2 great SF games for one low price

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

I'm giving it 5 stars for the value of the low price for two excellent fighting games.
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike is arcade perfect, this game is a masterpiece, my favorite 2D fighter.
Hyper Street Fighter II is Super Street Fighter II Turbo with the ability to chose the diffrent versions of each SF2 incarnation (for example, you can select Ryu from any of the 5 SF2 version, so you can pick you favorite one).

2 great SF game, one cheap low price, it's worth it for any SF fan

Been waiting for this one!

I'm 27 and have been a Street Fighter Fan since I was 15 and started playing this in the Arcades. I played SFIII in an arcade during the summer of '98 and never found it again. I really loved that version and am glad to see that it's made it to a mainstream home-game platform. I believe it was also on some lame Atari system that failed the test of time.

Anyway...the info that's out on this game sounds GREAT and I can't wait to play it! I was saddended to hear that the bonus rounds have been removed. They were a nice treat and cool throw-back to Final Fight...from whence SFII draws many of it's cool characterictics. Speaking of which...when the hell is someone gonna make an honest and true home version of Final Fight for PS2?! What a classic that game was!!!

The Reason why to get this, and a reason not to...

I love Street Fighter II, I mean I really love Street Fighter II. I have been playing it since it came out in the arcades, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, and I still play them on those systems. I own every version of Street Fighter II with the exclusion of Super Street Fighter II Turbo because I don't own a 3DO. That is the reason why I got this collection because it's included in what is called Street Fighter II: Hyper, which is like a combination of all of the Street Fighter II versions. But I am disappointed in it. Why you ask? I am a really good player, this is my favorite fighting game and I can beat all the others on the hardest settings. But the level of difficulty on this Hyper version is insane. The easiest even is hard!!! Especially if you are fighting T. Hawk and he does that HO thing!!! I want to break the disc!!! But let me say that when you are playing against a human player, all the fun and stradegy of Street Fighter II returns. But what I think is the best thing of the whole deal is the game I didn't buy it for: Street Fighter III: Third Strike. This game is excellent!!! Graphics, Sound, Challenge, and most of all FUN!!! It's all there! So if you want to play Street Fighter II the right way, play it on a Super Nintendo is my suggestion or play it on Genesis, or if your lucky to have the arcade machine around play it (you lucky Bast..), but don't it on the Hyper version and plan on actually have fun against the computer. But do get it!!! Buy it for Third Strike, it is well worth it.

Street Fighter 3 alone is worth the money

As an earlier reviewer noted, this is not much of a collection, but it is an excellent game to have. Street Fighter 3 is probably the "classiest" Street Fighter series ever made - while the action is not as fast-paced as the Alpha/Marvel series of games, it is perfectly balanced and oozes "technique" from its pores.
SF3: Third Strike alone is worth cost of this collection, especially when you consider "the other game" included in the collection.
Hyper SF2 is an amalgamation of the earlier SF2 games (SF2, CE, Turbo, Super SF2, and Super SF2 Turbo) - you get to pick any of the 12 characters (+ Akuma), and you get to pick the exact version of the character, from any of the 5 games (assuming that the character belonged to the game to begin with, of course). So, for example, you could pick SF2 Blanka (from the original game) to fight against SSF2T Fei Long.
While the idea is not a bad one, and the controls work well (unlike the SF games in the Capcom Classics collection), this game is infamously difficult. In fact, unless you resort to cheesy moves (like Blanka's roll attacks), you'll find yourself losing even at the default difficulty level.

Great for what it is, but could have been much more.

I'm a very big Street Fighter fan. When I first heard about Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, I was stoked. You should take the word 'Collection' in the title with a grain of salt though. This is a half baked collection, consisting of really just two games. The two games included here are top notch classics, though. Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition (confusing enough?) is a cool little collection of all the Street Fighter II games in one. However, they're all basically the same with some minor differences, and you'll notice that some of the fun little features found in the original Street Fighter II games, such as the car and brick smashing stages, are absent. Why, Capcom, why? Also, why cant you play these games seperately? And is it just me, or is Blanka's A.I. annoyingly cheap? Still, Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition is great fun, and even more enjoyable if you have a friend to play with you.
The real meat in this "collection" is the vastly underrated Street Fighter III: Third Strike. Although the first two Street Fighter III games werent included (SF III and Double Impact - again, why, Capcom, why? Are you going to milk us for all us gamers are worth? I guess so). Third Strike is a must play for any hardcore fighting fan, although the charecters aren't as good as the original SF II cast. The graphics are also pretty good for a 2D fighter - its a visual whirlwhind of 2D animation. That is what makes this worth owning.
Although this could have been so much more, its a great buy. You may rather want to purchase the Xbox version instead, though, since that includes online play. Now where is Street Fighter Alpha Collection?

If you don't know why we're complaining...

If you are one of those people that can't figure out why the avid fans are complaining, then read my review below. I graded it 3 stars because it is a port of an arcade game. The orignal SF3 was great, a 5 star game, thus the port being true to the arcade game is a 5 star game... simple right? The original SF2 -ARCADE- Games, World Warrior, Champion, Hyper, Super Sf2, and Super Turbo, are all 5 star games, classic fighting games, the best of the best. Now here is the problem: in SF: anniversary collection, and you play the SF anniversary collection game... you have a choice of playing each character with the respective traits from that game they came from. But, they do not play like the characters that the comes from the game you chose. Soo... if you (Capcom) are going to tell us we are playing as certain characters, then let us play as those characters, not modified versions of these characters (especially world warrior guile!). PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS FOR XBOX, 3 stars is generous because of the great price! P.S. and for the "kids" reviewing this, you werent even old enough to play the original arcade games enough to critque it and give it 5 stars.. expect more from developers, I test games, that is what we all have to do if you want better games in the future) And if you are pretty decent and want a match or comments drop me (...) Thanks.... -chad

Wonderful Classics.

Street Fighter Anniversery Collection was a great game. I honestly do not know why everyone is complaining. I usually am not the best fighter in these kind of games(one of the worst players at Mortal Kombat but still love to play it) but this game, I found pretty easy. Sure, the graphics are pretty archaic, but I love the humbleness, simplicity, and addictiveness of these old arcade games. I have about 40 arcade games in my video game library and this is definately in the top 10. Play this game and you probably will not be dissappointed. If you do not like this game, you don't like fighting games(or if you want more violence that this game doesn't deliver, may I suggest a Mortal Kombat title. Deception was great get the premium pack) Overall, this was a great game that is a great intro to not only one of the most famous video game franchises, but, without a doubt, one of the best.

What are they thinking?

I am a huge Street Fighter fan since the beginning. I played every single Street Fighter game out there, and this title is perfect for me, since there are not that many arcades with this machine. I enjoy the original action and gameplay, and not to mention all of the original characters and style they represent.

This title has the origal version, along with the Turbo and Championship version, and not to mention Street Fighter 3, not to mention all of the characters all rolled into one. I like the idea of a original Ryu could fight a more recent Ryu.

The only problem I have with this game is the difficuly of it. I am a good player, yet I still lose to the first person I fight, and that is on the Easiest Mode. Come on, they fight like they are on Hard Mode, I really am ticked off by DeeJay and T-Hawk, they are a pain to fight. I have to resort to basic kick and sweep, and mostly sweep just to beat them. Word to Capcom, make Easiest Mode easy and Hard Mode hard, not Hard Mode all the way.

Overall classic Street Fighter game, with Street Fighter 3 and classic action that we all love, this is a great game for all you fans.

Best Street Fighter Collection Available

I'm gonna rate Street Fighter Anniversary 4 out of 5 stars. For a low cost of 30 bucks you get 2 cool fighters on one disk.
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike is arcade perfect, the characters have the alpha-anime look to them. You can even watch the Street Fighter movie on this disc. Sorry guys, the movie is the PG13 version. You'll have to buy the uncut version if you want to see some skin. My only complaint is some of the music doesn't match the game. (Rap music, huh?)

The old school Street Fighters are here too. All the characters are available to choose from, even the secret Akuma character from Street Fighter II Turbo. This is almost a perfect port of the version from the arcade on your PS2. There are even remixes of the classic tones to choose from here. You can choose from all the different versions of the past Street Fighters! I wish there was an option to adjust the music on this version though; it drowns out some of the cool sound effects. Depending on the version you pick the characters poses, voices, and sound effects also change. The breakable backgrounds are back! There is no missing animation from the character sprites this time. Ryu and Ken actually slant when you move! I've have a few complaints on this version. Some of the colors are slightly faded. This is highly noticeable on Balrog and Sagat back stages. (Where blacks look gray)
The classic bonus stages are missing in this port and each character only has one thing to say after each victory, witch gets kinda old and there is no way to adjust character damage. Some characters can kill you with 3 hits. A minor complaints for the best Street Fighter available. Buy this game if you're a Street Fighter fan. Whens the Street Fighter Alpha collection coming out!?

Tiger uppercut!

this is by far the best collection that capcom has put together. hyper street fighter 2 will appeal to those who know the differences in each version of street fighter 2. for an example, when zangief misses a screw pile driver, he becomes very vulnerable in super street fighter 2. champion edition doesn't have the missed animation, making him less vulnerable. being able to choose the right version of your favorite character is a big plus. as far as third strike goes, i've never played it in depth. but it looks like i will be. i can now understand why 3rd strike has been called the most overlooked version of the series. it seems to look and play much better than the alpha series. the bottomline is that if i could keep just one 2-D fighting game, this would be it.
