I understand that the online component to this game is a large part of what makes it so well-received. For the vast majority of us who are stuck with single-player only, this game is good, but not distinguished.
Gameplay remains virtually unchanged from Ratchet 2, except that a number of features of Ratchet 2 (and Ratchet 1) have been dropped, not the least of which is the grind boots and skateboarding levels. While the games have always been linear, this one takes it to an extreme; few levels have the branching pathways that were de rigueur for the predecessors.
In the game's defense, it still is a heck of a lot of fun. And the voice acting/humor level is pretty good for a video game. But for a player not taking advantage of the online elements, its Greatest Hits predecessors will give you a lot more bang for the buck (assuming you haven't completed them already).

Well the Ratchet & Clank series is the best. The 2nd one, Going Commando, really outdid the first one and I'm sure the same can be said for this one too. It will feature 25 weapons both old and new, new hi-tech gagets, and bigger and more beautiful levels. But thats not all. This game will also feature a all-new multiplayer mode with online play. I'm sure that will be loads of fun. With the online play coming and everything, will the single player action still be fun? I mean, since the online play seems pretty rich, will the single player section still have alot of levels, well, hopfully more. Anyway, no matter what, I'm still getting this game.
Blasting good time with loads of humor along the way

Ractchet and Clank is a great formula and it continues in a big way with Up Your Arsenal. With RNC you aren't doomed to wander around a soggy dungeon in order to blast away and the baddies. You get maximum vision in high-tech atmosphere that allows you to pick from a dizzying array of weapons in order to decimate the robots and monsters lurking around every corner.
You that have tried this series know all that. For the [lucky] return players there are some improvements in this 3rd installment that will make you glad you came back. While not a giant improvement, the graphics have been upgraded in the form of higher polygon count enemies and more detailed textures. I also love being able to fill up my ammo reserves at the vendor with one click instead of doing it one by one.
And the humor! Did the folks at Insomniac bankroll some top comic writers or are they that cool? In most games you want to impatiently click past the movies that set up the scenes but here you'll want to grab some popcorn. Consider the crayon comics drawn by Quark, the scene where the evil Dr. Nefarious has his assistant using bogus sign language to communicate to the hearing impaired. More laughs than a Ben Stiller movie.
My son comments that he misses some of the fun weapons from Going Commando. And sometimes you run out of ammo too soon before you get a continue point or a vendor. Also Going Commando had some fun helper robots that could hammer and build bridges. This version does have a nifty feature that allows you to use some of the older weapons if you have Going Commando files saved on your PS2.

I am a Playstation gamer of a serious magnitude. I am constantly in search of an exhilarating game to keep me slaving into the night, pushing myself to conquer that last level or boss. Many games have disappointed me in the past for their feeble story lines, or facile levels that consume no amount of though at all. I had almost given up video games as a whole for the reason of simply not enough challenge until my friend bestowed upon Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal as a birthday present. After experiencing first-hand this game's depth and quality, I have know idea why I would even consider letting go of video games.
First off, is the never-ending story line that Up Your Arsenal presents. The story line would trick me repeatedly by always giving me one more level to beat before I faced the boss. This was a good thing because only a handful of games keep you on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. All of the levels are diverse, very interactive, and detailed beyond the standard video game. Enemies gradually become harder in coordination with the story and your skill. All of the adversaries are different with each level. For instance, Aquatos is an underwater level filled with sewers and slime, and the enemies there are fierce sewage creatures covered in a poisonous slime that rise from the polluted liquid beneath you. Vast ranges of deadly enemies begin to show themselves toward the end of the game to keep the player enthralled throughout the whole journey.
Next to Halo 2, this game has more weapons than any other game I have played not including all the extra gadgets that you earn and buy. Unlike Halo though, each weapon had a unique and different technique in terminating the enemy. Weapons can also be upgrade as far as Version 8 for maximum performance. These qualities make each gun an adventure in themselves. After talking with fellow RC:UYA online players and conducting polls of a favorite weapon on forums, most people seem to like the Flux Rifle as the weapon of choice as well as the Blitz Gun. Players showed a disliking for the Mini Rocket-tube because of its difficulty to dodge, and the wrench for its impracticable use in tight situations. All of the weapons are a definite plus in the game.
In most games purchased, the online section is a plus, but not the main reason to buy the game. That is not the case for the online adventure in Up Your Arsenal. There can be hundreds and even thousands of players on at a time. The layout of the online system is very accessible, so communication is easy and the search engines are always up-to-date with the most current player online. Everything online is organized and simple enough for an eight year-old, but mature enough for a player of 18 years of age. That is a convenience because I know kids online just starting the sixth grade and adults acquiring there bachelors degree. I still have not found a pedophile out of any of them. The levels are similar to the ones in story mode, but altered for multiplayer activity. There is a choice of levels that are massive and require patience and strategy, and small levels that fire great competition, chaos, and adrenalin. The same goes with the weapons, slightly altered for an even more different feel that drifts the player away from the story mode. The online is the highlight of Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, and if for no other reason, should be bought for the thrill of talking to kids across the country while competing for live stats that rank players on there performance.
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal has not gotten old for months and I still thrive to play it everyday. It is ironic that the activities before I got RC:UYA were the ones that I had substituted for video gaming, and now I have replaced this game for all other hobbies of mine. Between beating story mode, weapon upgrades, and the online adventure I have no regrets of playing this game day in and day out. I think the perfect 10 out of 10 given by PSM magazine to Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal can back me up on that.

This game, like the two that came before it, is just plain fun.
The graphics are wonderful, the script is often hilarious, and there is a lot to explore. The challenges are difficult enough to keep you interested, but not so hard that you get frustrated and want to stop.
And don't forget about all the great weapons and gadgets!
I would recommend this game for people of all ages.
a must have!!!

this games rocks! i saw this review that said something like ratchet and clank being the next halo, i cannot understand how someone can compare halo one of the worst games to a masterpiece like ratchet and clank. this game actually has a point to it. i have both ratchet and clank and ratchet and clank going commando and i beat them both. these games are so addictive u cant stop playing them, even if u loose, its unlike other games were u get bored and give up in this one u will continue playing until u beat it and possibly not even go to school the next day because you will be playing this game for over 24 hours straight. and after u beat it there is so much more u can do, with so much options and bonus levels. i cant wate till i get this one. this is trully a must have for ps2.
BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has some nice new wepons, but it is alot harder than Ratchet and Clank 1 or 2. I thik it must have been intended to be played online rather than single player, I just find it hard to get past some of the enimies early in the game, if there were two or more people blasting away it would be simple. If I had a broadband connection I would try playing online but I don't. I wish there was some way to use these new wepons while playing Ratchet and Clank 2, they did offer the wepons from the first game to be purchased in Two. I can't find any Game Shark codes for this game, It might be more fun witn infinite life, Both 1, and 2 had many codes but not this one.
