Best computer game ever.

Let me start off this review by saying that I absolutely DESPISE all computer and video games. I think that they exist merely to waste people's time, which can be wasted in much better ways.

Sim City 2000 is one of the few exceptions to this rule.

It enables you to build virtual cities on your computer. You can engineer your own landscape and use the Urban Renewal kit to design new buildings and place them wherever you wish. The other two SimCity games are slightly flawed. This one is the best, with three-dimentional, yet simple graphics and lots of interesting ways to plan out your city. It may be highly addictive, but at least you're thinking about something other than killing people.

This is worth much more than its price.

GREAT CITY SIM!

Great Game! At first when I got this game for my birthday I found it hard to play. However, the 2nd time I played it I looked at the clock and it said 2pm, then so it seemed looking at the clock a hour later it was 8pm. Missing time? NO! Just a fun time playing this game.

NOTE: Don't cut down the 100% on the guy who complains about the roads, if you do the roads a building fall apart fast.

Object of the game: To find out the mystery of Sim! Earn lots of money to build up your citys.

I sure liked SIM by Electronic Arts for my birthday! "Sim City 2000" would be a sure gift for a frend of yours who is interested in games!

Good game

I bought this game because it was on sale for about $10 at Staples. I don't regret buying it, but after a while it gets boring. They don't have many things to build with and the people are always complaining about everything. Sometimes i just flood the place and build a new city. The abandoned buildings are an eyesore so I usually end up deystroying them. Then when you go to clean up the ashes, it costs like $1 per little square. They only start you with $20,000 on the easy level. I would suggest going into the urban city rebuilder and building your city there and then importing it to the game. You save a lot of money that way and you can design the land to be a valley or a hill without all the expense. All in all, a good game.

A gem, if you have a bit of patience...

I own the first three Sim City games, so when I got this one, I was used to playing the first Sim City, so I struggled with the interface changes and new additions. But when I began to be successful, I started to really love the funny newspapers, rewards, and other good things, so I am a convert. It's a shame that SimCity 3000 failed to compel me half as much. Buy this one and abort your search for fancy graphics: once you master this game, you won't care that they aren't in crisp 3D.

Incredible!

Sim City 2000 is a great game for anyone who wants a challenge and of course a ton of FUN!! In this game you are the mayor and you control the fate of your city. You build the roads, power plant(s), and other special buildings, do the zoning, and let the Sims do the rest. However disasters do happen. So be on the alert! Tornadoes, earthquakes and much more can decimate your city! HERE ARE SOME HELPFUL HINTS AND SECRETS FOR YOU:

1) When building roads make the area within them 6x6. Sims like to be three spaces or less away from roads on all sides of them.

2) When zoning put industrial at least three spaces away from residencial. Hey, would you like living nextdoor to a noisy, smelly, smokey factory? Well I sure wouldn't!!

3) If you don't want disasters to happen to your city, simply click on the "Disasters" bar at the top of the screen and select "No Disasters."

4) Finally, if you want to know the ultimate code then hear this: All you have to do is type in the letters: imacheat

Ah, SimCity 2000 ... the SimCity of my youth. This was one of my greatest procrastination techniques in high school. I distinctly recall playing it when I should have been working on papers and college applications. This game gives the player a great degree of control - landscaping, zoning, building. It does not focus on individual Sims, as the later versions do, but its less complicated nature is refreshing. It works well on Windows XP; I installed it last year, and now all my (adult) friends want to play too!

A True Classic

SimCity 2000 has features that the other SimCity titles do not.

Sure, the graphics will be forever dated and the title is old, but it is still a classic and worthy of a purchase today. (I saw one on sale in the Wal-Mart bargain bin for $10.)

The reasons it is valuable today for SimCity fans today is twofold.

First, the unique features the other SimCity titles don't have. There is one archetecture type called the Arcology, and there are four types of buildings, each with its own pros and cons. The Arcologies are basically massive population density centers (that only take up a 4x4 tilespace) that can hold between 20,000 and 65,000 residents in them.

When the time period and city size requirements have been met, these expensive buildings obviously will shoot your city's population up dramatically. Of course, the City Ordinance levying an Income Tax males sense here to bring in more dough, and you definitely need to provide utilities and jobs to these new, squinched residents.

Another unique SimCity 2000 feature is the budget specialization you can perform: tax rates for individual industries (considering market supply and demand) and ordinances.

The second reason why SimCity 2000 is a valuable video game way up to now (Year 2007) is its convenience. The price tag and game play requirements are now universally accepted by everyone. Also, the SCURK (SimCity Urban Renewal Kit) allows for the customization of your city's landscape and buildings, and often times is as addictive as the game itself.

Sure, SimCity 2000 doesn't hold a candle to SimCity 3000 Unlimited or SimCity 4, but it will be a welcome edition to any Sim fan until the end of time. (Like the song "My Girl" by the Temptations - it will FOREVER be a good song for any generation.)

Extremely dated but great vintage value!

I still come back to this game from time to time considering the immensely complex scope of the newest SC 4 game released recently.

I have such great memories of this game when I got in during Christmas of 1998 and played it for a long time afterwards and for most of that time, it was the most state of the art computer game that was ever created at least at that point in time.

In this game, you zone out the tiles of land for industial, commercial and residential development and manage your city's progress from a small unincorporated village into a thriving metropolis or town if you don't want it big. The game is incredibly simple compared to the newest reincarnation of the game saga.

This game is extremely dated today but tack in 1994 through late 1998, this game to me was the 'game of the future;! The graphics are quite low on detail and almost look silly by todays standards. The water pumps for example look more like pacifiers than real water pumps. The railroads are also a bit questionable by today's standards because although it makes it a lot easier to play, the railroads can be built at ninety degree angles, something that is impossible with real traintracks which can bend maybe no more than like 10 degrees. At the same time, it's quite entertaining just to see the freight trains pass the ninety degree bends with no problems at all.

This game holds a special place in my life not just because I played it so much but also because it was the game that brought the whole Simcity Saga into my life and is the grandfather of the simcity games. It's definatety a keeper just for it's vintage value and the memories that it holds for me.

A true classic in every way. This game is the grandfather of the Simcity Saga at least for me it is.

Brings back memories...

Among my many childhood memories, one of my most cherished ones was going to my aunts house to play on her computer (the only one I have seen at the time besides my other aunts and uncles) Sim City 2000. I loved the game and we'd spend hours playing it. 7-8 years later and 20 years old, I still appreciate the game and remember those days at my aunts house. Soon we got a computer and I got Sim City 2000 and it wore of it's affect because I finally got a computer and the game and I don't remember much palying the game after I got it. But like I said, I remember playing it my aunts house and I cherished those now as an adult as I play this game that introduced me to computers and video games.

Being such a landmark in computer gaming and as many other people share fond memories with the game as do I, earns this game classic status. Game sof today being shallow and repetative can't hardly compare to the classics that helped pioneered what would become a boom indsutry.

I am a tester for maxis and EA
