You are the leader of a nation to conquer the world. You decide where to spend your money, you decide who will be your allies and enemies, you decide how to treat your civilians, and you decide how to attack and defend with your army, which you have created within minutes, yet years have since passed. You send your daughter out to marry some bum you've never met before out of greed and security, you order assassins to kill the leaders of the intimidating army, and you order a troop of cavalry to hide in the trees only to await the perfect time to surprise the enemy from behind. If you like strategy and control...If you want to play a different game other than those Age of Empires and Warcraft like renditions, this is perfect for you. You will not be disappointed whatsoever.

If its performance you want, this isn't it!!!

The demo played great on my system, so without much thought I bought the game. Big mistake, I am unable to play much of the game due to lack of playability because of poor performance. I meet all of the sytem requirements by leaps and bounds, but because of poor support from Activision and depths of the problems the game came shipped with I would wait before you buy. I am hoping this is merely a WIndows XP issue with the game engine and a patch will fix it, so hopefully Activision can get on the ball and get it done. I should have bought Battlefield 1942.

Terrible, terrible, terrible waste of time

I would rate it zero stars, but there is no such option. Just as you are about to conquer the world, almost every single provence revolts. Even if you have two spies in every provence. Any loyalty of above 150. Even if the enemy king is 78 years old, and all of his fellow horse men have been killed, he can rout 240 archers that have him surrounded, then kill your 30 something year old king and his three fellow knights. The game has internal logic but it stacks the odds against you in ways that are oddly illogical. It is just a frustrating game.

the first time i bought this, it didn't work (bad cd). after trying everything activision's tech support suggested (to no avail), i exchanged it and got another copy. the new one worked great, and i have not been seen by the rest of the world since!!!

Fun, for a while...

when i bought this game i thought i was getting a fun "total war" game. The game actually is turn based?!?! but when u engage in combat it goes into rts. The graphics suck and the game is so unrealistic and way to easy. i took down over 1000 units with 60 of my own. If u want a good game go pick up Empire Earth 2 a worthy sequel to number 1.

Medieval Total War

This is a great game following in the footsteps of Shogun Total War. It combines all the best of Shogun with many new features such as unit sizes are now determined by the amount of armor or resources needed for each type of unit instead of having everything be the same size and the use of governors. This series may become one of the best series out there. It certainly has the potential to be. The only two things i can hope for are for the release of a GunAge Total War and maybe a board game for the strategic level of either game that you could then play the board game and resolve your battles with the actual Shogun tactical game instead of dice.

Just an awesome game

When I bought this game I didn't know what to expect, I never played Shogun so this was a new experience. I was half expecting Europa Universalis 1 or 2 with a cross of Braveheart.... what I got was a unique game that is fun to play, offers a challenge unto itself and is rather simple to play. The graphics are alright, I think they could have spruced up the battlefields a little more, made the characters look better and all but that is made up for in the fact that the controls are easy but the system is indepth.

I'm not going to say that there is nothing wrong with the game, it needs a patch out.... it seems to crash a bit, but the autosave feature helps out with that..... and the pope seems only to excommunicate my country, even if I am attacking to retaliate and save a region of mine from a seige, but my trusty assassin takes care of that for me.

All in all, a great game..... maybe not for kids though.

the best real time war game ever

Explosive, enveloping, massive, inconceivable, no, these adjectives do not begin to come close to the majesty that is Total War (Medieval), the second incarnation of the Total War Engine, Medieval brings it with a vengeance, sieges, historical detail, role playing, realism, all are accounted for. There is quite simply nothing wrong with this game. If you love wargames, you will love Medieval. It is simple.

Bravo to the Total War team, at least one company is paying attention to the real wargamer.

An Easy Game That Will Keep You Addicted

This game is awesome! You do need a good machine. A little bit over the minimum requirements will play the game good (unlike Battlefield: 1942 where over the recommended requirement will play the game slow). Medieval Total War is so real! You choose from over 12 empires and conqure lands and improve your lands to make a strong military or for other purposes. It simple to get used to. Just read the 77 page manual and do the training and after one campaign, you'll be a master at this game. And its not all stradgy. There a lot of action. This is a must get game!
