Not a game.

Hey guess what, this is not a game. I purchased this on the first day and it was a waste of money. This is more along the line of a digital pet, that has a bad attitude. This may sound good, but there is no entertainment value or fun in this "game". You will spend a lot of time watching small creatures float that have not learned to talk. Once they do grow and learn to talk, all you will hear is complaints. It is even hard to feed them and keep them happy. The microphone that is included in the game works well and is the only fun part of it.

This is a video pet and not a game. It plays very slow and when your Seaman is ready to talk, he is rude. There is very little enjoyment in Seaman. The microphone does work well and could be fun.

Seaman is alright, but has quite a few cons!

I would not recommend buying this game [for] however much it is (sorry, Amazon! :-) But it's an alright game for a few days. Actually, it got very boring...if you're in to the who Feng Shui thing, I would recommend putting it in the corner where the water is supposed to flow to "bring the cash in!" But, other than that... At first, you're stuck with all these little fish lookin' guys with the weirdest faces. Some of the things they say are cute, but after they say them about a million times, they just get plain annoying. (I found out though, that if you say "distinguish" or "Please speak in English" in the game, the "Seaman" will reply in English.) If you are a protective parent, I would not get this game. The Seaman does say some pretty bad words...and it's like a virtual pet...why, just today when I was playing, both of the seamen I had wouldn't talk to me; they just signified that they were very angry with me...WeIrD! Besides, the Seaman hardly understands you half of the time, even if you articulate clearly...and it's a very hard game to keep your patience with. If you get bored watching the same thing all the time, don't get this. Unfortunately, it's too late for me, and I just set the dreamcast one day ahead when I want the game to progress faster. So, in a nutshell, this game is alright, but the whole voice recignition thing has a few bugs to work out and...unappropriate...material in it... Get it if you want to, but I wouldn't buy a game like this for that price. (Again, sorry, Amazon! I do love your store!)

Short. Seaman gives up. Can't Recognize Me

Sure, this game is cool. I Mean, you get to talk to a fish type human thing. That's cool. THIS GAME IS WAY OVERRATED. I loved it the first 2 weeks, when Seaman would ask me questions and get to know me. It never realized to me though that he would only ask me about 5-10 minutes worth of stuff a day and then say "we'll talk more tomorrow". Sure.. what are friends for? Let's just put it off for tomorrow. A lot of times they'd not even understand me. Then there's the problem of this game lasting about two weeks and then it's all over and your seaman is in a new environment and he really has nothing to say to you. It did make me cry when my first seaman died in order to keep his species going. It also made me cry when my last Seaman finally got out and he gave me this long speech about our friendship. He's witty and all. Think of it like this: how would you like it if you got a new best friend in two that you could tell anything and not worry about being abused (well, not that much, at least). Then imagine that same friend leaving you right after you having to get used to him. I heard there might be an observation kit coming out. Why should I Keep waiting money on this? I mean, video games don't come cheap. It's worth a rent or a borrow from friends for a week or so, but afterwards, it's almost worthless.

ALMOST great!

If you have the time allowable-this is an intriguing game-and Leonard Nimoy narrating adds to the bizzarre scenario.
Yes,the plot is raising a very intelligent human/fish hybrid. After the first week-it goes from 'baby-talk' to asking personal and philosophical questions and stays within the personality you've described relating to you.
If you purchase-DO WEB RESEARCH!!I was doing fantastic-and then he quit eating-no reason-he just stopped.I felt cheated. That's my only gripe about a truly unique item.

It's Great the First Few Times......... (3.5 stars)

....but after you've beat it and played it a couple times, it gets really old very quickly. But, this game is %100 original! A very unique and cool concept. I just think more could've been done to keep the replay value up a bit.

The graphics: Amazing
The sound: Very good
Concept: Out of this world!
Replay Value: Gets boring after you play it enough

So the only reason why I'm giving this 3.5 stars instead of 4 is because, let's face it, it can get old very quickly. Plus, you have to have A LOT of free time to keep him alive!!! I used to have that time in high school, but now starting my second semester at college, well.....time isn't as free any more.

It's a game that should be checked out, though. Just be warned, you might get bored with it real quick. I thought it was the greatest game at first, but then it seemed like nothing new happens. Once you beat it, that's it. Replay value is the only major flaw with the game.

One wierd virtual pet

To start, one word.. Weird. This game is just odd. A sort of virtual pet/friend, seaman at times can be enjoyable, then can be boring, or just downright freaky. The concept is interesting and done pretty well. You raise a small group of half fish/man creatures from eggs to something.. well lets just keep it at something. The voice recognition has to be the best out there, with no need to train it to your voice, I rarely had to repeat anything. For me it got boring, after about 10 minutes of talking to my fish he wouldn't want to talk about anything else until tomorrow, so I would have to wait until the next day to have anything new happen. And it seemed like no matter how good I treated my seamen, they all talked smack to me, putting me down and never once saying they liked me. It might be a good game for some, but only the die hard virtual pet lovers, for others this game is going to be boring. Rent it before you buy.it.

Lots of fun, but could be much more forgiving.

This is hardly what I would call a game. The virtual pet aspect is pretty weak. Seaman gets cold, you turn up the heat. Seaman needs oxygen, you turn on the bubbles. Seaman is hungry, you feed him a bug. Not too amazing. The main draw is the speech recognition. When Seaman asks you a question, you may be surprised about what he understands. Unfortunately, when he hasn't prompted you he rarely responds, and if he does he usually responds incorrectly. Seaman's philosophies are rarely deeper than what you'd see on Oprah, but it is funny to see how he tailors his analyses from your previous responses. If you don't cheat, I couldn't imagine keeping up with the slow pace of his development. I merely set the internal clock forward to speed things up. An option to play with a grown Seaman would have been awesome. In the end, it's kinda neat but you are bound to get bored with it pretty quickly. As a diehard I am satisfied but normal people would probably be better off with a more traditional game.

great; read and review!

Here it is the much anticipated interactive manfish from the shores of Japan. I bought this game because I am having a child and I am anticipating this being a pleasant interactive experience for them. By the time they are old enough to play it though I will probably have to clunk down for the next version of this title. Here is a short review. PROS: Soothing sound effects and gameplay Leonard Nimoy as Narrator

Interactive Microphone Daily Gameplay

Humourour Dialogue with manfish Cons: Limited gameplay variation Graphics Somewhat Clunky Repeated Voice Interaction required*

I would recommend this title to those of you with enough imagination to make it entertaining. I am sure that the next version of this game will be amazing as this one seems it might almost be.
