery" which makes all sword attacks stronger")and Xtremes (each character has two, one that pretty much clears out all enemies, and one that boots the team) Each hero also has 2 or more costumes that you can choose from eg
Colossus - Ultimate Costume, Ultimate Costume without Armor, Astonishing X-men Costume, 70's Costume, X-men Legends 1 Xtreme Costume, Greek Colossus Costume, and Age of Apocalypse (compile four teammembers with Age of Apocalypse costumes to get a +100% attack power bonus)
All in all this is a good game. I was dissapointed with the inclusion of the Brotherhood because it took away spots from popular X-men such as Angel, Beast, and Psylocke who should have been involved and the choices for unlockable characters were not very appealing which included Deadpool (a mercenary barely related to the x-men) An Avenger (Iron Man-makes no sense), and Xavier (who after you unlock him can magically walk). But it was good.

Fabulous!

I totally love this game! My family and I rented numerous games for our Game Cube in the past 6 months, and this is our favorite! We loved it so much we had to buy it - AND I bought 1 for my 23 year old daughter. This game can be family fun - my 5 year old son plays with my husband and I - we hook up 3 controllers and play as a team! It's totally cool when we hook it up to the big screen TV!

Just As Good As The First Or Better!

Ok first this game is so much fun, mainly because you have tons of characters to select from the beginning, both X-Men and Brotherhood and of course you always have other characters you can unlock. There is of course the concept art, load screens, comic books, and cut scenes you can unlock after beating a level. You can also go play around in the Danger Room, play the trivia game which you can earn experience points for correctly answering the questions. There are also costumes you can get besides the ones the characters come with. I've already beaten the game on easy and now doing it on normal then hopefully hard, which by the way you can chose what level you want to play at. So all I have to say is...this is an AWSOME game!!!

Excellent game

X-Men Legends II: The Age of Apocalypse is a 3d RPG based on the X-Men from the Marvel Comics universe. As the title says the ultimate boss is Apocalypse himself.

Pros
Gameplay is really fun for a while.
Graphics are OK, very appropriate for a comics based franchise.
The AI of your comrades and your enemies is acceptable.
The easy mode is really easy. This is a must for kids and casual gamers.
Alternate costumes, so you can outfit your heroes the way you remember/prefer them.
The selection of playable characters is great.
Having some alternate costumes like Jean's Phoenix and Dark Phoenix is awesome.
The bosses, npc and other cameos are amazing. The developers borrow many things from the Age of Apocalypse Saga, but not the alternate reality plot from the original storyline.
Being able to play with not so mainstream characters like Sunfire, Deadpool and the Scarlet Witch is really nice. Or villains like Juggernaut...

Cons
The item picking/selling system gets really annoying. You'll find yourself teleporting to your HQ many times only to sell the excess of items so you can continue picking more of them.
There comes a time when your characters can't increase level fast enough, it gets boring.
There are many NPCs I'd want to play with: Archangel (not angel), Black Queen, White Queen, Blob, Havok, Shadowcat, Forge, Blink, Dazzler, Pyro and Vindicator.
Psylocke, my favorite x-woman is not a playable character. I'd like to have Siryn, Firestar and Quicksilver too.
Cannonball, Cable, Pyro, Sabretooth are exclusive playable characters of other platforms.
There are too many objects to destroy, so I find myself using Sunfire to blast objects in every room and corridor in search of secrets, it gets tiresome after a while.
Having Iron Man as an unlockable playable characters in an x-men game is odd.
The villains are the most interesting characters from the x-men comics, is a shame I can't play as Mister Sinister, Omega Red, Holocaust, Abyss or Apocalypse.

Playable Characters:
Cyclops
Iceman
Jean Grey
Storm
Colossus
Wolverine
Nightcrawler
Sunfire
Rogue
Bishop
Gambit
Scarlet Witch
Juggernaut
Magneto
Toad
Deadpool
Iron Man
Professor X

OK, maybe most of the cons are not really cons but more of a wish list for x-men legends 3. I've already played Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but that is another story.

xmen 3 no way xmen legends 2 o ya!!!!!

X-Men Legends (released almost a whole year ago!) re-vitalized the X-Men video game franchise. In combining its quasi RPG action hybrid with classic video game button mashing it created the most comphresive and (errrr) LEGENDARY X-men experiences. Now with fans begging for more, X-Men Legends 2 is finally here. Worth it? You bet? Legendary? Not so much.

The game is a great, fun, and vibrant experience. Fans of the X-Men with jump right in and assemble a team of their favorite heroes. Folks not familiar with the history might not find this one as readily accessable (due to the lack of any history or set up). The graphics are clear and the voice work and sound effects have been amped up too.

But nothing is perfect. The game does lack the sense of story and purpose that Legends 1 presented so well. The players is thrown into this story with many things assumed and unexplained. Players who completed the first game may be familiar with the set up, but lots of action has happened with huge chunks of the story left unexplained.

While the game does allow you to pick from 15 characters at the start, the rosters seems a bit random and (again) unexplained. The inclusion of the Brotherhood characters is great and works with the some of the previous X-Men stories (in print and film). But the lack of diversity is evident. It would have been far cooler to have everyone from the first one back for round 2 added with the new characters. All the characters have newer and cooler powers to play with and props goes to the programmers for working well with Scarlet Witch's probability mutation.

Another issue is the cluttered presentation. The fonts are a bit same and some of the screens are packed full of info. A cleaner, clearer style would have been far easier to work with in game.

The gameplay works well and is fun regardless of the team you assemble. Fans with of course pick their favorites, but the designers worked quite well with the character roster making it more effective and efficent this time around. Each character will answer the call of other teammates and sometimes using certain characters will cause a different reaction with NPC's that you run across.

Even though the story is a bit weak and the playable characters may seem off, X-Men Legends 2 is still a great game with plenty of stellar qualities. Decent graphics, amped up game play, new items, more characters, and extra ablities all make this a worth while addition.

Good use of licensing, average game overall

On occasion I get into what I call "moods": instead of randomly putting in a music CD, it tends to be one specific artist until something new catches my attention. Lately I've been in a big comic book kick, more notably, X-Men, so it makes sense I'd check this game out. Ironically I haven't beaten the first Legends yet but this game has a new story that you don't really need the first one to enjoy. While it is awesome to use X-Men characters, some of the gameplay designs just seem underdeveloped as well as other concepts.

Story: As you can probably tell, the game centers around the Age of Apocalypse storyline as him and his 4 Horsemen capture a couple X-Men and leads an assault on Earth. Professor X's X-Men has to reluctantly team up with the Brotherhood in order to bring down this powerful menace. Their trek will take them to the Savage Land, mutant city Genosha as well as Canada and Egypt.

Graphics: Basically a more nicer looking Legends with a noticeable cel-shaded look to everything. The in-game graphics are okay but nothing that spectacular. Certain environments just look repetitive while the characters aren't super detailed. However the FMV looks awesome and one particular one involving an air-strike is just as good as anything in cinema.

Sound/Music: The music is pretty forgettable. It fits the scenes well but once the thing's over, you can't remember anything about it. The voice acting is kind of a mixed bag from the good such as Xavier to Kitty Pryde to Forge to kinda bad such as Toad, the Ahnuld-sounding Colossus and pretty much every raspy voiced villain in the game.

Gameplay: The game features many playable characters and some unlockable ones. While you do get fan favorites such as Gambit, Wolverine or Nightcrawler(teleporting as never been so much fun), some questionable entries such as Scarlet Witch or Sunfire seem a bit strange. Would've been nice if they included Beast, Angel or Psylocke, or even Kitty Pryde. Instead they're relegated to NPC status, except Psylocke who doesn't appear at all.

You get weak and strong fighting buttons but each characters has special moves. Holding R and pressing either A, B, X or Y, you'll activate a special move such as Wolverine diving with his claws to Gambit throwing his trademark exploding trading cards to Colossus doing a huge punch. Only problem is that some seem a bit too familiar such as the women and some powers just seem kinda lackluster. Is the game difficult? Kind of. Some are simply easy while there will be sections that will drive you insane cause of how cheap a boss is or running out of health packs.

Should you get it? If you're an X-Men fan than definately. If you're not, I suggest giving it a rental first.
