I am a Simaddict.
I know what it is like to stay up until three or four in the morning downloading the perfect skins, creating children, and attempting to get abducted.
Bottom line: no Playstation version of the Sims comes remotely close to the addictive fun of the computer version.
The freedom is gone.
In Computer Sims, part of the fun is that you are like the SIM'S G-d but in this you are so very limited.
I don't like it
I don't recommend it.
If it's a gift...eBay it, or regift it to someone you are not so fond of.
In the Minority....I liked it!

After hating the game for about 2 days, after I played it for awhile, I started to actually like it. I'm glad now that I gave it a chance.
There are a few things that would make the game a little bit better. I enjoyed the family aspect of the previous game - here you can still get married (to multiple partners no less - bigamy anyone?), but you CANNOT have children. I see this question asked in many forums on the net. I missed this a bit, but then after I was moving on in the game and working on controlling 6 sims at once, I was happy not to have the little rugrats running around.
You now have recipe's to learn and unlock by studying cookbooks, reading magazines while on the toliet, watching the food channel, and even while mixing the ingredients yourself. You can get ingredients by purchasing a more expensive refridgerator, buying a fruit tree, a vegetable garden, an aquarium (and eating your little pet fish - ack!), digging around in your yard with your metal detector, and even purchasing a couch that you water and then dig around in the cushions. One annoying problem is when making group meals, I've had them just disappear on me without even getting a bite. It doesn't matter how many people are in the house. If I haven't cooked in a while, I will often just make several roasts and vegetables, then I get somthing to eat.
The aspiration meter took a bit of getting used to. I did better once I figured out to just keep checking their wants and paying special attention to the ones in the gold background. It gets a little tiring when things continue to come up that are impossible to do or that I have already done. Buy a computer? Already have 2 (have to keep selling them and buying them again). Get kidnapped by aliens, and find a comet? I have spent so much time on that dang telescope that I should have found something by now. Got my skills all the way to 10, and still nothing. When I finally opened location #4 - the yacht, I had the want of helping Betty Buttercup to Marry Captain Nelson, and I had already married them off. Ditto with Helga and Red S. (here I found that I had revived her, and had them up to 100 with each other, but I was not friends with Helga - got to be friends with her, and problem solved). I also had a few wants come up that weren't unlocked yet in my buy mode - had to wait for the metal detector to open up, and the fire extingusher (and then they were in wierd places - appliances, etc.).
There are a few new people/places to call on the phone, but I miss being able to purchase a pizza or some chinese food. You can call the therapist which is suppossed to generate some new wants, but doesn't always work.
Making friends is a bit harder as you can never tell how they are going to recieve what you are doing. You can compliment them one time, then again and get different results. I've found that purchasing a hot tub and talking to them while relaxing in it can get a friendship going. Also making them meals, and dining together. Adding some passionfruit to the ingredients in any meal can make the little hearts fly, but this doesn't last for long, and make sure that everyone has used the potty and has rested up before you get started.
Couches are nice for power naps, and the expresso machine works better in the energy department this time around also! You can even hit the select button to change to classic mode and pile up the commands.
The social minded sims can be a bit of a pain. I don't find their weeping around very cute at all. Having them call a friend on the phone (watch the time - their friends don't appreciate a 2 a.m. phone call) or going to the computer to chat with them can make their social go up fairly well. Trying to socialize with them (unless you are really good friends already) does little on console them. Ack!
Another plus about Sims 2 is that you can go back to any house you have already lived in/finished and live there again. Your carpool will arrive wherever you are and you can get promotions from any location. This helped when I needed a break from running the lives of 6 sims, or when I needed money, or just some me time to concentrate on my skills or a promotion.
The fire code is a bit of a pain in the arse, I feel that if you can afford something, you should be able to buy it and enjoy it without seeing a bunch of things go up in smoke. Now you have to have a fire alarm in every room for the fireman to come or call him on the phone (good luck getting him to come in time), though the security alarm works in multiple rooms.
Changing clothes is a bit of a drag. It is hard to see what anything looks like without having your sim try them on - then there isn't much you can do with them. The clothes really need some work.
My son was disappointed that he couldn't turn his sim into a ghost. It isn't as easy as the instructions make it sound.
So while I didn't like this Sims 2 as much as The Sims or The Sims Bustin' Out, It was more enjoyable than The Urbz. :o) I haven't tried the PC version (which is probably why I liked this version) as I need to clear a bit of space for it, but it is nice to know that they are so different that it will be like having another Sims game to enjoy.
Still a fan!

Sims 2 on playstation has promise, but I think the game makers held back with this game. I was looking for more than what this game had to offer. I loved The Sims Bustin Out and The Sims Urbz so much I was looking forward to the Sims 2 on playstation. It doesn't really fair as well with Bustin out and The Urbz. I hope there's another playstation Sims on the way with a lot more to offer. The graphics are really good, of course, but the gameplay itself is frustrating and slow.
true totally different

I'm agreeing with Linda who previously wrote in. It's interesting to see - I have Sims2 for PC and Playstation, and I liked the PC one better too, however, with that said, and if you approch this as a completely seperate game it's fun. It's a strange this going on at Maxis, Gameboy, PC, and Playstation each have a totally and I mean totally different game by the same title - Sims bustin out, Sims2, etc. Very odd. I didn't expect that either. The only way to play these is to realize none of them are the same at all. I liked the PC version more too, but this one is enjoyable to me as well, but not the same game at all. Same deal with the Gameboys, all Sim games totally different. Interesting choice on the maker part. But, hey Maxis, keep em coming, I like all of them, but it takes some getting used to for sure. . . also I had to find a walkthru on yahoo. I wish they sold the book, because on this one for playstation there is a "correct" way to do things.

I thought this game was great compared to the first sim console game, I was playing the free play mode there, that is, when I was assuming that it was wonderful, why did maxis take away the mother and knack of moving in with your "friend" other than "living with roommates" is this a down house or what? I want the mom back!
There is not much in the create-a-sim opition, you can make the eyes more arched, the nose more longer and shorter and wider, you can make the lips thicker, and you can change the jaw size, oh, give me a break! That isn't what I expected, I was expecting the whole sims 2 package, like the sims gave the whole sims package other than remaking a horrible game!
Maxis, next time, take a hint and look at what your fans actually like in the sims!

My kids have played this game and loved it. So we bought it for one of them for there birthday. But it requires a lot of memory and we were unable to download it to our computor. We ended up selling it to another Amazon Customer. So be warned if you purchase for your computor besure you have enough memory to run the game.
Get the one for PC

This game is ok for the ps2 but it has its defent down sids such as you can't make your chartor and thats anoying. You have a limited amount of stuff you can put into a home and a limmited amount of house space that you can build! Get the pc version its much better.
