King's Quest was Sierra's milestone maker from the 80s up through the early 90s. King's Quest 1 was the first computer game with color graphics, King's Quest 4 was the first game with digital music, and King's Quest 5 was the first game with complete voice actors, and King's Quest 6 was the first game exclusively on compact disc.

But besides all that, the games themselves are practically masterpieces in their own right. That is, except for game 7. I'm not sure if that was made before or after Sierra was bought out by Cendant, but it would certainly explain some things. In any case, the mediocrity of it doesn't detract from the rest. However, you should note that King's Quest 1-4 and the Laura Bow games are made for DOS and may not work properly under new versions of Windows. They do work for me under Windows 2000 with VDMSound, though.

For those of you criticizing the prices here on Amazon for this amazing collection i find it kind of funny. Most of you (myself included) have no problem plopping down 50 bucks for a new game but when it comes to the greatest collection of games EVER released including the first 7 Kings quest games, and a remake of the first 1 - with better graphics only available in this collection as well as a host of other classic adventure games and other bonuses to numerous to list 100 bucks or so starts to sound like a bargain - and believe me you probably wont save any money on ebay on this one - hard to find is a gross understatement. (Supply and demand)

I have my copy and i love it.

you can get it cheaper

I am a huge fan of the King's Quest series, and have played every game on the collection at least twice(KQ 3, 6, & 7, I have played more than 5 times each!). Although the graphics aren't the best compared with today's tech, the story lines completly make up for it! And along with the amazing puzzles, riddles, and quests you have to solve, a lot of humor is thrown in to add a little color to the game. Definitely family-friendly. My dad and I used to play when I was younger. I would recommend this game to anyone!

Wonderful, enchanting, great for the nostalgic gamer-

I love these games! I first saw them in second grade, and got addicted to KQ 6. I eventually ended up getting KQ1,3,5,6 and 7, but my computer didn't have a correct floppy drive to run #3. I still am madly insane over these games. You have to use your brain, wit, and skills, instead of just a sword (like most modern RPG's). The compelling storyline has me begging for more about Prince Alexander of Daventry (thanks to me, now he's married the one he loves and is the King of the Green Isles;) his sister Rosella (now, thanks to me, courting Prince Edgar in the land of the clouds;) King Graham of Daventry (Who, thanks to me, is king of Daventry, has married Valanice, and has rescued his family from the clutches of the evil mordack,) and, last but not least, Valanice (Who, thanks to me, married Graham, and found her daughter when she was kidnapped.) The non-violent, beautiful, innocent environment makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and allows you to get cozy with it like you can with a good book. BUY IT! You will love it forever! Roberta Williams was a genius.

Most of these games I had already passed with my dad about 10-14 years ago. My dad is a computer programmer and he used to bring these games home, I played all of them except Kings Qust 5 and up. It was a lot of fun playing them again on my own though!!

You can't get this anywhere else!

Someone said below "you can buy kings quest 15th anniverary with games 1 through 6 much cheaper and then purchase kings quest 7 separately much cheaper"

This may be true BUT, this collection has more than 7 games. There are also 3 full additional non-king's quest game and a handful of bonus games. Buying 1-6 and then buying 7 seperately will make you miss out on the other games!

This collection is fun for all ages - either for nostalgic reasons, or just b/c you like adventure! Highly recommended!

Vivendi Universal who acquired Sierra On-Line and all intellectual properties therein some time ago has announced that there will be Windows XP compatible compilations of the "King's Quest", "Space Quest", and "Police Quest" game series available during the holiday season of 06'. Yes, it is true that these compilations were promised in March of this year, but the most recent press release I have read indicates they are on course. After close inspection of the packaging of this particular product, I believe it would be a try at your own risk proposition to get this to work on a modern PC. Trust me, I still have my Space Quest and King's quest disks from when I purchased them new in the eighties but they will not work on a modern PC due the DirectX usage of modern PC's. These games require far less computing power and thus are not recognized without a fully tweaked DosBox emulator. Hope this helps and happy shopping.

Classic!

I've been a huge fan of King's Quest for a long time(I think it was the first game I played that actually had better than monochrome graphics on my 286x)

The first three games are the best (which is odd, 'cause their graphics are the worst by today's standards), four and five are pretty cool. Six and Seven had cartoon-like graphics, but didn't seem to have the adventurous feel of the others. The first one is still the most fun, and they even added both the old, classic version and a newer version with better graphics!

If you've played either Space Quest, or Police Quest... you'll get an instant feel for this one!
