Great game, horrible service

World of Warcraft is one of the best MMORPGs I have ever played. The game is incredibly addictive, great fun, and has pretty much everything going for it, content-wise.

So why the bad review? Because their level of customer service is abhorrent. Unacceptable amounts of downtime, and forum moderators that respond with more or less stock responses to issues, and take absolutely no steps to accurately inform players of what's really going on. The high population servers are laggy, constantly crashing, and despite many supposed "fixes" the problem persists, and has persisted since the game was released.

To sum up, World of Warcraft is a great game, if you don't mind constantly being unable to play it.

Unstable servers, poor technical support

I have played this game for about a month thus far, and three out of every five times I try to login there are server problems. They have a huge 6 hour block each WEEK where they put all the realms down for maintenance and they claim this will prevent problems and increase stability. WRONG. As I write this review, the server won't let me or many other players login, and it's been like this for FOUR HOURS. I am not going to pay $15 a month of my hard-earned cash to only be able to play for a few hours a month due to server problems.

The Game Masters also give generic and robotic responses to any inquiries.

As for telephone and e-mail support, the usual response to ANYTHING is "we are aware of the problem and are working to fix it" hours later, you call and/or e-mail back they give the exact same response as if it's not even a person looking into your inquiry.

The game itself is pretty fun, on the RARE chance you're able to connect to the servers.

Buyer beware, you'll be paying $15/month for only a few hours of gameplay a month, if you're lucky. I also might add, those few hours will be laggy, even on a broadband connection. Don't be surprised to see latencies of 800ms or higher.

My brother mentioned to me about 2 years or so ago that he had started to play a new online game (I had just really started to hear about MMORPGs at that point, being an old-skool FPS fan myself) called World of Warcraft based on the Warcraft RTS games. I had played Warcraft III a bit, I had found it to be enjoyable but a bit shallow. I loved the mythos though...tongue in cheek as it was. So I picked it up and started a character on a PVP (player versus player) server. I picked a troll mage...my brother was playing an undead female warlock so I chose a Horde (the "bad guys") factioned character too.

2 years later, I have played almost every day, at least a little bit on average, and leveled 3 characters to the current cap of 60. I played my original and still much loved Mage, an Orc Warrior...and in an inexcusable defiance to the horde...a night elf rogue on another server.

the game play is intuitive, simple and yet...subtly complex. The community is the thing though. I've made real friends, lasting connections with other players though questing together and working together for various "guilds".

Some say that WoW is a time sink only, and of no value. It's just a game, people say. But it is so much more than that. I love my Real life, but, in many ways I get to "be" my mage in game...and like any hobby, the more time you spend on it, the better you get.

This is a hobby, and a lifestyle. So much more than a game.

And I'm not an irresponsible kid either...I'm a grown man in my thirties with a wife and kids and a good job. I take care of all that, but in my spare time...I am a troll mage. :-)

I've played all systems imaginable, starting with Lisa and Commodore 64 decades ago. There have been periods when I was addicted to certain games. I knew that this game is super addictive before getting it, and for some strange reason, I'm better able to control myself with this one compared to others. It's true that if you get this for a young person or a "loner" it will NOT help them. HA HA. They will get sucked into it. However, for responsible people it is fine. The fact that you can stop and continue anywhere you want to is probably the reason why I am not as addicted, like with XBOX where you have to finish things or else.

You can fish in the game, and catch all types of different things. You can learn different recipes to strengthen your powers. The variety is endless. I've actually become a better person from this game, because of the friendly nature of the other players. So many are willing to help, it is so opposite from other online games- ie Counter Strike, Halo, America's Army...

I can't believe how many females play this game, and really well!! They designed it in such a way, that from the very beginning you get trained for the next stage.

And if you don't like reading instructions for quests ingame or strategies offline, you will be at a loss.

I've been playing RPG's for 5 years now. I've tried Asheron's Call, Star Wars Galaxies among many others. I've been playing World of Warcraft now for a few weeks in beta. From what I see the game is going to be great. There are many professions, trade skills and basic skills - which means every charcter is unique. Your allowed two professions with an addition of three others everyone gets - whether or not you use them. As you play, the critters you come across are awesome. There are so many different kinds, and spawn rate seem to be good (and beta is crowded at times) The quest are fun, and any character/profession can play solo or in a group. The setup is quite nice, and your stats and skill go up as you level, as well as what you train when your allowed too which makes it great as no one can 'powerlevel' there states without having the proper level behind them. You log into the game very quickly! Compared to other RPG's I've played I was amazed at how fast your 'in the game'. Even dying is fun they way they display it - This game has plenty of potential and years of fun ahead... you have one month free of play after purchasing the game its worth a try, you will love it:)

From the Worldofwarcraft.com forums to this reviews system y need to say... The game is good, but i must to be honest, pay $15 box per month for a game that is all the time with SERVER DOWN is very disappointed. I think pay 15$ per month is to much if you get server down or servers under maintenance. This is all the time, three or more time per week, from 4 to 6 hours every time.
Blizzard have an excellent game, very good video graphics, but for what? If you can not play the game.

Like many World Of Warcraft players i feel very disappointed for servers down times, if you want a good online video game, for the servers down times, World Of Warcraft is not the best choice.

HELP - I'M ADDICTED!

I have been playing video games for 35 years (yeah, I'm old). I just recently experienced on-line play. I really did not know what to expect but was happy to find that World of Warcraft is easy for the beginner.

Now, after almost a year of play and over eight characters added to my "family," I have to say that this game is well worth the $15 per month fee. Game play is fresh and new even after you've reached level 60. Blizzard certainly earns their keep by adding new adventures and instances. The holidays are a blast as they add little touches and further quests at those times of the year.

I have played Guild Wars and have to say that for me, it is considered "World of Warcraft lite." Guild Wars cannot offer the freshness and depth that World of Warcraft has to offer.

Whether you are a loner or want to do the full guild thing, World of Warcraft will not disappoint. After much pushing, my husband, a die hard Guild Wars player, I managed to get him on line in WoW via a two month gift card. Well, he is hooked and has not returned to Guild Wars since.

I love this game!

So much fun it will slowly suck your life away

I bought this game on a whim, 50 bucks plus 12 dollars a month after the first month. Wow that's pretty expensive just to play a game right? In the four months I have been playing this game I have never saved so much money in my life. I rarely went out, never bought another game during that whole period, and I rarely ate anything. If I wasn't at work I was playing this game. This game is that much fun and that addicting. After you max out a character or two the game begins to lose it's allure but by that time you've already gotten your money's worth in my opinion.

I started playing WoW in February 2007. I quickly became very addicted and played every night for 6 months. Unfortunately, I hit the wall at level 70. This is a great game, especially in the beginning. Numerous quests, beautifully rendered graphics, awesome monsters to fight, and other "real" people to share the gaming experience with. Things do get old after a while though. This is especially true at high levels, when the only options left are reputation grinding, raiding, and crafting. I found crafting to be fun but a huge money sink. Raiding involves a time commitment that I am unable to give due to "real" life obligations. Reputation grinding gets old after awhile as well. Try killing the same group of ogres 1000 times in order to get the reputation needed for a nice helm and you understand where I am coming from. One nice thing about level 70 is the flying mount in Outland. This opens up an entirely new area of exploration. Just be careful where you fly, as I discovered one time while exploring near a horde outpost.

Overall, World of Warcraft is a great game but it does get old after awhile. If you are a busy person in real life like me, you will never have time to see the end-game stuff due to the sheer time commitment needed. The trip to 70 is fun though, more so the first time than the third however. After trying other MMO's, I found WoW to be the best for gameplay, graphics, and entertainment value. I just feel a little left out in the end.

I speak in absolute sincerity when I say EVERYONE who writes a review on this game seriously are just idiots. Right now, the game is in BETA. That means its NOT DONE YET. Changes will happen. You can't judge a book by its first draft first sentecence.

Oh and the idiot who talked about flying mounts and classes and optional PvP is crazy too- there will NOT be flying mounts excluding taxi-type mounts which fly certain flight paths and charge money. The classes are much more than he mentioned, and he neglected to mention some new races that are now announced. This is a beta, it is subject to change.
