Yep, I paid the 30 bucks for this thing the second it came out. Finished it in about 5 hours. It is the most disappointing of the series so far by a long shot. I went through twice to see if it was me, or I was missing something. Nope.
Yes, there were some new things introduced. A few new characters too. But the story is so incredibly thin and weak, and the action simply stinks, except the final strider battle which is the single most frustrating thing I have ever played. There is simply NO good way to play it at the end
The setup for the next episode is fine, but this episode simply stinks. I love Valve and I happen to be a Steam fan, I buy everything from Steam that they offer that I want to play. But this one, blah....
Too bad. I'm looking less and less forward to the next installment.
BEST...(freak'n) Game...EVER!!!

I loved HL1, and couldnt wait for HL2.Then I thought there was HL3 Next, but I like the "Episode" style. Portal is the most uique games I have ever played. It also has a GREAT story. Team Fortress was great, but TF2, Now, THAT is SUPER!!! Episode 2 is also SUPER.
Overall, this game is ONE OF THE BEST PACKS...EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

Not having bought the HL2 series before now, I'm giving the value a 4/5. (edit 5.5/5)
Team Fortress alone was worth 30 dollars to me. Its a class based team shooter w/ the typical capture point & CTF type scenarios. I think its greatest strength is the very distinct differences between the classes (I.E. scouts' speed+double jump to engineers' ability to build strategic structures).
Portal was a good break from the typical HL2 experience. You've probably read rave reviews for this game just about everywhere, and I agree with them. Portal is a short sidestory to Half Life which consists of a labyrinth of traps. The game play dynamic is different than most anything seen so far, but that is hardly the highlight of the game. You're treated by one of the quirkiest personalities in gaming to date. GLaDOS, your mechanized supervisor in the game, has the most hilarious commentary I've ever found in a video game. You cant go more than 30 minutes without something completely off the wall being said. The only disappointment was the length of the game + bonus missions. I've put a total of 6 hours into it, to finish the game twice and do most of the bonus missions. To be fair though, it'd likely feel drawn out and forced if they added too much more.
Halflife2 Ep2 was a bit disappointing though. It seemed about as long as a chapter out of the original HL (maybe its just me?). (Steam says I've sunk ~5 hours into it if that means anything, but I search every nook and cranny for items).
Personally, I'd be a bit pissed if I had to buy each episode of HL2 for more than 10 dollars, considering their length.
Pros-
1)Variety of content
2)TF2...I've been waiting forever for this!
3)The locations & storyline for HL2 are wonderful, but...
Cons-
1)its not long enough (single player content wont keep you busy very long if you've already played HL2+ep1)
2)Steam causes problems at times (ie: games not showing up)
-sidenote- I have less problems loading steam myself and then running the game rather than clicking an icon or letting my comp boot it up.
3)Internet connection REQUIRED.
I bought it for maybe ~$40 after tax at Circuit City, and for that price I'd say its a decent deal if you have the previous two episodes, and a pretty darn good deal if you're just getting into the series.
Edit: At this point in time I've sunk over 16 hours into the engineer class alone in Team Fortress 2 (with a total of over 40 hours of gameplay probably). And thats after my stats were wiped once. I also replayed through HL2+the 'episodes,' and I'm still maintaining my position that the episodes in themselves feel way too short, incomplete, and forgettable to be sold separately. Overall, the only reason to skip out on buying the Orange Box is if you don't like class based online shooters and own the previous Half Life 2 games. Personally I probably would've payed $30 just for Team Fortress 2.

I have played every version of half-life there is. If you haven't orange box throws them in the box (play them 1st!). Nice mix of puzzles and first person shooter and a complex and interesting story. Plays well on Vista.
Awesome deal, great fun

PORTAL - so much fun! I loved the concept and it was great just to have fun with the game and how they made it. Great puzzle game, engaging. non-boring as well. I haven't really played the HL2E2 or the TFII, though.
Greatest deal ever

The Orange Box is worth way more then just 50 dollars whether you buy it for the 360 or the PC. Not only to you get half life 2 and all of it's episodic installments but portal and Team fortress 2 are immersing and fun. This package is not gonna be a play and forget set, Portal although short has tons of unlockable features, challenge maps and is just replayable all together. Team fortress 2 is a great game whether you played team fortress classic or not, the art style is very unique and the commentary is hilarious, ive never played a game where i had so much fun and laughed so hard at the same time.
Not only is team Fortress 2 an incredibly well made sequal to the origional team fortress but it is extremely well balanced and friendly to all types of players.
the entire half-life 2 series is also included in this so if you havent played the origional half-life 2 or episode 1 then you are already caught up for the new installment of episode 2
The Orange Box is an entire set of games that you will play over and over again.
Portal was a complete surprise

Orange box if full of Orange goodness! Perfect length of play with Episode 2. Storyline is great, and while required skills are much like all the other Half Life series, its a blast (literally)! The other items are also as much fun or more. Worth every penny and then some.
Awesome Game

I haven't even touched Half-Life 2 yet, and spent limited time with Portal, which is also a blast, but I think the focal point of the game is Team Fortress 2. Just an overall fun game, great characters, great maps, great weapons, great effects.
