Simpsons: Hit & Run isn't as great as detailed by other reviewers here. I would go further to say that I only recommend it for true Simpsons fans. If your not a fan, you probably won't enjoy this much.
The graphics are pretty good and Springfield is created in detail matching the classic TV show, down to the treehouse in the Simpson's back yard and the Flaming Moe's at Moe's Tavern. It's all here - the Power Plant, the elementary school, and one scenario in a Malibu Stacy-inspired city on the ocean complete with palm trees. But if you're not a fan, this detail won't mean much.
The game is basicly a racing game with a variety of vehicles to drive including the Simpson family sedan and Groundskeeper Willie's tractor. But the storyline makes little to no sense and no effort was made to make the character's mouths match the dialog even remotely.
There are more that 3 levels, but after level 3 they repeat, only with different characters. This wouldn't be that bad except that secrets & hidden things from the first 3 levels are copied as well, so it gets boring. So it seems like on level 4 you are replaying level 1 again. If I wanted to do that, I'd go back and play level 1 again.
Also, the game save/load options could be improved. It would be nice if you could label a saved game so you can tell your's from other family members' - maybe by entering initials or a few characters. You save them on a memory card, so it wouldn't have been a big deal.
So the results are mixed. I'm a Simpson fan, so for at least the first 3 levels I was entertained. But when level 4 came around and there was nothing new, I felt gypped. If your not a Simpson's fan - or not sure someone is whom you're buying it for - then stay away. Rent it or borrow it for a week. If you are a fan, I'm still not sure this is the best use of your money. Buy a Simpsons DVD set for the same money - you may enjoy it more.

The Simpsons Hit and Run is pretty much Simpsons Road Rage except you only play the mission mode. There are more missions (more than 50 in all) than Road Rage, but you pretty much just drive around and try to collect items, or race people; That's it. You are able to get out of your car and walk around although through the first 15 missions (that's all I've played, and that is all I'm going to play due to mind numbing boredom) aside from getting out to talk to someone about your mission objective there is only one part of one mission that requires you to do that. There are things you can unlock by collecting different items around town and you have to get out and walk around to do that, but still collecting stuff gets old fast and so does the racing (I can only stand racing games when I'm racing real people). The people who gave this game a good review are obviously just huge Simpsons fans who have only played the game for 15 minutes (it's actually pretty fun for a while until you realize that almost every mission is the same). It's possible that you may like this game, it's also possible that you are an idiot.

i expected it to be worth buyin but it wasn't. this game starts off alright but gets boring really fast. plus, ive owned 2 copy's now and both of them froze every ten minutes without a scratch or finger print. as far as i can tell, they didnt get all the bugs out of it before releasing it.
It's fun to smash things

Grand Theft Simpsons is a great idea. But the execution is not in regards to this game. It may look wonderful but the graphics are not without their annoying flaws and while the voice cast may be great the initial hilarity quickly gives way to tedium.
Simpsons: Hit and Run is an average game. It has a lot of coolness to it but also a lot of crappiness that severely cripples enjoyment.
Pros:
-Zillions of in jokes
-It's incredibly cute
-The muzak can sometimes sound quite cool
-Some of the levels look simply gorgeous
-The levels are big enough without being too big and there's lots to explore.
-The cut-scenes are brilliant!
-It's got a better plot than the lame, tired TV show has had in years.
Cons:
-Not enough ways to make money
-Money is all too easily taken from you
-Many cool things are available to buy but there isn't enough money in the level to buy them
-All missions are timed and involve collecting things
-Traffic jams occur faaaar too easily and they are very, very hard to get out of
-Wherever you want to go, a hundred cars will be blocking your way
-Many kinds of car are available, but they're all crap
-Certain cars are required for certain missions but for no real reason
-When the Police are after you it's almost impossible to get away
-The police will come after you too quickly and easily
-Whenever you desperately need a car there won't be one for miles
-Many, MANY opportunities for amazing stunts are ignored, most of the time the game will simpley fade out and then back in rather than show a cool crash
-There's not really that much interaction with the environment
-There is no proper mapping system
-The camera often gets stuck
-Since when was Springfield a vast metropolis?
I'll admit that I simply gave up on this game, it's just absolutely IN-FUR-I-ATING. I wanted to crush the controls with my hand and smash in my TV screen in uncontrollable, blind, ugly rage. THAT is what this game will do to you. The poor programming and unfair disadvantages will drive you crazy. If this is the kind of game you like (and why?) then go ahead. For the rest of us who rely on skill and strategy (and not just luck) in order to get through video games, we'll calmly put this game aside and move onto something else.

Let me start off by saying, I love the Simpsons and I love this style game. I have to say, though, that playing it was a bit frustrated...I couldn't help comparing it to GTA3(Grand Theft Auto 3). In GTA3, you are your own man and can do pretty much what you want. The Simpsons characters, however, were held too much to a structured game play. It would have been neat if parallel mission strings existed in which you could define Springfeilds future in some way.
For those who can't stomach grand theft auto, this game is for you. I assume you don't know what your missing.
If you have played grand theft auto, you may be left disappointed.
not bad, and it doesn't suck or blow

A Simpsons fan will enjoy this game for a few days. The game takes place in a very realistic 3-d world of Springfield. You can drive around town and explore at your own pace. But, then there's an actual game with missions that takes place. Bart gets abducted by space aliens, and the family works hard tracking him down. You take turns as Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Apu repeating virtually the same missions over and over again. The game is fairly hard, and quite frustrating. Going to all the different places in Springfield is very fun, but the mission's are a pain in the neck. Especially when you come real close, and miss, and have to do the whole thing over again. The game's cheap now, so it's worth a pick up. But, play just to drive around and explore the town. The vehicles are fun and fast, and if you get bored, actually play the game.
Is the language really necessary?

It's bad enough that my son talked me into buying a game that includes running over people, police chases, and car theft - these things he understands are make-believe - but is the bad language really necessary? The first time he played it, after five minutes, I was tired of hearing Homer incessantly swearing, cursing, and namecalling. While my son isn't going to run people over with a car, he will pick up phrases and words. Fortunately, the game has the option of turning off the voices.
Enjoy but be cautious!!!

I liked that you get to experience the world of the popular cartoon from within. The manufacturer really put a lot of originality and creativity into development of this game. The graphics-and especially atmospheres-were created in a way that sometimes it is fun to cancel a mission and just to drive around the town or city in either your own car or every car you admire that you can borrow from any driver on the street. Once you get comfortable with the level, it becomes fun to play; however, at the beginning the game could become very frustrating. Those who enjoy racing games might get a kick out of it; however, one must expect every mission to have a TIMER, making you either rush to an appointed area, race one of the characters to the finish line, or try to destroy enemy vehicles in the time allowed. My greatest disappointment came from near-absence of tasks where the character can complete the level "on foot" - 98% of the game you are in the various cars racing your @#$%&* out to complete the task on time; and, trust me, beautiful graphics are the least of your concern here. Anyway, the game is clearly aimed at 8 to 13 year-olds and if you can locate a used copy for $ 20-25 it would we worth buying; I believe that if you will spend any more than this, you might end up feeling frustrated from overpaying.
