This game is by far the most original game I ever saw. It is awsome and strange, If you didnt try it yet then do it! you will have loads of fun. when you first start it will be difficult to understand, but when you get the hang of it and when they grow and talk its loads of fun from there. GET THIS GAME!!
Weird, scary, fun, slightly insane, and totally unique!

My oh my. I just "finished" the game today by setting Seaman free, and what, if anything, happens beyond that, I'm not sure. I can say without any reservations that these past few days have given me the strangest gaming experience I've ever had. In a good way. Well, mostly... It's been said before, but let me emphasize that the speech recognition system is not so hot. I was probably only able to communicate effectively with Seaman about 25% of the time. The rest of the time, the speech recognition system couldn't register what I saying at all or registered it wrongly. Here are a couple of examples: Several times, I wanted to see if Seaman would give me some further insight into his evolution, so I said, "Evolve?" He responded, "Sir? I like the sound of that!" Near the end of the game when I was trying to help Seaman achieve freedome, I'd say, "Escape?" He'd say something like, "You think I'M scary? Why don't you look in the mirror?" Many other times, I couldn't figure out what he thought I'd said at all, but it was obviously a misinterpretation. And let me say that I was enunciating very carefully.
However, when the speech system did work, there were many pleasant surprises about what Seaman could understand. He once asked me about my all-time favorite movie, and I said, "Pulp Fiction." He said, "I could really go for some waffles and some chicken, and if you don't get the reference, then I guess we know who's the bigger Tarentino fan!" That was only one of many funny, sarcastic responses typical of this virtual pet. I could go on and on with the Seaman anecdotes, but I'm sure it would be much more fun for you to experience it for yourself.
The "game" aspects are not very challenging--you do have to keep the aquarium at the appropriate temperatures and levels of oxygen, and the control on the heater is a bit tricky. Food management is also a little tough at times since you are required to raise the food yourself in a separate cage. You also need to keep Seaman happy in order to further his evolution, and this includes kind words and lots of tickling with the little hand icon.
The main part of the game, though, is just talking to Seaman and listening to his insights. He is, in turns, sarcastic and witty, slightly condescending, nagging, and analyzing you like a politically incorrect talk show shrink with lots of humor sprinkled throughout. Since your parts of the conversations are usually single-word responses given to specific questions, Seaman is the one running the show. He is interested in you, but he is even more interested in what he thinks of you, and he won't hesitate to let you know. But he is never downright cruel, and some of his insights are likely to be more true than you'd care to admit. Be prepared to reveal your age, birthday, marital status, career, family info, sense of self-worth, politics, religion, hobbies, health regimen, and more.
This is a strange, STRANGE game, but I do have to give it a strong recommendation, partially for sheer weirdness and partially because it was quite entertaining. "I love you too, Pookie."
Patience and love are virtues!

I bought this game almost a week ago, and I haven't touched any of my other Dreamcast games since. I don't really know why, either. All I know is I'm fascinated by Seaman. First off, let me just say that you need two things to enjoy Seaman, patience and an understanding of what you are about to undertake.
When you turn on Seaman, you are greeted by the great Leonard Nimoy. He updates you on your progress each time you begin the game. It's a beautiful touch, which always makes smile. You are given a virtual aquarium at the beginning of your adventure, some food, and a Seaman egg. You have control over the lights in the tank, the air quality, and the tank's heater. These all create a nice, simple interactive environment right away, although it would be nice if you could turn the heat down as well as up. As it is, if your water gets too hot, all you can do is wait for it to slowly drop. So with all this ready, you drop your Seaman egg in the water and begin your Seaman's life.
I'm going to skip ahead some. There are steps to raising your Seaman which I won't go into here. Learning for yourself how to raise your Seaman is most of the fun of this game. In fact, if I could go back, I would even start the game without having read the instruction booklet. Anyway, the real fun begins when your Seaman has grown up and starts talking to you. It's almost eerie when he starts asking you personal questions and responds accurately to your answers. You'll be calling all your relatives to share the experience with them. You'll even get a chance to name your Seaman.
I'm having so much fun with Seaman, and I haven't even had it a week. The only problem I have seen is with the voice recognition system. A lot of times, your Seaman won't understand you and will either stay quiet or just look at you and say, "What?" But it hardly takes away the fun of the game. All you need is patience. Now, I'm going to go check on my Seaman. Buy this game right now!

Seaman is a really fun and original game. It features Leonard Nimoy as the Narrarator every time you start up the game. He gives you hints and advice prior to each session. I thought that it was pretty neat how you start off with an egg to drop into the tank. You then have to adjust the Heater, air, and light to the correct settings in order for it to hatch properly. After dropping the egg in the tank, you are forced to wait it out. So when you turn the game off, your VMU is still active and waiting the birth out as well. Right now, my wife and I are trying to teach them how to talk. I thought that it was especially amazing when we were saying a few words over and over into the Microphone, when one of them cried out and said "I'm Learning!". My wife and I looked at each other with astonishment and fear. "My goodness, did you hear that?", my wife replied. It is like teaching a child to talk. Remember that this is not your average type video game but like a Virtual Pet. You need to take care of it, talk to it, feed it, and even tickle it to make happy and healthy. Overall, this game may not appeal to everyone but I gave it 5 stars because it did to us.
Seaman is alright, but has quite a few cons!

I would not recommend buying this game [for] however much it is (sorry, Amazon! :-) But it's an alright game for a few days. Actually, it got very boring...if you're in to the who Feng Shui thing, I would recommend putting it in the corner where the water is supposed to flow to "bring the cash in!" But, other than that... At first, you're stuck with all these little fish lookin' guys with the weirdest faces. Some of the things they say are cute, but after they say them about a million times, they just get plain annoying. (I found out though, that if you say "distinguish" or "Please speak in English" in the game, the "Seaman" will reply in English.) If you are a protective parent, I would not get this game. The Seaman does say some pretty bad words...and it's like a virtual pet...why, just today when I was playing, both of the seamen I had wouldn't talk to me; they just signified that they were very angry with me...WeIrD! Besides, the Seaman hardly understands you half of the time, even if you articulate clearly...and it's a very hard game to keep your patience with. If you get bored watching the same thing all the time, don't get this. Unfortunately, it's too late for me, and I just set the dreamcast one day ahead when I want the game to progress faster. So, in a nutshell, this game is alright, but the whole voice recignition thing has a few bugs to work out and...unappropriate...material in it... Get it if you want to, but I wouldn't buy a game like this for that price. (Again, sorry, Amazon! I do love your store!)
What a quirky, great game!

Wow, I can't believe Sega released this here! As you can probably tell by all the glowing reviews, this is a great ... simulation. :) It will amaze you, and freak you out at the same time. The first time you have a conversation with your little seaman is pretty disturbing. Buy it today!
Great game!!!

I have never had so much fun with agame. This is one of the best games I have ever played. As you raise the Seaman he asks you questions and you can actually get advice from this creature. It has an adult wit and very sarcastic if you neglect him. It is the best game I have played. Very entertaining.
ALMOST great!

If you have the time allowable-this is an intriguing game-and Leonard Nimoy narrating adds to the bizzarre scenario.
Yes,the plot is raising a very intelligent human/fish hybrid. After the first week-it goes from 'baby-talk' to asking personal and philosophical questions and stays within the personality you've described relating to you.
If you purchase-DO WEB RESEARCH!!I was doing fantastic-and then he quit eating-no reason-he just stopped.I felt cheated. That's my only gripe about a truly unique item.
Seaman is Cool. I just wish it talked longer.

This game is great. It's rated teen (because some parts are not suitable for kids and some very little bad language) I like to talk A LOT but Seaman doesn't. It only talks for 5-10 min. I hope they will make a sequel where it reads data from the other game and you talk to your Frogman more. Cause one they are Frogmen they only say a few things and never talk again. When I want to talk to my Frogmen they always say that they'll talk again tomorrow but they don't. I got left with two Frogmen. I don't knew why because I herd you only should have one left. At 1st when I started my game Seaman died because there wasn't enough food. If you are planning to get the game here are some tips. Too make your baby mushroomers grow faster tap the glass till the weird squid thing eats them all. Wait a little while and you'll have Seaman that are kids now. Don't feed the Seaman kids cause they feed on each other. When you only have two Seaman left that's when you need to feed them. But only if they say they are hungry. When you get the other tank with bugs keep the moisture level up to 100 by using the spray. Don't feed Seaman the bugs till all the food is gone. (Don't feed Seaman spiders, it will kill him) Well I hope this review helps. :)
great; read and review!

Sure, this game is cool. I Mean, you get to talk to a fish type human thing. That's cool. THIS GAME IS WAY OVERRATED. I loved it the first 2 weeks, when Seaman would ask me questions and get to know me. It never realized to me though that he would only ask me about 5-10 minutes worth of stuff a day and then say "we'll talk more tomorrow". Sure.. what are friends for? Let's just put it off for tomorrow. A lot of times they'd not even understand me. Then there's the problem of this game lasting about two weeks and then it's all over and your seaman is in a new environment and he really has nothing to say to you. It did make me cry when my first seaman died in order to keep his species going. It also made me cry when my last Seaman finally got out and he gave me this long speech about our friendship. He's witty and all. Think of it like this: how would you like it if you got a new best friend in two that you could tell anything and not worry about being abused (well, not that much, at least). Then imagine that same friend leaving you right after you having to get used to him. I heard there might be an observation kit coming out. Why should I Keep waiting money on this? I mean, video games don't come cheap. It's worth a rent or a borrow from friends for a week or so, but afterwards, it's almost worthless.
