This game is by far one of the best i've played. If you can't take it online, although its still good, you may want to wait. The offline tends to get frustrated and repeating quests over and over again to get money gets boring fast.
Pros:
+ Game works awsome online with no monthly charge
+ Armor changes the way you look as well as character customization, don't expect to find your game twin anytime soon.
+ Awsome quests
+ A large collection of weapons and armor to unleash your deadly rage.
+ Cooking, Fishing, Hunting, an more only add to the experiance.
+ Fights with Wyverns and online bosses like Lao feel epic every time.
+ Multible areas like the valcano or jungle.
Cons:
- No offline multiplayer
- Frustrating offline mode
- 1 star quests offline are boring and are nothing but tutorials that have to be done.
- Can only leave town if your on a quest.
- this game WILL make you hungry when your cooking. Dangit, that well done steak looks good.

Joshua Kyle Daniel

monster hunter, as stupid as the name sounds, looks quite impressive. The plots simple-your a hunter trying to make a living by hunting numerous monsters. What makes it so interesting is the gameplay mechanics and the online capabilities. There can be up to four people at once, each hunting for a certain monster. The game looks as if it will focus on cooperative strategy over all out combat. You'll have to work with your team in order to achieve victory and defeat the monster. Setting traps and using tools are what you'll probably have to focus on. In a trailer i saw, a lone hunter was being chased by a giant dragon-like creature. He lured the monster into a snare, and the others suddenly dropped in and began to hack away at the entangled creature. Very impressive. The game also looks beautiful. Lush jungle areas, barren deserts, and swampy forests were filled with a great amount of detail. Overall, the game looks great, and i hope to see it on dial-up when it comes out.

Monster Hunter Rules! Forget about the name, it is more prehistoric and D&D than ghosts & goblins but whatever you call it, call it one of the best games to come out in a while. What I really love about Monster Hunter is its boldness into the world of online gaming. I have never seen a game so ambitious in using new technology to raise the level of play, think Phantasy Star but with cooler weapons and lusher landscapes. I can easily play this for hours on end just even creating my own characters or devising weapons from dragon body parts. The graphics are fine, solid if not spectacular but the gameplay is excellent and I get immersed in the world of MH. I highly recommend this one, don't rent it- buy it, you will end up saving $$ unlike me who found out the hard way.

This is the best game of the year, period. The graphics are fantastic, missions are varied, ranging not only from monster hunting, but also foraging items and even trying to steal dragon eggs!! (Its harder then hunting a dragon, trust me..) This game is surely addictive and there is nothing in X-Box that could remotely compare with this game. (Another reason why you should not buy X-Box) This game offers great fun for the family for sure, yes there is blood, but nothing excessive nor anything just to add to the gore of the game. (Blood is just a indicator if you have killed the monster or just knocked it out for a while..) various mini quests such as fishing a specific fish for a villager, roasting meat for the village festival... you name it, Monster Hunter is great fun. I cannot wait for more people to get the game and play on line as monsters are getting harder to hunt down and missions are getting more complicated. Honstly, I hvae yet to hunt down a dragon as it is near impossible without team work. Definately the best game to play with friends online, consider the upside of PS2 game online, no annoying players coming to ruin your fun. Way to go Capcom!

Monster Hunter is a awsome game. Its the only game i play. I got Rachet and Clank 3, Prince of Persia 2, and Monstr Hunter for christmas. But i havent even touched those games and stuck with Monster Hunter through out this whole year. Its the best game i have. Heres a review;
Monster Hunter follows along the footsteps of your custimized warrior who... hunts monsters. You get 2 do quests of all sorts;
Hunting [Hunt a cerian monster/s]
Gathering [Seerch for certian item/s] &
Capture [Instead of hunting and killing, you hunt and then capture the monster alive]
The game itself has very fantastic graphics during gameplay also during the very few cut scences. Also another great part of Monster Hunter is once you take down a monster you can carve it, taking body parts from the monster which later u can use 2 make weapons, upgrade your weapon, craft armor, or sell. The game is very crafted in all the different combinations of armor u can get. So no 1 will look just like u. Monster Hunter is a MUST HAVE. GO OUT AND GET IT NOW. and for some reasson u dont like this game there must be something wrong with you.
Note* 2 all u gamers out there.
I cant wait till Monster Hunter G comes 2 the U.S. if it ever does. And if it doesnt then i'll wait till the sequel.

This is a good solid game, although its not perfect its still great. On the week days monday-friday theres around 200-300 people playing online, and over the week a good 500. So theres a pretty good fan base. This game is more like diablo than anything less in my opinion. You get quest got out with 3 other players hack in slash and complete the quest. Its also cool because no other game as based its theme only on dragons and dinoaurs. It would be cool if they made other monster hunter thats a mmorpg like ff11. Just a thought. Great game and for the price its all good, you be spending countless hours on this game, and it goods way to fast.
A Very addicting Game

When I got this game at a store no one knew anything about it so I was a little worried at first. When I started playing it it was a little hard to get the gontrols right but then the game got awsome. I like how you can hunt and or fish for food when you get farther in you can hunt dragons and upgrade yourself and the world is huge. Overall I love this game
One of the best games i have played in a while.

Monster Hunter is Capcoms most recent online adventure for the ps2. If you have read reviews about this game in a magazine or on a website, chances are they said this game was outdated and boring. This is not true at all. Look at monster hunter and you will see the landscape Capcom has prepaired, true, some parts look a little painted on, but its still an awesome view. Now take a look at the monsters, which are the focus of the game. They look wonderfully detailed and (for the most part some of the later wyverns are grey =]) very colorful. Monster hunter's graphics are far from outdated. i've seen better but that does not mean they are junk. Now on to the important stuff, the game play. Monster hunters controls are solid, the lack of camera rotation that is automatic is a + in my opinion as it would be annoying if your sitting there and all of a sudden the camera moves and you cant see that dragon about to run you over. The games sheer customization level is awesome. Tons of cool looking weapons and armor are out there waiting for you to collect the materials for them. Then online after getting your rank to level 13, you get "hard mode" quests. The materials in this let you make even stronger weapons and armor. Now, the monsters. They come in all shapes and sizes ranging from velociraptor like things to Boars to, of course, dragons (or wyverns as the game calls them.) They are all wonderfully detailed and very cool to look at. Some, like the basic Kut-Ku, are not much bigger than you. However later on you will find the gravios which is a gigantic rocklike wyvern whos hard armor reflects your attacks! There are also a couple dragons which are in hard mode only, one of them is so huge that all you can see is scales. (aka he is huge.) A cool thing about the wyverns is that some of them have body parts you can damage and/or destroy. Many of the wyverns can have their horns and tails removed netting you extra items if you carve up the part (or for some body parts win the level.) Monster Hunter is a great game but it does suffer from some flaws, the most annying of which is the little oh-my-god-I-think-he-saw-me action your character performs whenever a large creature sees them, this can prevent you from getting out of the way in time when the monster launches an initial attack resaulting in severe pain. Also annoying is the fact that if you get hit by certain attacks multiple times (or even a couple attacks once) will make your character dizzy resaulting in, you guessed it, more severe pain. Also annoying is whenever you eat something or use a potion you character does a bizarre I-feel-powerful action that, if your healing in the middle of a battle resaults in paaaaaaiiiiiiinnnnn... Some of the quests are also a little unreasonable, like being forced to carry an egg all the way across a level, slowly, and you will drop it if A.you run to much and run out of stamina B. gewt attacked my a monster or another player online, C. you use an item or D. you unsheath your weapon. A few levels have you taking these annoying items across entire levels 3 times... T_T Also, if you hope to get your character into the upper league of players, you will HAVE TO BE ABLE TO PLAY ONLINE OFTEN. You must play online to raise your hunter rank and it takes quite a lot of devotion and time to get your HR anywhere above level 5. However despite what setbacks this game may have it is still a must-have for any ps2 onliner. Plus, its free to play online so you don't need to worry about paying a monthly fee. My final statement? BUY THIS GAME.
