This was the game we used to know as Resident Evil Online. Why the name change? Because it now also features a standalone mode (so people can play something without having to go online). We didn't see the single-player mode, though -- we saw the online game, with four people playing on four separate monitors. Following a super stylish intro, we witnessed a character select screen featuring a bunch of Hollywood look-alikes (the Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts look-alikes seemed almost lawsuit-worthy). Then it was on to the game, which, although early, left us dreaming of possibilities. It plays out in chapters: you'll enter into a certain situation and, with the help of human or computer teammates, be required to get through it. There are likely several different ways to complete a scenario, but all will likely require teamwork. It's pretty neat the way a group of players can work together. For example, there was a time when three players were fending off oncoming zombies while one went ahead and opened up a vent shaft for the group to escape through. Or there was another time where one person successfully landed a long jump and then went on to help the others make it across. It really looks like the building blocks are in place for something cool with Outbreak, and here's just hoping that Capcom can pull this one off. One sequence, in which the players were all running down a hallway with zombies chasing behind reminded me of a similar scene from the movie Aliens, where the characters were being chased down tunnels by the aliens. Just imagining the intensity of actually playing out such a scene had me incredibly excited.
Better than Resident Evil 4

Look at the screen shots, it looks more like Resident Evil 2 and 3. Those were the best Resident Evil games. The gameplay picks up where Resident Evil 3: Nemesis left off with tons of zombies lurking around the streets. The game takes you back to Raccon City. I bought a GameCube for Resident Evil, but now I'm selling my GameCube. I thought RE was GameCube exclusive, but I guess not. This game has a city crawling with Zombies, blood, fire, mutants, and some fresh faces. So what if you don't get to play and Leon Kennedy. Plus I'm pretty sure RE4 will end up getting ported to PS2 eventually. GameCube is basicly a dead console, I don't like Nintendo's chances.
Finally a new Resident Evil game YES!!!

The game is....well it's pretty good...However...
Loading time: HORRIBLE.
Difficulty: At times: OVERWHELMING....
I love Resident Evil. Anything Resident Evil. This is a great game...If only it had a quicker loading time and a "VERY EASY" option...hahaha I almost beat it though...It took me about 5 days. For me and RE, that's BAD.
Online: I haven't tried yet, probably won't be able to for a while.......
Decent game, however.

Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed playing the early RE games, but Capcom has let technology and gameplay innovations pass by their long-running franchise by several generations. Having played the beta version of Outbreak, I can only conclude that the long, gushing review posted on here was submitted by a Capcom employee. This iteration of RE has all of the old problems and quirks that have been around since the very first RE on Playstation: ridiculously long load times whenever you open a door, clunky controls, slow-moving and slow-turning characters, static (though nicely rendered) backgrounds, horrible camera (you'll die from off-screen enemies more often than in any previous RE game), and the worst inventory management interface ever.
But now you also get a whole brand-new set of poorly-designed problems available online! It starts with the web interface to register your login ID and password online. This has been provided by Access! Japan, which some of you may remember also provided one of the Dreamcast web browsers. Guess what? They haven't improved anything since then... It still feels like Netscape 0.1, with scroll bars and pull-down menus and broken-image icons while the page is loading. This just doesn't look right in a console game. Capcom, at least check out Planetweb for your next web interface -- their browser has been used on other console games without mangling the feeling of playing a game on a console instead of feeling like you've been dumped out of RE and into Netscape 0.1 running on a 286 PC. From there, you'll enjoy online gameplay with up to three other strangers (there's no match service or lobby to play with your friends). Oh, did I forget to mention that not only is there no voice support (hey, Capcom, it's 2004! Get with the program!), there's not even any *text* support! That's right, while playing the game, you'll be limited to a handful of button-triggered phrases to communicate with your fellow survivors. The only place you can even use a USB keyboard is entering your login/password. Good luck planning a strategy with your teammates using only L1 and directional buttons! Oh yeah, and now when you need to piece together items for a puzzle (or even collect ammo for your gun), if someone else gets to it first, you'd better hope they're extremely generous, or you're just out of luck. While cooperative gameplay can be great fun, in practice it *never* works with people you don't regularly play with. And since there's no way to play with anyone of your own choosing, well, best of luck getting someone else to hand you ammo for your gun when you can't even talk to them or explain what it is you want to do! Also, you will need to turn the brightness up on your TV monitor, since the backgrounds are so dark, you can't even tell where there are walls or blocking objects unless you do so.
Overall, this is a frustrating, clunky, derivative game that is several generations behind other online games and offers no new thrills. If you've already played RE 1, 2, and 3, then you've already played the best this franchise has to offer.
Crazy Not to love it!

This game by far is the most awsome game to ever come froM the Entire R.E. series! I mean thik about it all the other R.E. titles we plain and dull. They try to cover it up with a new story each time! I mean dosent that geat boring after a While? The new direction that they have headed with this new R.E. Title is a good step in trying to break away from that same old gameplay all us harcore fans are used to. The only thing that they are trying to do is keep up with these newer games out there that are supporting online play. I mean you have to admit that the thought of kicking zombie butt with your friends is cool.
Just for RE fan, and stupids fools how pre-order it

I'm a beta tester and basicaly the problem with this game it's that is very old.
The GAMEPLAY is the same as the series with a 10% upgrade new moves are suposed to make up for the horrible controler configuration.
The GRAPHICS are simple: LOOKS LIKE A FIRST GENERATION PS2 GAME(I.E BLOOD OMEN) PSX-like textures, really bad collision efects, the same pre-rendered backgrounds copied from resident evil 2 and pasted directly into OUTBREAK.
The PRESENTACION is not the best, a very standard story (during the events of RE 2 and nemesis, the game has diferents characters but all basically play the same (little or none diference), the story never changes for all the different players.
SOUND: THE ONLY COOL FEATURE IN THIS CIRCUS THAT MOCK US PROUD PLAYSTATION 2 USERS, IT HAS SOME REALLY COULD TUNES, NICE USE OF THE SILENCE ELEMMENT, THE SOUND (OR THE LACK OF IT) WITH THRILL YOU, BUT THERE ARE ONLY A FEW OF TRACKS AND SOME OF THEM FELL LIKE A MIDI FILE, A MIDI??? WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!!!!!!
ONLINE FEATURES: The primicy of an online features end in decepcion when you realise the sad true MONTHLY FEE: 15 DOLLARS, YOU RICHIE RICHS ARE ASKING "CHEAP, BUT WHAT WE GET FOR THAT??", well you get this
-A RACOON CITY THAT FELLS EXACTLY LIKE THE PAST RESIDENT'S EVIL, ONLY WITH THE RACOON UNIVERSITY AND THE UMBRELLA COMPLEX IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS RESIDENT EVIL 2, EXACTLY THE SAME.
-THE OTHER SURVIVORS OF THE CITY (ONLINE USERS, ARE RANDOM-CHOSSE, SO YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY WITH PALS, ALSO THE IS NO LOBBY AND THE LOAD TIMES ARE REALLY LONG)
-THE SAME LOADING TIMES AS THE PAST RESINDETS EVILS, YOU'LL FEEL IN THE PSX-ERA ALL OVER AGAIN WITH IT'S STUPIDS DOOR-OPEN THAT SCREAM LOADING.... LOG INTO THE NET WILL TAKE A LIFETIME (5 MINUTES OR PLUS).
-NO KEYBOARD SUPPORT, NO MICROPHONE SUPPORT, IT'S HURT THE ONLINE EXPERIENCE. IT HURTS BAD
-WHEN YOU TURN INTO A ZOMBIE MEANS THAT YOU'LL CONTROL A REAL STUPID CHARACTER THAT MOVES IN SLOW MOTIONS AND THE ONLY WEAPON IN HIS DISPOSAL IT'S CALLED "BITES". WOW NICE WEAPON YOU GOT THERE. THE ONLY THING YOU'LL BITE WILL BE BULLETS....AND LOT OF THEM.
-THE CO-OPERATIVE MODE IN ONLINE FELLS LIKE CONTROLLING CARLOS AND REBECCA IN NEMESIS, YOU' CAN TALK WITH YOUR PARTNER, YOU HAVE TO USE SOME SORT OF "EMOTICOS" TO TALK WITH HIS, IT'S LIKE PLAYING A CHARADE
-AND THAT'S ALL YOU CAN'T GET HERE THAT YOU WON'T GET IN THE PAST RESINDET OF COURSE YOU'LL SPEND $230+ TO PLAY THIS PIECE OF CRAP, WITH THAT MONEY YOU CAN GET A GAMECUBE AND RESIDENT EVIL 4, RESIDENT EVIL 0.
I RECOMMED BUYING RESIDENT EVIL 4, THIS GAME IS'T NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE, NINTENDO PLAYED BICK BUCKS FOR IT TOO BE NINTENDO-ONLY, ALSO I THINK IT ALSO PLAYED CAPCOM TO MAKE THIS GAME A BOMB (BUT REAL BOMB)
