The Great Escape is nearly as good as MGS3,to me this game is better than any Splinter Cell game-I ain`t a SC series fan anyway, its better than Mission:Impossible:Operation SURMA-a SC clone. Its just about nearly as good as MGS and Hitman. Its based on the early 60`s movie-The Great Escape. The movie is mentioned in Snake Eater ironically as the Major,Major Tom(i won`t spoil MGS3) names himself after one of the tunnels, anyone who watched the movie would know that "TOM" was one of the unlucky tunnels.
It weird that some of the movies mentioned in MGS3 have a game,as well as TGE also 007 From Russia With Love is mentioned,.and there is a 007 FRWL game now.Next there will be "It" Came From Outta Space game!
Bye.

i love the movie and the game is great and exciting except i wish it would be more of a shooter instead of just stealth and boring objuctives. i also wish you'd have more freedom in the levels not just doing objectives and moving on; the game goes really fast. Besides that the game is just what i expected. I'd give it a try if you like/are familiar with the movie otherwise don't beacuse you'd get confussed.
An okay game

I hired this game and it's good. The graphics were not polished just before it was released because they were working on Conflict Desert Storm 2...was well. You get the great bits from the movie when they were going through that man made tunnel to escape(it's tense if you watched the movie)and the infamous bike cene and when the guy guides the person that was blind in the train and many more.
Finally, they have made a video game out of this.

The Great Escape is one of my favorite war movies. So, when I heard they were going to make a video game I was very excited. When I got the game for Christmas, 2003, I enjoyed playing it. The controls are very easy to learn. There are four characters in the game that you will be able to play as. They are Hilts, Hendly, McDonald, and Sedgewick. And of course the game enemies are Nazis.
This is the plot, it is just like the movie but more in depth. You are able to find out how 4 characters(there names are in the first paragraph)in the film started out and how they got to the prison camp in the film. The 1st mission is airplane combat. You are McDonald and are in a British bomber fighting the Nazis over Berlin, you are shot down and have to parachute, you are then captured by the Nazis and sent to the first prison camp. You then have to escape from that prison camp, when you escape you are caught again and are taken to a castle prison. Just as before, you have to escape from that prison. Now you have to fight your way down the mountain by stealing weapons and of course killing Germans. After you do this, the game switches you to a new character, Sedgewick.
Now that you are Sedgewick, you have to burn an important code book that was left in the plane that is crashed, but the "Jerries" are getting close to the crash site and will find the book if you don't get there fast. After you journey to the crash site and burn the code book, you change to the next character.
Now you are Hilts. You arrive at a prison camp and have to escape and go to a truck depot and steal a truck and drive to freedom.
After you do this you are McDonald and are at Stalag Luft III, the prison camp in the movie and you must complete a series of objectives. Then the next levels are with Hilts and Sedgewick and finally you escape from the prison camp.
After you escape, the character Hendly is finally introduced and you are able to play him and help him and Blythe(Blythe was his blind friend in the movie)escape, you also get to ride the motorcycle that Hilts rode in hte movie. But at the end of the game, all 4 characters escape. In the movie only Sedgewick escapes. That is just a little fun thing that makes you feel like you've really escaped. This game has pretty good graphics. If you liked the movie, play the game.
Amazing Game!

I bought this game before seeing the movie. I've heard good things about both. When I began playing - I couldn't stop! Each level offers something different - many unique escapes. The thing I liked most about this game is the stealth aspect and attempting to avoid being spotted. Sometimes you'll hear a guard mumble like he heard 'something' hence giving you an opportunity to move out of sight or try and find a better place to hide - it wasn't frustrating at all but still remained challenging right up until the last scenes.
Overall one of the best strategy and adrenilin games I've played in a long time.
5 stars all the way!
Kudos to Gotham Games - I hope they keep bringing us games like this one.

This game is great! It has really good graphics, just about as good as the cover. The levels are challenging too. The controls are pretty simple when you get used to them. I really enjoyed this game a lot. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes games that are challenging, sneaky, and about war. This game is great!!!
What a fun game!!

I loved this game, I really did. Even on the easiest setting, I found it frustratingly hard to progress at any speed, often I'd find myself playing the same level again and again until I worked out how to defeat it. That, to me, is half the enjoyment of playing the game.
Ok so things aren't perfect but I can live with the slight nuances that the game has (the Ashley-Pitt-walking-in-circles glitch is my favourite).
Cool audio samples from the original movie only improve the game-playing enjoyment. Thoroughly recommended.
A GOOD GAME

THERE WERE QUITE A FEW NEGATIVE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS GAME, BUT BEING A WWII BUFF, I WENT AHEAD AND GOT IT ANYWAYS. I WAS NOT EXPECTING MUCH BUT THE GAME TURNED OUT TO BE VERY INTERESTING. IT IS NOT AS POLISHED AS THE NEW PS2 GAMES COMING OUT NOW, BUT THE GAMEPLAY IS VERY GOOD. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS, MORE SO IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE MOVIE. ITS WORTH ITS TIME.

You know, i am kinda confused by all the positive reviews. i couldnt' get into it from the start because of the awkward controlling scheme. The alternate patters for the controls also were awkward, so that alone hindered it. the graphics are also a little odd, and as hard as i tried, i couldn't get into the story, even though i loved the movie. great idea, just not executed well.
Horrible

if you are looking for a game that is similar to MOH of Socom (I or II) or kill switch this is not the one. It is boring and you dont get to shoot things like the other two. Its a bad game thats should have never been sold.
