I ALMOST WET MYSELF ON CERTAIN OCCASIONS. IT IS A GOOD THING I WENT TO THE BATHROOM BEFORE I STARTED TO PLAY. WHEN YOU PLAY, YOU HAVE TO TURN OUT ALL THE LIGHTS, PLAY ALONE, AND PLAY AT NIGHT. HOWEVER, IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU CANNOT JUMP! SOMTIMES THE GAME IS PREDICTABLE,BUT AREN'T MOVIES THE SAME WAY? (EXCEPT FOR ARLINGTON ROAD!) I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE DAY COMES WHEN GAMES ARE MORE INTERACTIVE. IN CONCLUSION,OVERALL,THE GAME IS GREAT. IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT,GET IT!!
Don't trust me ...

Don't trust anyone.... that's what you have to do when you play this game. People around you can be whatever you don't want them to be. This game is a mixing of silent hill and resident evil, so if you like those games 'The Thing" surely is the next one for you . Graphic and gameplay are great as usual , but it's abit too short . however, it's good ! it'll keep you busy for days (^_^)

This game is awesome i have the game and i havn't beat it yet but the beginning is horrifying two marines get swallowed by a big alien thing and the new trust/scared mode is cool because when one of your marine partners think there all bad they see a dead body and freak out and you have to give him medicine to calm him down there is soo much to talk about this game but i give this sweeet game 5 stars for being scary, realistic, and being the sequal to "the thing" the movie.

If you thought the movie was over..... think again the horror on "The thing" the movie is just the beginning. Now in 2002 they made the movie game which is "The thing 2" this game takes off just after the first movie. I don't want to spoil the game for yall but dont be thinking that the movie had hardcore mutated monsters in it.play the game and you'll see the daddy of all the monsters in the game or is it a game its more reality when you play.I give it 5 stars for being soo cool and being the sequal to the best alien movies ever made.
Violent, intense, puzzle-solving action!

The Thing, if you don't already know, is based on the 1982 film by John Carpenter. The film has been dubbed the title of the goriest (if you will) movie ever made. The game, however not THE goriest game ever made (one example of a game gorier than The Thing is Resident Evil: Code Veronica X), this game is EXTREMELY violent. Take a true gamer's opinion: this game definitely earned its 'M' rating.
With the "Not for children w/ queasy stomachs" factor out of the way, lets get to the game:
1) Graphics-8.5
2) Gameplay-9.0
3) Controls-7.5
4) Story-(although unoriginal by today's standards)9.5
5) Overall-9.0
This game is an incredible one. From blowing off heads w/ a sniper rifle, to torching Thing beasts w/ a flamethrower, this game will provide you with a nonstop adrenaline rush. In addition, puzzles are added to balance the game a bit. Some require the simple resupply of power to a fuse box, while others require more strategic and complex thinking. Think of it like this: Resident Evil (any) with better controls, better weapons, and a lot more actual fighting (the RE series focuses more around puzzles than gunfights).
This game, although long, can be completed within 1 or 2 rentals. I would not recommend buying this game unless you are a diehard fan of The Thing, or you just need some variety in you game collection.
A fun game, with two problems that tick me off.

Dont get me wrong, The Thing is a fun game and does justice to the movie. But there is one thing that really pisses me off. That being the fact that every single person that is supposedly on your team is really the thing. I know some should be scripted but I am talking about everyone you find(with the exception of two guys that get blowed up, and two that get shot-Pierce and Faraday.) I have heard this refered to as a glitch and it will annoy the heck out of you. For instance you can blood test someone, then five seconds later he will turn into the Thing. You also know that you can only have one of each type of person(soldier, medic, and engineer.) If you ever find two people with the same designation then you know that one of them is about to turn. There is also huge Plot holes that if filled could have made this a five star game in my book. Plot holes including, what happened to your original team, and four people get on an elevator and 3 get off(little things that add up)
Now dont get me wrong, this is a fun game(i wish i could give it a 3and1/2 stars because it aint bad enough for 3 but not good enough for 4)if you can overlook the so called glitch, and some of the plot holes, this game will occupy horror fans till the end.
Da Game!!!

There are a lot of good things about the Thing, but there are also quite a few blunders. First off the game feels rushed, there is so much about it that lacks polish or feels looked over. The boss battles for instance just feel thrown together. The design of the boss "things" look nice, but there is very little action in fighting them. Plus they are hard! They aren't hard in the challenging sense, they are hard in the cheap/unfair sense. It could be that I am playing the game horribly, but I don't think so. Being hit by a boss the second I enter a room with zero reaction time is just plain cheap. My main problem about this game is, Cheap Deaths!!!! There are just so many! Possibly more cheap hits then deaths though. Coming in contact with a small fire seems to take a large chunk of your life away, which is just as frusterating as can be. Also the control is a little sluggish and the control layout can be confusing during stressful situations. There were also times where the game would freeze up on me, usually at the worst possible times to. That made me very unhappy. It's mostly just filled with bugs like that, they don't really ruin the game, they just make you want to smash the controller against the wall. But enough bad stuff. I really did like this game, despite the three star rating. The graphics (while not up to current PS2 standards) for the most part are good, there aren't any eyesores in the game, but nothing to really get excited about either. The blood effects and all the gore look really good though, plus a great looking head shot effect. The voice acting is good with excessive profanity and all. Having a squad to control is great, though you are alone sometimes. They can prove to be very helpful, though it's kind of a bummer to watch them mutate. It's great to have NPC help, but sometimes they can be way to dumb! Sometimes they just get stuck on a box or will just stand there when they are supposed to follow you. They are good when it comes to fighting though. There are some great action scenes in the game. A lot of the time it can make your heart race while fighting off hordes of 'thing' things. To sum it up, the game is just really cool. Though, with a little more time in development it could have been far better, which is a little disapointing. Fans of the movie should check it out, it is pretty faithful to the movies atmosphere. Otherwise rent it.
There is NO ENDING!

I have NEVER felt this betrayed by a video game in a long time. I have been a huge fan of the John Carpenter film THE THING since 1982. Hearing that this game was a direct sequel to the film and having read some favorable reviews, I had high hopes for this game. The game does deliver on many fronts (good story, cool NPC who responded in a realistic manner, great sound, creepy monsters, swearing and the CONTROL THE FEAR feature. On the down side, the game is ridiculously hard at times and can be very frustrating so I recommend using the AUTO AIM feature or you will never make it! which brings me to my BIGGEST gripe of all. After struggling for far to long to beat this game, I get to the final boss monster fight only to have it just end abruptly and cut to the credits! WHERE IS THE ENDING????!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable! There is no closure to this thing! (no pun intended) It's like reading a great book only to get to the end of it and you find the final pages have been ripped out! I can't BELIEVE the makers worked so hard to make the game so well in so many areas but could'nt write a simple story segment to finalize the story & justify all the time I just WASTED playing the game??!! AARRGGHH!! Where is my flame thrower so I can melt this damn game and my PS2? I recommend this to HARD CORE THING fans only.
(Ocobter 2007) After I posted the above review, I did replay the end of the game and there WAS and ending cut scene after all! I must've hit a button and skipped over it the first time I played. Now I really like the game and take back my above comments!
Frustrating

I've only been playing this game two nights and I'm ready to just give up on it. All I do is run around and die. And when I complete an objective and get to the next part, I soon die again and have to start over at the last save point. I don't mind a challenge, but I at least like it to be fun and rewarding.
