I love you Seaman

Like others here have already said- this game isn't for everyone. In fact, it's only for a select few gamers- the kind that are looking for new and strange things. It's cool that Sega never cares about money, and is always the one company we can count on for innovation. It's just too bad that they never get the credit they deserve. Sega's always been ahead of their time, as we saw with the Dreamcast.

Anyway, I love this "game". When I first got it when it came out, I wasn't really sure what to expect. You actually do take on the role of a scientist, creating life before your very eyes. You start out with an empty tank, and an egg + some food pellets in your inventory. Place the egg in the tank, and set the heat to 19.9 (under 20 at least), and the oxygen all the way up. After a few minutes, the egg hatches, and you get mushroomers. Soon after, the natilus starts moving, and eats your mushroomers. Make sure that it leaves at least one alive. Try tapping on the glass away from the natilus to draw the mushroomer(s) closer to you. After a few minutes, the natilus comes out of its shell and dies. Now, you have Seamen.

Yeah, I bet that sounds boring to you. For the first 2-3 days, you teach Seaman small words (like "hello", "afternoon", "seaman", etc.), but the baby Seamen start killing eachother, and you're left with two. As they grow up, their voices become very deep and cool. Seaman is quite the scholar. He'll ask you questions about your life and what you like whenever you talk to him. Of course, you can only put in 15 hours of gameplay a day, and you'll be doing just fine...as your talk sessions don't last that long. They're more of a Q&A. But that's ok, I enjoyed the responses Seaman gave me. When I told him my birthday, he told me that I share it with Elizabeth Hurley and a few other cool celebrities. Thanks Seaman!

The voice recognition isn't as bad as people say. As long as you speak clearly and not too fast, Seaman should be able to understand most of the things you say to him. Please give Seaman a chance, he's a good guy. And you'll be sad to let him go in the end.

seaman is great!

this game is really fun. it's kinda like a sim mixed with a giga pet. you feed it , raise it, take care of it, and of course, talk to it. yes, some of the time the words are missunderstood, but if you talk loud and clearly enough, it's just fine.

It's Great the First Few Times......... (3.5 stars)

....but after you've beat it and played it a couple times, it gets really old very quickly. But, this game is %100 original! A very unique and cool concept. I just think more could've been done to keep the replay value up a bit.

The graphics: Amazing
The sound: Very good
Concept: Out of this world!
Replay Value: Gets boring after you play it enough

So the only reason why I'm giving this 3.5 stars instead of 4 is because, let's face it, it can get old very quickly. Plus, you have to have A LOT of free time to keep him alive!!! I used to have that time in high school, but now starting my second semester at college, well.....time isn't as free any more.

It's a game that should be checked out, though. Just be warned, you might get bored with it real quick. I thought it was the greatest game at first, but then it seemed like nothing new happens. Once you beat it, that's it. Replay value is the only major flaw with the game.

If you have the time allowable-this is an intriguing game-and Leonard Nimoy narrating adds to the bizzarre scenario.
Yes,the plot is raising a very intelligent human/fish hybrid. After the first week-it goes from 'baby-talk' to asking personal and philosophical questions and stays within the personality you've described relating to you.
If you purchase-DO WEB RESEARCH!!I was doing fantastic-and then he quit eating-no reason-he just stopped.I felt cheated. That's my only gripe about a truly unique item.

my brother liked it

I got this for my brother for Christmas, and he enjoyed countless hours with the game. He likes games like Sim City a lot, games that you build up with patience. I would only recommend this to someone who has a high attention span, but if you do then you should enjoy this revolutionary game.

Seaman is alright, but has quite a few cons!

I would not recommend buying this game [for] however much it is (sorry, Amazon! :-) But it's an alright game for a few days. Actually, it got very boring...if you're in to the who Feng Shui thing, I would recommend putting it in the corner where the water is supposed to flow to "bring the cash in!" But, other than that... At first, you're stuck with all these little fish lookin' guys with the weirdest faces. Some of the things they say are cute, but after they say them about a million times, they just get plain annoying. (I found out though, that if you say "distinguish" or "Please speak in English" in the game, the "Seaman" will reply in English.) If you are a protective parent, I would not get this game. The Seaman does say some pretty bad words...and it's like a virtual pet...why, just today when I was playing, both of the seamen I had wouldn't talk to me; they just signified that they were very angry with me...WeIrD! Besides, the Seaman hardly understands you half of the time, even if you articulate clearly...and it's a very hard game to keep your patience with. If you get bored watching the same thing all the time, don't get this. Unfortunately, it's too late for me, and I just set the dreamcast one day ahead when I want the game to progress faster. So, in a nutshell, this game is alright, but the whole voice recignition thing has a few bugs to work out and...unappropriate...material in it... Get it if you want to, but I wouldn't buy a game like this for that price. (Again, sorry, Amazon! I do love your store!)

Seaman is Cool. I just wish it talked longer.

This game is great. It's rated teen (because some parts are not suitable for kids and some very little bad language) I like to talk A LOT but Seaman doesn't. It only talks for 5-10 min. I hope they will make a sequel where it reads data from the other game and you talk to your Frogman more. Cause one they are Frogmen they only say a few things and never talk again. When I want to talk to my Frogmen they always say that they'll talk again tomorrow but they don't. I got left with two Frogmen. I don't knew why because I herd you only should have one left. At 1st when I started my game Seaman died because there wasn't enough food. If you are planning to get the game here are some tips. Too make your baby mushroomers grow faster tap the glass till the weird squid thing eats them all. Wait a little while and you'll have Seaman that are kids now. Don't feed the Seaman kids cause they feed on each other. When you only have two Seaman left that's when you need to feed them. But only if they say they are hungry. When you get the other tank with bugs keep the moisture level up to 100 by using the spray. Don't feed Seaman the bugs till all the food is gone. (Don't feed Seaman spiders, it will kill him) Well I hope this review helps. :)

great; read and review!

Sure, this game is cool. I Mean, you get to talk to a fish type human thing. That's cool. THIS GAME IS WAY OVERRATED. I loved it the first 2 weeks, when Seaman would ask me questions and get to know me. It never realized to me though that he would only ask me about 5-10 minutes worth of stuff a day and then say "we'll talk more tomorrow". Sure.. what are friends for? Let's just put it off for tomorrow. A lot of times they'd not even understand me. Then there's the problem of this game lasting about two weeks and then it's all over and your seaman is in a new environment and he really has nothing to say to you. It did make me cry when my first seaman died in order to keep his species going. It also made me cry when my last Seaman finally got out and he gave me this long speech about our friendship. He's witty and all. Think of it like this: how would you like it if you got a new best friend in two that you could tell anything and not worry about being abused (well, not that much, at least). Then imagine that same friend leaving you right after you having to get used to him. I heard there might be an observation kit coming out. Why should I Keep waiting money on this? I mean, video games don't come cheap. It's worth a rent or a borrow from friends for a week or so, but afterwards, it's almost worthless.

Seaman is a very cool game. I was very excited when seaman talked back, but three days later I got bored. He don't really likes to talk he always talk about the old stuff over and over again VERY VERY bossy. I suggest you rent this game for few day, it's not worth to buy it.
