A different take on Kombat

I recently played the Demo for this game and I will say it is rather fun. I would prefer to have been able to select more than the two characters as over the years I have had different characters who are my favorites. The game does continue with the Kombat blood and gore action savagery although much of this is blacked out on the demo version although the audio is played. The action that occurs sounds rather grim! Shoalin Monks actually appears to be a very modern take on the old classic game Double Dragon where you have the two characters take on an entire mob. As in Double Dragon you can pick up and use objects against your foes (swords, rocks, and even skulls). Many of the old Kombat fight arenas are the locale for story line even those that were just added in Kombats last installment MK: Deception. I am eagerly anticipating the release of this game as it is definitely a fun game to play as I find myself playing the demo constantly. This is a mature game so parents don't buy it for the kids

SHAOLIN DISCIPLES

Mortal Kombat, next to Street Fighter, is my all time favorite fighting series and has been since Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Already with a slew of games in a decade long catalog, it's about time they focus on two of the most important fighters in the entire series. In the spirit of "Mythologies", "Shaolin Monks" offers background stories on Liu Kang and Kung Lao after the first Mortal Kombat. The graphics are a little dusty but the brand-new fighting system more than makes up for it. You don't even need to pick up the manual to drop all sorts of ass-kicking on Oni-demons, dark wizards, and Shang Tsung's guards. On top of that, the fatalities are more raw than ever, with each person getting 5 to choose from. Don't worry though, if you get sick of the shaolin disciples, you can choose between Scorpion, Subzero, and Baraka as well. Instead of adding new characters and making ish complicated, "Shaolin Monks" chooses to pay tribute to the classic characters that made us love MK from the jump. For the dedicated MK fan, it's a brand new system of fighting, but with a nostalgic touch.

Nice Change of Pace!

This game follows a similar formula to "MK Mythologies: Sub Zero", except the gameplay is much more well done and enjoyable. You play as Liu Kang and Kung Lao (or Scorpion and Sub-Zero by unlocking them). The story takes place at the end of the first Mortal Kombat tournament and proceeds through the tournament of "Mortal Kombat II" in Outworld. The game has a lot of replay value, though the final boss (Shao Kahn) is very difficult to beat if you're not fighting as Liu Kang ( since he fires projectiles the fastest). Now that the price is down to $29.99, the game is more than worth it's price! Even those who aren't fans of Mortal Kombat will enjoy this, but only the fans will catch the nostalgia from the old "MK II" game.

Shaolin Monks is by far my favorute mortal kombat game. This is the only game if i am not mistaken where you could go on an adventure with kung lao. Now the graphics are good but they could have mapped the faces better but instead they actually modeled it. That really sets it off i am a 3d-artist and i know how hard it is to make charecters but the cloth in this game is really nice to very realistc. enough of that lets get on to the storyline, this takes place right before lui kang fights shang tsung in other words right before the end of the first movie basically next kung lao comes in. After shang stung is almost defeated goro comes in and beats all of Raiden's warriors. Raiden comes in but the floor breaks and kung lao and liu kang are trapped in goro's lair this is where the game starts. Gameplay is very easy to learn and fatality's are easy to perfect this game also has kind of a leveling up rpg twist to it which makes it unique(note it is still fighting)! The game modes in this are ko-op, single player, and versus mode i rated this 5 stars because it has a very nice storyline very original I would say and a unique battle system.

Loved this game

This game is easy to pick up and start playing. I was hesitant that this was not in traditional Mortal Kombat fighting game. I was pleasantly surprised as I started playing this game. I love the story, the cut scenes, the secrest/hiddden stuff, of course my favorite the Fatalities with lots of blood and gore!!! The only thing I found annoying was the camera angles for both single and co-op play. Oh another thing I didn't like is sharing life meter with player 2 when on co-op play. Overall this game is a whole lot of fun.

Shaolin Monks takes place during the Mortal Kombat 2 timeline. The opening scene shows Shang Tsung, Goro, and the other evil enemies escaping to Outworld in pursuit are those warriors from The Order of Light, allies Lu Kang and Kung Lao. After a nearly fatal disaster, the duo make their way to Outworld where the action begins.

This is definetely the best Mortal Kombat game I have ever played, and I own all of the games. I love the change from just fighting people to a huge action-adventure....adventure. Not only is this the best game of the series, it's also the goriest. It gets a 5+ for blood'n'guts. Hack people in half vertically AND horrizontally with swords and other pointy instruments, bludgeon enemies with a rabbit till they explode, cleave people's faces in half with a hat, break peoples limbs and snap their neck, set people on fire until they melt into a pile of blood and entrails, slowly hack off people's limbs, impale people on catapults and fling them at buildings and make them explode, crush heads, every move involves copious amounts of blood flinging everywhere, and TONS more. BUY IT. I'm brainwashing you. BUY IT. BUY IT. Trust me, you'll love it.

not too many choices for single player :(

the reason i dont rate it a 5 is because i have 2 big complaints for Mortal combat shaolin monks..This is by far the best fighter outhere,"THE" BESt" mortal kombat ever to hit a console...period!!! Its like the god of war of fighting games...for the single player mode, and im gonna go straight to the point...i dont have a partner to play with, so i gotta go solo on this...THE SINGLE PLAYER STORY MODE SHOULD HAVE BEEN JUST LIKE THE KO-OP MODE WITH THE HELP OF THE COMPUTER!!!!!!!!! i dont see why not!!!!!! ALSO THE VERSUS MODE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE FOR SINGLE PLAYER....IM UNLOCKING ALL THE SECRET CHARACTERS AND I CANT DAMM USE EM!!!!!!!! i dont expect my wife to be the second player, she doesnt like video games,, so im screwed!!!!! MIDWAY, TAKE NOTES ON THIS AND DONT SCREW THE NEXT GAME WITH THIS!!!! OVERALL, a total masterpiece but this issue messes it bigtime......
