When I first bought gamecube I had 20 bucks left, and Godzilla was 20 bucks. So I said eh I herd it was good, might as well. And it kicked ass!!. If you like smash brothers you will love this game. I didn't think it was going to be great. I thought it was going to be ok but I didn't expect it to be amazing. This is a really fun game. If you have like 4 to 3 to 10 people over!!!! You need to play this game. Only wish it was longer. It's pretty long but not the story, like you have to beat the game with different characters. If you seen all the movies, you'll recognize them. This is how you get the special characters.

This game rocks! You get to be Godzilla!(or one of his enemies) How fun is that? U r a couple stories tall and u fight other monsters as big as u while the tiny humans try to stop u. Its very fun to step on an army tank and watch it blow up under your foot. Or the Helicopters! Its kinda Like Super Smash Bros Melee only Godzilla Style! I myself though that the old movies looked dumb and the monsters were retarted. But this game gives them a 2000 look. U can play as Godzilla 90s and Godzilla 2000(as well as other monsters). The only differences between the two are the color of the spikes on their backs (blue/Pink) and the color of the radioactive "beam" (blue/orange). One of the modes is destruction where u and another player try to destroy more of the city. pretty cool. And like most game like this u have to unlock levels and monsters(i think u start with 3) but that makes it more interesting. Sure the plot isn't really good but hey who cares? People will either like this or hate it, i don't u can be a fence-sitter.

Great Game!

I really anticipated this game because I am a Godzilla fan, and when I got it for Christmas I was really impressed. The game is a lot like Super Smash Bros. except with destructible cities, classic monsters, and a different type of camera movement. It really grows on you, and, depending on what kind of player you are, requires some strategy. As a previous review noted, the destruction of the buildings isn't quite as realistic and exciting as it should be, it is still a great and original element of gameplay. The graphics and sound are pretty good, and the monsters are very accurate. (According to Nintendo's website, Toho worked closely with the game's developers to make sure of this.) The monsters have a wide variety of attacks and combos, and each have unique abilities. The Adventure mode is exactly like SSB, and gets a little repetetive. There are 11 monsters: Godzilla 90's, Godzilla 2000, Mechagodzilla, Anguirus, Megalon, Gigan, Destroyah, King Ghidorah, Mecha King Ghidorah, Rodan, and Orga. There are 8 cities, each divided into about 3 regions. There is also a Monster Island environment and a Mothership environment. You can choose either day or night for every environment except the Mothership. There is a Versus mode where you fight a computer player, a Survival mode where you see how long you can survive 8 monsters (1 at a time), a Destruction mode where you destroy buildings to earn points, a Melee mode where you fight with 2-4 players (no computers), and a Team Battle mode, where you fight with a red team and a blue team. There is a Gallery where you can get concept artwork by collecting silver Atari symbols in Medium and Hard difficulty in Adventure mode. I think this is a good choice for a Godzilla fan or a fighting game fan.

I bought a Gamecube because of this game!

Although I am a long time Godzilla fan, his past videogames have left much to be desired. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I first played this game at a friend's house. It actually made me run out and buy a Game Cube! Smashing, destroying, punching, kicking, spitting fire and shooting lasers out of your face....this is what Godzilla is all about, my friends! And this is what Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee delivers. It's sort of like violent breakdancing... a symphony of destruction where you are the conductor and other monsters are your percussive instruments.

I happen to like this game for certain qualities that you may or may not enjoy. It is similar to Smash Brothers, which is another game I like. However, the melee mode action in Smash Bros is usually a little too fast for me to follow... so when I play it with friends I usually get...kicked, which looses its charm after about a thousand times. But the action in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters is a little slower. Although it may be a drawback in the opinion of some fighting game gurus, the slower action forces players to rely more on strategy and actually gives me the chance to be on par with my friends in melee mode. It's the perfect fighting game to play with your friends if you are not already a fighting game expert or if you're just an old timer like me. At any rate, it really is more appropriate that these classic giant monsters are more lumbering than the Smash Bros characters.

The animation is great, the models look good and the sound is awesome. The camera movement manages to be exciting without making me feel like I am going to puke. Some of the simulations (like the smoke) and visuals are little cheesy and the plot is appropriately ridiculous, but overall it is technically satisfactory. There are several exciting play details added, like the Army trying to shoot you and your monster friends with freeze ray cannons and Mothra making a cameo as the fickle finger of fate. The monsters have unique and interesting moves... and there is just something about dropkicking Megalon through the highrise district that satisfies the soul. I am only sorry that Jet Jaguar was not included so I could shove an oil tanker into his face.

Best Gamecube Game Ever

This is the best Gamecube game ever. But it is much more than that. It is quite possibly the GREATEST SINGLE GAME EVER CREATED IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND.

I do not exagerrate. This game alone is worth the cost of a Nintendo Gamecube, or Xbox or whatever. The sheer amount of raw, unadulterated FUN that this game packs is unprecedented.

The game can be played in several modes:

ADVENTURE (1-Player)
SURVIVAL (1-Player)
VERSUS (1-2 Players)
MELEE (2-4 Players)
DESTRUCTION (2-4 Players)
TEAM BATTLE (2-4 Players)

The game is plenty fun on its own, but really shines in multiplayer. There's nothing quite like getting a handful of friends together to totally trash a city and each other. This game is basically a wrestling game using giant monsters. There's nothing quite as satisfying as picking up a building, hurling it through the air, having it whack your opponent in the head like a sack of bricks, and sending him to the ground.

Adventure Mode (the single-player mode) is very fun. It is hard at first, but gets better and better. Every time you beat it, you unlock a monster. When you beat it with the new monster, you unlock another monster, and so on and so forth.

The graphics in the game are fantastic. The small details of cars and trucks exploding at the monsters' feet are wonderful. The game also features a lot of nice touches, such as planes and helicopters shooting missles at the monsters, tanks shooting freeze weapons, and UFO's flying through the air. The humans usually aim for whichever monster is doing the most city destruction.

Each monster in the game has its own strenths, weaknesses, and quirks. And I've been playing this game for over a year and still haven't found all the quirks.

1. GODZILLA 90's - One of the best monsters overall. Average speed, good strength, good range, and the longest-range breath weapon.

2. GODZILLA 2000 - Not a lot of difference over the other Godzilla, if you ask me. Looks a little cooler.

3. ANGUIRUS - Cool little spiky guy who runs on all fours and can roll around. Very fast, good brawler. Can dodge breath weapons well, but has poor range for his own breath weapon.

4. MEGALON - Has a few cool tricks up his sleeve. A very good fighter. Not the best ranged weapons, but can dig which more than makes up for it.

5. GIGAN - Is fast and agile. Can teleport. Also has very long range eye-beam weapon. Not the greatest brawler, but not bad either.

6. RODAN - Rodan is my personal favorite. Can fly, swooping back and forth all over the flippin' map. Can do some great air attacks. Is very fast and regenerates energy quickly.

7. DESTROYAH - Extremely good brawler. Very strong. (You'd best get away :) His breath weapon has poor range.

8. KING GHIDORAH - Can fly a bit. Has good range for his weapon. Is a good brawler, but is a bit slow.

9. MECHA-KING GHIDORAH - Same as King Ghidorah, but also features stun missles. Don't forget to use 'em!

10. MECHA-GODZILLA - Awesome monster. Can fly. Has powerful ranged attacks and is a very powerful brawler. Only has 2 slight weaknesses. One is that his fighting range is not always the greatest (Godzilla's tail is longer, for instance.) Another is that he is very reliant on energy. It regenerates quickly, but if you are ever totally out, in a pinch you may find yourself sunk.

11. ??? - (Mystery Monster)

The game also features:

Mothra: The "Mothra Airstrike!" Powerup is quite cool. Mothra comes in and starts zapping you or your opponent. Some reviewers have complained that you can't play as Mothra. I think this complaint is unjustified. This is a wrestling melee game. Mothra doesn't even have any arms and legs, for crying out loud! Any attempt to make her a playable character sounds pretty ill-advised to me. Sorry, but I just can't see her laying the smack down and doing The People's Eyebrow.

Hedorah - The Smog Monster: This guy does make an appearance. He floats through the air at random occasionally and, for lack of a better word, passes gas above the heads of the monsters. If a monster touches the gas, his energy regeneration is worsened.

Besides the monsters, the game has other unlockables such as arenas featuring Monster Island and the Alien Mothership, as well as a huge artwork image Gallery. (Sorry folks, but in spite of what some have said there is no "Godzilla 80's" to unlock. I've read every FAQ on the net, and there is no "Godzilla 80's" cheat.)

There are some special moves that you should know about, as well as a few tips:

1. Megalon's digging. This is a very powerful trick. The goal of this is to use the digging to tunnel right under an opponent, then hit A+B to pick him up and throw him. To dig, hit A+Y. That will send you underground.

2. Gigan's teleporting. To teleport behind your opponent, hit L+R together. Alternatively, you can hit A+Y.

3. Rodan's air swoop. There is a nice aerial attack that Rodan can do. Fly over an opponent, and then hit X while you are still in the air. You will do a flip and slam him.

4. Grabbing tanks and trains. Don't forget to pick them up and throw them.

5. Leg Whack. If you've been knocked down, don't forget to hit X to slam into your opponent as you get up. You will be surprised at how often your friends will fall for this dirty little trick.

6. Survival Mode. The best arena for survival mode is London. The reason is because it has so much stuff to throw, and you will need it all to survive if the arena is not set to regenerate. You can throw Big Ben at your opponent, and that side has lots of walls to throw. On the other side, there is a train station with lots of train cars to throw.

I only have 3 complaints about this game:

1. Jet Jaguar is not in it. (He is in Godzilla vs. Megalon - the best Godzilla movie ever).

2. Ebirah is not in it. (The giant lobster from Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster).

3. There is no AI available to fight alongside you in Team Battles. There are codes for this on the Xbox version, but not on the Gamecube. It would have been really nice to have an AI partner, since my so-called "friends" tend to all gang up on me every time we play this game :)

----------------

Now to vent a little:

Some reviewer, "Paul Thiem", called this game "flawed" and gave it 1 Star. 1 Freakin' Star! Give me a break.

He complained about the camera angle, which is pretty trite. I'm getting sick of people complaining about camera angles in every other review they give. It doesn't matter how good the game is, SOMEBODY has to complain about the camera angle. Well let me just say that the camera angle in this game is WORKS GREAT and you've got NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. Get a life, people.

He also complains about transparent buildings. But if the buildings weren't transparent when you were right up beside them, you wouldn't be able to see your monster. Don't you know he would be complaining if that were the case? For sure. You can't have it both ways, pal.

Then he complains about Adventure mode sometimes not always putting you in the most advantageous of starting positions. This just sounds like plain old whining to me.

Then he whines that Godzilla is a "Priveleged Monster" who won't let you pick him up. Well, give me a break! So the computer AI is pretty darn smart. Well isn't that we all WANT in a game?

He complains that the Gallery doesn't do anything and you can't view any of the pictures. That's because you haven't unlocked them yet!!! You are not yet worthy of viewing them. And yes, this IS mentioned in the instruction manual where it says to be sure to collect the Atari icons hidden in the game to unlock special features. I've unlocked about half of the Gallery items myself. It requires patience and persistence, but not even that much. It's called "Replay Value."

He complains that you can't save in the middle of adventure mode. Huh? A good player can beat Adventure Mode in less than half an hour. Why would somebody ever need to save in the middle? Unless they are just lousy at the game, don't want to learn it, and need a save crutch to get by.

He then complains that you can't see the high scores menu. Just go to "Options" and select the high scores menu. Was that really so difficult? I can't believe that because this guy can't figure out how to get to the high scores menu, he wants to give this game 1 star.

Apparently it is true that you can't please everybody. Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is one of the best games, if not the best game ever. At least I know that 99% of the other reviewers here appreciate how truly great this game is! This game is LOTS of fun and has a VERY HIGH replay value, especially in multiplayer games. Highly Recommended.

Godzilla, Gigan, and Rodan are back, along with all of their old (and some of their new) enemies. This game will make any Godzilla fan drool. With 11 monsters, two of which are Godzilla himself (Godzilla 90's and Godzilla 2000), the only thing this game is missing is a better storyline. There is actualy a 12th "super secret" monster, but it's not that hard to figure out who he is since they have the little emblem of every monster in the game inside the instruction manuel. I'll give you a hint, it's not Mothra or Heodrah.
The sounds in this game are amazingly true to to the sounds in the game (how they dug up the old Megalon roar and actualy made the dated noise sound better I'll never know).
What storyline they do have is exactly as cheesy as the old movie storylines. An advanced evil alien race comes to earth to enslave us. In order to keep us from rebeling they take control of all monsters with a mind control device. There is one monster that slips through their fingers and must defeat all the other monsters and save the world. That's right! Gigan or Megalon could be the hero this time!
The other fault to this game is it's so easy to beat. You can get all of the cities and monsters on easy mode except for maybe Mechagodzilla, who takes the role of the alien's secret weapon (I earned all except him and the super secret monster on the first day of playing).
but bash, destroy, and incinerate enemy monsters is not all this game has to offer. You can also bash, destroy, and incinerate buildings for points! Whoever has the most points at the end of the time limit wins.I find that mode especialy fun when playing as Ghidora or Mecha Ghidora, because they have a grab-and-throw move where you lift enemy monsters off the ground, into the air, and then slam them back down, which can be done to destroy buildings.
This game is an all-around good game, but it's a terrific game to 3 kinds of people:
1. A Godzilla NUT (like me)
2. Someone with about 20 minutes of free time every day
or
3. Someone with about 3 friends who they see often and enough controlers for all of them.

GODZILLA IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Godzilla: Destroy All Monstaers Melee is awesome!! Not only does it have TWO Godzillas as playable characters (Godzilla 90's and Godzilla 2000), but it also has Anguirus, Rodan, Gigan, King Ghidorah, Mecha-King Ghidorah, Destroyah, Mechagodzilla, Megalon, and Orga!!! That's ELEVEN different monsters to play with! It's so cool to be able to play as Godzilla and destroy Tokyo! Here are the modes:
1. Versus: 1-on-1 match.
2. Adventure: Story mode, defeat Mechagodzilla to win.
3. Destruction: DESTROY A CITY!!!
4. Melee: Fight to earn points.
5. Team Battle: 3-4 players battle in teams.
This is one of the best game for Gamecube! The only bad thing is that you can't play as Mechagodzilla 3 like you can in the Xbox version. Other than that it's the BEST!!! Buy this!!

A game that does Godzilla justice!

A horrible American movie based on Godzilla made the poor lizard's reputation go down to rock bottom. Than came Godzilla 2000 which was a so-so Godzilla flick made by the true Godzilla people. The Japanese Godzilla films were some of the best camp sci-fi films. And now Godzilla gets a game made on the original films with all of Godzilla's pals and enemys. Godzilla is definetly a cult classic which was begging for a great game. The cities are fully interactive with tanks shooting at you, flying saucers, and if you get crashed into a building it falls down. You can grab buildings and throw them at your opponet.

A MUST for any Godzilla fan

It's about as close to feeling like Godzilla that you will probably ever come. This game looks and sounds cool as hell.

I have my Gamecube hooked up to my stereo receiver, hearing Godzilla's roar coming through my speakers gave me goosebumps!

I am 35 years old and a mild Godzilla fan. My nephews who are 8 and 10 also really enjoyed this game.

MORE monsters would have been nice, other than that the game is about perfect. Maybe they are saving room for Godzilla Melee 2?

I can only hope.

When you first see this game think it might not be whorth your time. But you are wrong. This game, although slow in pace of each beast excluding Rodan, is a solid alround fun buy. The sounds are all spot on to the classic films. And what can be more fun than laying the smack-down on a poor unscepecting city. Wheather it be LAX or Big Ben, its just plain fun to destroy cities, there's even an antire mode dedacated on distroying a city of your choice. This game even upholds its goofy look of thier rubber suited counter parts; slice a foot: the monster shows its pain by hopping on one foot, holding its smited one! With a corny plot, excellent graphics that mimic the films' look, good gameplay this is a fun and good buy, even though all monsters, and areas can be unloked in an hour and a half.
