DON'T BUY THIS GAME!!!

This game is not all that good. I rented it. The commercial made it look good but it's impossible to beat even if you use the code to unlock all of the tracks and most of the cars!!! DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!

i cant believe people like this game!!
there are so many aspects that make me want to throw bricks at the ps2.
the game is so frustrating!! it is nearly impossible to win-the time limits are completley unreasonable, so you never have a chance. also, even if you place 1st in one race, the next one you ALWAYS start in 6th-so within seconds, you have lost the race.
another thing is that annoying is how cars always pull out in front of you causing a huge pile up, putting you in last if you werent already, and this never happens to the competition, they ALWAYS just sail right past you.
the beginning of the"underground"section of this [game] has you completing a huge track with very limited time-this took me 2 days to beat to get to move on. after this you do a few races, and then they make you do this one again-its 85% the same thing as the one at the beginning-only its foggy instead of dark-isnt that cool??NO!!
and what is with those jumps thrown in??in the levels it always dark so you cant even tell when youre about to go off one-and you know what the bonus is?2 whole seconds!how generous of them.
i was going to rent the game stuntman instead of this thing-i reccomend you try that instead.
try also smugglers run-its awesome!
if this convinced at least 1 person not to play this i will feel very happy.

Gameplay impossible and annoying

I think this game could have been fun, but they ruined it.

1) The time limits are highly annoying. When you are in second place but the race ends halfway because of a time limit, it's really frustrating. Its suppose to be a race against the opponents but the clock keeps killing the action.

2) The cops seem to only try to get you, and if there are several of them, one will hit you and spin you around and then the others tag you, and you end up getting stopped because your "busted". This is particularly annoying in large pileups as all the other drivers take off and your stuck getting hit by the cops.

3) Accellerating after stopping. After being stopped (wall, car collision, etc) sometimes no matter how softly you hit the gas you peel out. Combine that with #2 and it really [stinks].

It's also got it's share of bugs. I liked the first few levels I played until I started the underground missions (Which is most of the game). It was all downhill from there.

good cars but to fake

This game has some very cool cars, but is horrible when it comes to realism. I personaly dont think it is much fun when you can run over light poles and they fall over like twigs. And another thing is that when you r just about to win a race it always seems like the time runs out. That really makes me mad. I rented it but i would never buy this game. And 1 more thing is that it seems impossible to run over anybody.
To me this game really stinks.

This game is nothing more than an interactive commercial promoting various rap artists and a grade B weak plot movie. In no way did the makers of this game intend on making it worth while. Races are ... Everytime you crash your opponents are never far in front of you, but when you get to the finish line, 1 or 2 of them always jumps ahead. And the pong thing while it's loading is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I'm a persistant guy and played this game for an hour trying to beat one race. After that I stuck the cd in my microwave, fried it, and threw it out the window. Oh yeah, that nice Charger you see on the front cover of the box, unless you spend the next 4 months mastering this game, you'll never get it.

GTA's the ONLY car game the PS2 needs.

Bad music, awful handeling, ect. I played Test Drive at my friend's house, and he said it was "a million times better than Grand Theft Auto 3." Devin lied. Here's the comparisens:

Grand Theft Auto 3:
You can get out of the car and steal other ones.
Test Drive:
Your stuck in one car the whole time.

The people always jump out of the way, which gets annoying.

Rubberband AI and Pong. Yeehah!!

That's all you need to know about "Test Drive", rubberband AI and Pong. Those are the only two things the game developers put any thought into and it just kills what possibly could've been a fun game.

It's been said before and I'm gonna say it again in my review. The load times for this game are outrageous. Really awful. They're so bad that you are given the chance to play Pong while you wait. Sure...it's fun for about three games but then the next couple hundred times are boring. You just want the game to load up already.

The load times would be tolerable if the game was worth the wait...which it's not! I don't know who first developed the whole rubberband AI concept but I have spent the better part of the last decade cursing them. Could someone please explain to me what the point of getting good at a game is if it makes no difference whatsoever? Why should I get to know the tracks and improve my powerslides if I don't have to? You could let your cat play this game up until there's about 30 seconds left before the end of the track. Then you just pick up the controller from your precious little Snowball and zoom past your opponents. How silly.

The inability to fall far behind the computer racers makes this game a great title for kids and people who don't ever play racing games. They'll be proud of themselves for always being in every race. That's cool for them but a grave disappointment to those of us who want something that provides a challenge. Poor graphics and repetitive gameplay make this a game most of you should skip, unless it's dirt cheap in a bargain bin somewhere.

This is the worst driving game i've played in years.

This game so unrealistic. it made me so frusturated and annoyed because of all the fake stuff they put into it. I played it for about 3 days and gave up because it is so unreal. If you want a good street racing game thats not so unrealistic that its not fun, get Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero. If you want a good realistic racing simulator, get Gran Turismo 3.

Bad racing game

Well, this game is not worth buy nor rent. There are so many flaw in this game. First, it's not playable with my PS2 Logitech Steering Wheel. Yes, it is compatible, but the control is ultra sensitive, it's impossible to play it with steering wheel. It is very very sensitive, your car going to slide over like crazy. And the worst part is, there's no option to calibrate it. The ugly part is, since when the gas pedal is on the left and brake pedal is on the right?. And there is no option to switch it. Overall, the control is very frustating for those of you who use steering wheel. Maybe it's better to play it with gamepad instead, which is no fun at all.

The graphic is not so bad. No aliasing, good sun glare. Yet, the cars are too shiny. It almost like looking at the mirror. Another complaint is that you race through San Fransisco, Tokyo, London, but why I don't see any big buildings there? You just race through the road in plain grass, mountain, trees and jungle. What happen? Those cities is not just plain grass and jungle. Hmm, maybe the developer never been in those cities nor see the pictures/photos. They just imagining what the city looks like and unfortunately they imagine the city in the year 1800 BC.

Let's talk about sounds. Duh, the car engine sounds worst than my lawnmower. And the police sirens......you're going to laugh when you hear it. Don't they have the research department? While the soundtracks are from big famous bands (example: DMX, Ja Rule, Moby), but the songs are the one that never hit the billboard nor radio station. Cheap license, eh?

Why? Why? I used to love Test Drive series, but this is such a disgrace. I don't know what the developer of this game was thinking. But clearly, this game is not finished yet (or they just don't care about it). Actually, from the opening movie you know that the developer didn't put their heart and soul to make this game. They just want to finish the game no matter how good/bad it's going to be. And unfortunately, it is bad. Still want to buy/rent this game to prove me wrong? Well, you can always do that, but don't tell me I didn't warn you.

I just rented this game from [local store] because i love the GT40 by ford (which is the coolest car ever) but anyways, i put it in my PS2 turn the power on and everything. It goes through the intro and stuff then it gets to the loading game pong. You know pretty cool you get to play pong for like 30 seconds.(so i thought) YOU END UP PLAYING PONG FOR TEN MINUTES![.] so i played and then i went to story mode or whatever, goes to the loading screen i am there for 10 minutes and still IT DOESNT COME ON![.] So i said forget this game [is bad][!]trust me if you are even thinking about this game my advice is rent it look at the loading time then make your decision. TRUST ME!
