Great overall, but one glaring flaw.

It was great to revisit the old Sierra King's Quest games, but my favorites have always been the Laura Bow series. It was great to be able to play The Dagger of Amon Ra on a new, faster computer than the one I had five years ago when I bought the game originally. But beware - you can't finish the game. There is an explanation with the game that they couldn't fully convert it to work on today's computers, and you completely forget about it until the killer begins to chase you at the end, and you realize that the game freezes and you can't do anything. It is very disappointing. I wish they would revamp it and make it work for today's computers - it's such a good game. Otherwise the set is great - and it is hilarious to see the primitive graphics that we used to think were so cool. :)

The best collection

This is such a great collection. You get all the games from the series, except for the number 8. Plus you get some wonderful bonus, like the Colonel's Bequest and Laura Bow 2. My favorite game is King's Quest 6. You'll have endless hours of fun!

Ok, I was very surprised when i got this. I used to have laura bow 2, which is an awesome detective game, but i lost it. So, i saw that it was in this collection, so i payed for it alone, because it is worth it. Then after i got this collection and played lb2 awhile, i decided to try king's quest. The first game is awesome, even with the 4bit graphics! I still haven't beaten them all. I beat kq 1,6, and 7. This collection also made me go out and buy king's quest 8, which is a new game.

Overall this collection is worth ten time what you pay for. You get like 11 full games. Buy this as soon as you can!

The Colonel's Bequest

I bought this collection for one reason only and that was it contained the fabulous murder mystery Colonel's Bequest - a true lost treasure.

Laura Bow accompanies her friend Lillian to her grandfather's estate in a Southern bayou for a weekend where all her relatives discuss her grandfather's will. Of course the first night is riddled with murder and your job is to find out who is killing the guests.

The game has no "point" system in it which makes it hard to play and to complete the notebook at the end. But this will keep you playing. You won't believe one bayou has so many secrets. Play this game at night for maximum effect like I did. I also believe the early VGA graphics add to the errie atmosphere. A must play for a cold lonely night!

A Wonderful Collection

I have never played a single adventure game that was as funny, intelligent, well-written or enjoyable as this collection of delightful adventure games. I love each and every one; they provide hours of entertainment. From dazzling graphics to superb stories, you will never forget King's Quest.

EXCELLENT-Best of the Best

Where do I start? 'King's Quest' is one of, if not THE best adventure game series of all time. My favorite is 'KQ7', but 'KQ6' was close. All the others are also wonderful, even the ones with really primitive graphics. They are all colorful and whimsical and full of interesting and hilarious characters. I especially like that the pack doesn't include 'KQ8: Mask of Eternity'. If you like any of these games, you most likely will despise that one.

Anyway, I suggest you buy this pack before it's discontinued. It's worth every penny and so much more.

Here's to "The Colonel's Bequest"

This is truly a remarkable collection and a great buy. But the best game herein, in my opinion is "The Colonel's Bequest". That's the only reason why I got this collection.

If you're an Alfred Hitchcock fan, you'll love this game. It's very reminiscent of the movies "Psycho," (there's even a funny shower scene as a tribute) and "Rope". Set in the swamps of Louisiana in 1927, a young college girl accompanies her friend to the friend's family reunion on a secluded, run-down Civil War plantation. After the head of the family tells his relatives and servants that his wealth will be ditributed to them equally when he dies, murder and mayhem soon follow. As an earlier reviewer stated, this game is great for a cold, dark night. Many details and occurrences of this game are exciting and haunting: from the ghost of a teenage girl in the cemetery and the discovery of the family Bible in the Chapel, to the stories Celie (former plantation slave) tells you of how it was in the old days and the notes and letters left behind by the original land owners who saw that their end was near (referring to the spread of the Civil War). This game is full of mystery and suspense. Despite its aged EGA graphics and typing interface, it will still captivate any gamer who has a hunger for suspense. Regardless of how much graphics, video, and sound improves, this reamins my all-time favorite game.

Nearly Complete King's Quest

King's Quest was my favorite computer game series. Beginning in the 80's with the first color PCs, Kings Quest allowed the player to wander through various fairy tale lands, solving puzzles based on classic stories. The games were text-interface in the beginning, and offered just the right amount of challenge and story telling to be compelling. This collection of the original 7 King's Quest games in one box. The bonus games, while fun, are not as good as the KQ games included. Definitely the best games of early PC gaming.

King's Quest Collection: A Classic

These games have taken their place in computer history. King's Quest is the series that got Sierra started. King's Quest and the accompanying games are great fun for everyone in the family. But be forewarned - on the older games, typing is required, and it's not always easy to navigate.

Because these games are so old, compatibility can be a problem. For sound, however, downloading "VDMSound," currently at http://ntvdm.cjb.net/ or http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/ will help.

Laura Bow Dagger of Amon Ra does work!

I love the Laura Bow Dagger of Amon Ra game that came with the King's Quest Package! I only expeirenced one problem with it, it wouldn't finish, until I downloaded the bug fixer from Sierra and before you enter the last chapter Rex Takes a Bite Out of Crime, you must turn off the dialoge so you will see speech bubbles instead. I have done this many times and it has always worked for me now, you may turn the dialoge back on when you are climbing up the tunnel in the furnace room. Hope this helps all of you dying to see the ending! :)
