there is no better, or more experienced flight sim maker than microsoft...if your looking for a great flight sim that is realistic in both graphics and airplane dynamics than this is your flight sim. The only quibbles i have is that they took away the Concorde and that they didnt add the second most popular aircraft in the world, first before the 737, the 727. But those are minor and the 747 more than makes up for them....Enjoy flying!!
you'll get no closer to real flying without a CFI along.

I've been a student pilot for ~25 hours now and a flight sim fan since the '80s, so I think I have some perspective when I say that there is no better simulation of the experience of flight available for a personal computer. Every aspect of modern general aviation is covered:
- preflight warmup; run the checklist for real, everything you need to do as a pilot is represented.
- ATC. As is well documented elsewhere, the ATC is a great element and completes the picture of what it means to be a pilot, communicating with approach and tower control and flying in busy skies. Part of the ATC experience is the AI traffic; the skies over busy airports are jammed with arrivals and departures, and aftermarket modifications can actually model real airlines and their timetables. I fly out of KMDW, and in FS2K2 I jockey for runway 31C with Southwest, ATA, and Northwest birds. Simply awesome.
- Flight model and graphics. You really can fly VFR (by visual reference to landmarks, etc) and the base Cessna Skyhawk flies quite a bit like the real thing. It's helpful to spend good money on a control wheel and rudder pedals for maximum versimilitude, but that's not a requirement.
- Aftermarket expandability. Add scenery, aircraft, even traffic timetables using the dozens of tools and hundreds of great examples provided by the active user community. The fun really begins when you start to tailor your copy to match your interest in flight.
What else can I say? Oh yeah: get a fast machine. You're gonna kick yourself after your first taste if you can't jack the detail settings to full power. 2GHz processor and a current generation ATI 9500/NVidia 4600Ti highly recommended.

Vaporware is how people refer to software that is promised .... but never appears on the shelves on time. Vapor Reviews should be the term used to apply to people that write reviews of software that has not been released. FS2002 won't be available for 'real' reviews for another two months. Don't trust vapor reviews any more than you'd trust vaporware.
Simply the Best!

I just can't explain to you how this game will change your life if you're really crazy (like me) about aviation and enjoy flying in a virtual sky. This game have everything you need to get there. With over 15 aircrafts ranging from the Boeing 747-400 to Cessna 172 Skyhawk, you'll be able to fly anywhere, anytime. Interactive ATC guides you to your destination when you file an IFR flight plan, so you don't have to spend time calculating distances and all those stuff. Comprehensive and very interactive lessons help those people who are new to learn how to fly quickly and proficiently. Amazing sceneries over major cities like New York, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Seattle (the most detailed), Las Vegas, London, Paris etc. The AI aircraft keep your company while in the air, they fly pretty much like the real thing. Also, you'll be able to start at the gate, which also features the all new jetways (docking system), and taxiways around every airport worldwide. This game will definetly keep you from getting bored. Whether you're an expert at flightsim or a beginner, you'll be able to fly and have fun with FS2002. A nice computer will help improve frame rate, I would recommend at least 128 MB of RAM. And also, with the new Cessna 206 Floatplane, you can land on every lakes, rivers, oceans, ponds on earth! There's lots of more features to this game, and I can assure you, you won't be dissapointed.

WOW! Throw away FS2000 right now and order 2002. The newer, cooler, more exciting version has tons of new features. The AutoGEN technology is fantastic. The scenery really comes to life in this version. The ATC is awesome too! I know most of the Flight Simmers I know could care less about following the regulations of flight, but the ATC integration is awesome for people practicing true-to-life flying. This simulation is excellent. Microsoft really did it this time!

Having been an avid flight sim'r and a pilot for many years, FS2002 pro edition is by far the best sim out on the market, bar none. When I am unable to fly in real time, I get my computer cranked up and practice ILS,NDB, VOR,etc, approaches. I am still amazed how close this sim gets to the real deal. Downloading real-time wx to accomplish any simulated instrument flying makes the experience far more interesting and challenging. BRAVO to MS for the intenese attention to detail in making such a fine product. Now, if they spent as much time on the combat sims, they would dominate the market!
I have flown the beta version many times

Having flown all of Microsoft's Flight simulators all the way up to FS2002 beta, I can honestly say that FS2002 seems to be the best. I like the auto-gen scenery, works great.
WX is nice, but seemed to be overly sensitive when flying thru areas of changing WX.
I was not happy with the scenery along coastlines that I have seen. it's not as good as in FS2000, although I'm guessing that this has something to do with being a beta version. I added on Eddie Denney's mesh scenery and it worked alright except for shorelines... seems that the base scenery and mesh terrain didnt find common boundaries. But it worked well otherwise.
I liked the ability to land on the water, however the spray patterns and aircraft performance on the water needs to be improved. Ability to use full up elevator to get up on step would be neat, as well as blowing spray on take-off.
I have lived around seaplanes all of my life and have spent thousands of hours in & around many seaplanes, this sim needs some work there.
I look forward to adding DF's 737 and PSS's 744 and 772 as well as other high quality aircraft. AS well as other high level sceneries, this should be a treat.
OVERALL FS2002 IS GREAT ***** Thanks! ***** MS GREAT JOB!!!!

This is the all time best flight simulator ever available to the public. As a pilot, it helps me train for flights, and recaps some things that I learned in flight school 13 years ago. As a current pilot flying the well-known Boeing 737-300 (like on the sim), I have got to say that it is highly detailed when it comes to the flight deck. It shows all the intruments used in flight, and gives a 180 degree view of the flight deck, as if I was turning my head. If you are interested in aviation, or are just a flight sim maniac, I highly recommend that you purchase this program. Not to mention interactive ATC!
A great game but..................

WHERE IS THE CONCORDE?!!
This is a great improvement over Flight simulator 2000 but tragically the Concorde is no longer available.(I am well aware of the tragidy of the Air France Concorde). Never the less it is a great improvement.
I will now tell you the impovements.
Small houses now appears now in the city. That makes the city "stand" out making it more lively and not flat.
There is now detailed airplanes EVERYWHERE in FS2002 making you less lonely in th skies (there is more traffic at major airports
such as JFK or O'Hare International airports)
Also there is an air traffic control system in which you can talk to.
The only draw back is that you need a very Good System. I hope you enjoy it.

Well what can i say that hasnt been said before? This is probably the best game ive ever bought, in fact it encouraged me to learn how to fly for real and when i got in the real cessna I knew all the gauges and controls. It is no boast when they say as real as it gets. I now use it to practice my lessons on and it hasnt let me down yet but if you do buy it I recommend also buying yoke and pedals for the most realism. Which sadly can prove a bit costly but its a one off payment for many hours enjoyment both on your own and with others online. Well worth it in my eyes
