Similar to Sniper Elite, but at a much slower pace

First, the graphics are fairly dated for a new PC game, but it ran smoothly on a P4 3.0 GHz computer.

The gameplay is very similar to Sniper Elite. You can kill enemy soldiers or civilians and haul away their bodies. One of the main things to do in the game is to steal the uniforms of important enemy soldiers so you can infiltrate the buildings easier. However, I found the enemy AI is quite dumb. If you shoot someone in a group, the non-deceased scatter about trying to find you but in a random and nonsensical manner. The shooting interface is cumbersome and slow. If you're into WWII 3rd person shooters, this game will delight you! I was disappointed that you can't drive the tanks or half-tracks. Instead, you can drive the Kharman Gia or the 2.5 ton and both vehicles handled like beached whales and do 0-60 in a century.

Overall, the fun factor is HIGH but it does get boring at times. In one mission, you rescue a spy and have to lead him to the evac point. He takes forever to reach the point because you have to babysit him every 5 steps. The player eventually becomes focused on the visual cones of enemy soldiers rather than immersing themself in the environment. The lack of a first person perspective prevents the player from becoming more involved in the game. The concept of the game is well thought out but it has been done before and is more of the same.

They can keep it!

This game has so many modes of copyright protection, that it leads me to believe that there are parts of it that will not be uninstallable. I have had such problems and they require rebooting the computer which isn't nice. So, I chose not to install it. Consumers should make it clear that they will not buy such monstrosities.

Not as engaging as I'd hoped

In many ways, I felt that Death to Spies was not too unlike Splinter Cell. It, too, is a spy game and it, too, requires that you draw little attention to yourself. That is something that I really like about it. However, what I don't like about it is that it is difficult to get used to the mouse work required.

Beyond that, what I don't like is that you are really out of luck if you don't follow the "rules of the game" to a T. You've got to do just what you're told in (what it seems) a specific order or you'll not get ahead, but rather simply get dead....

After a while, it just seems futile and I gave up. It drew me back - the need for conquest - but without some hints or some ultimate knowledge of resolution, I felt I couldn't succeed.

fun as hell!

I tried to load this game twice and it never worked. Not sure what the problem was since it arrived without instructions. I am sure the game is great and I was looking forward to checking it out so I was disappointed. The operating system I was using was Windows XP

Would not work on my PC

I tried several times but this game would not work on my PC. There were 2 discs to input. They kept saying "unable to launch" and "format not recognized".

Its pretty good, but not great...

I have played this game off and on for a couple months now and I just can't give it a great review. The premise of the game is great, and the WWII setting is very cool, but the inability to be accurate and/or easily control the weapons is a deal breaker for me. Also, the AI in this game seems a bit clunky. It sort of reminds me of games from my teen years in that at times the speed of the action seems very clunky and also there are unexplainable glitches like bad guys "seeing you" when it should not be possible or bad guys not "seeing you" when they should.

Overall I give this game 5 stars for potential, but ultimately only three stars for actual performance.

It's ok....

this game is OK. The graphics are decent but the framerate was pretty low; it got really "clippy" in parts. However this may be because of my laptop, which is a couple years old and wasn't bought with gaming in mind.

Other than that, I give it an average rating simply because it's an average, run of the mill action game that, while doesn't do anything bad, also doesn't step outside of the box. it's a decent mix of spying/hunting/action without going out of it's way to be totally one or the other genre.

Frustrating and Annoying...

Death to Spies is easily the most frustrating PC game I have ever played. I can understand making a game challenging but this game far surpasses challenging and moves into ridiculous. Here you are a USSR counterintelligence officer who is trying to infiltrate the Nazi party. The game does have great graphics, gameplay and is extremely faithful to historical settings. But overall, this one is just too time consuming, difficult and annoying for me to deal with.

If you're a fan of stealth and don't mind low-budget production values, this should be right up your alley. Otherwise, stay away- it's not an easy game for the action afficionado.
