monster hunter

in this game you would first create a character and when you finish creating that character you cant change it.
you would first start out in a village .you could do Quest like gathering items or slaying monsters. you could create weapons usig items from items that you have gathered.you could go online using the Network Adapter and play with friends and do quest.

First off I need to say that this is probably the worst job that capcom has ever done with a game.How do you make killing monsters not fun!?!The graphics are good when you look at your person and the monsters are not half bad either but the backgrounds are pretty bad.The combat it at the best sluggish and in single player the monsters are mostly smarter than you.
The camera is the absolute worst part of this game and personally if it was not for the online play I would never have even bought this game.

Cons
-You must spend at the least three days just to make some decent armour
-The camera sucks
-The backgrounds are repetative and glitchy
-Combat is sluggish and boring most times
-The game can get repetative in single player very very fast
-No offline multiplayer
-Besides monster and weapon sounds the effects are not impressive

Pros
-Online mode makes up for some bad parts
-You get to team up with three friends in online mode
-You can make more money in online mode then on single player
-You can make your own armour and weapons by upgrading them in multiple branches based on what kind of skills you want
-You get skills from your equipment not the classic level system
-Monster and weapon sounds make up for the repetative backgrounds music(s) and anooying character grunts

All in all I give it a three because of the multiplayer...
my advice-Dont buy this game unless you have a network adapter and dont expect to much for single player.Rent it first and see if you like multiplayer then buy it.

A game with great potential but also with nasty flaws

Wow, impressive. I wonder how many games that Capcom has made that, while being great and all, have some nasty flaws that'll drive you nuts saying "They could have easily fixed that, why didn't thay?" Not to say that MONSTER HUNTER is a bad game, it's acually pretty good, but the things that are/aren't in MONSTER HUNTER will make any smart gamer say "What were they thinking?" To start off, You are just a normal villager who's on his/her way to become a monster hunter(notice I said "his/her," you can customize your hunter before the game starts). You get money, and sent on your first quest. During a quest, you are allowed to search for items for selling or combining for money or other, stronger items. The item creation system in MONSTER HUNTER is deep, very deep, so deep that it adds replay value to the final game. Also during a quest, you probably won't become used to the controls for a while. Why? Because they kinda suck, you use the right analog stick for attacking with downstrikes and jabs and slashes. This isn't anything like Metal Gear Solid 2 where you push the right stick to make Raiden slash that way, pressing left, right, up, or down will only make you jab, slash, charge, or smash whatever's in your way. Plus there's no targeting system which only makes things harder and more frustrating. The camera sucks too, it's set to the d-pad and unless you're blessed with two thumbs in one hand, it'll be hard to play with much precision. There's a good amout of weopons to choose from, and weapon types. You can make armor and weapons that you get from monsters. This game has a lot of potential, but too bad the final game came out like this.

P.S. I forgot to mention that when playing online, you can't use a USB Headset, which really blows.

In the most primal sense Monster Hunter is an awesome tale in which you ravage dragons and monsters to save the good of mankind while exploring vast landscapes- yet Monster Hunter is not your average RPG, it is not even your average game period. This 3rd person action from Capcom is a genre defying experience of which we have not seen the likes of since the birth of the Final Fantasy titles. However, Monster Hunter takes the torch from the FFXI's and Everquest's with a stunning package of graphics, gameplay, sound, and most importantly features. I was amazed at the lengths these Resident Evil creators went to in constructing a lush and wondrous environment with freedom to develop character customization and ability to devise your own weapons from random objects or the carcass of your kill. Monster Hunter is a gamers dream yet plays easy enough to get newbies hooked. The real draw and added dynamic to an already captivating game is the online capability. Firstly the option is free unlike FFXI and truly changes the game and the quests. The online option can bring your party up to 4 players and you can mix and match between blademasters and gunners to best fit your mission, which makes a huge difference on some outings. Merely having the other players to interact with and communicate via USB keyboard adds an exciting dimension and makes a task like stealing a dragons egg and balancing it back to the village a lot easier. I was anticipating the 9/21 release since the surprise unveiling at eg3 and this one lives up to the hype. Monster Hunter is my vote for game of the year because it is the total package and one play will make you see this too.

the movies are not always the best way to tell if a game is going to be good, but I have a feeling from watching this game it will be very close. the graphics do not look overkill, but the gameplay I have seen more than makes up for it. the customization looks very expansive, and the armor looks like you would earn it from killing the monsters, or from what i can tell, are mostly going to be huge dragons. this game is definately first on my wish list.

I purchased two video games for my son's birthday. But Monster Hunter, needless to say, is the only one my son has touch because he loves this game.

The game is unique in the fact you can build your own charactor. You get to choose from a few different choices.

You go on missions and earn money to buy weapons and armor.

I got my money's worth already.

Have you ever looked down the blade of a sword, only to see a Dragon the size of small building staring back? This is just one of the situations you will find yourself facing in Capcom's Monster Hunter.

To start, the graphics in this game are some of the most believable in a game to date. The environments are a decent size, broken up into about 8-12 small area's. But the way Capcom has done it, you get the feeling you are truly in an expansive world. Subtle things like the rolling clouds, or the billowing smoke of an active volcano, just add to an already immersive experience.

Gameplay may be the drawback for some, as the control scheme can take some getting used to, and may frustrate the novice. The unique thing about this game, is upon slaying a monster, you have 1 minute to carve it up so to speak, and take pieces of it's body to create armor and weapons. Each monster giving different pieces needed, and all having unique attributes to lend in creating your items. Huge blades, and guns to match can be crafted to boot. Slaying monsters isn't all, there are capture quests, and item gathering as well.

Off-line this is strictly a single player run, but on-line gameplay allows up to 4 warriors on any one mission, and just adds to the quests and items you already have. If nothing else, give it a rent. Aside from a steep initial learning curve and difficulty, this game truly rewards the patient player.

Overall score: 8/10

Monster Hunter was a game I had been excited about for a while. Sad really... It could have been excellent. Oh well. First the good.
The whole item collection system is well-implemented and could have been a lot of fun. What, with the need to collect the ingredients for better weapons and armor? Sounds cool to me.
Another thing the game has going for it is it's multi-solution approach to hunting. Later on with some of the tougher monsters it's not as if you can just walk up and start hacking away. You need to set traps, like barrell bombs, poisoned meat, and pit traps. You also might want to consider some ranged weaponry.
The whole time limit on quests was annoying though. Theres no real way you can just go out in the wilderness and wander around collecting and hunting with no purpose. You have to have a quest to leave town, and you usually only have an hour or so to complete it. So not much time for side work there.
There is no real story line, but for this kind of game it didn't seem to be lacking for it.
What really kills this game, and I mean KILLS it is the absolutely ridiculous controls that make it NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE to satisfactorily control the camera to SEE WHAT YOU'RE DOING. You control movement with the left analog, while you attack with the right analog...
What about the shoulder buttons you say? Can't you swing the camera with them? No. Not really. You can use L1 to make the camera jump directly behind you, but then since the camera is static in this game (it just stays in the position you leave it in) if you're jumping around in combat what may be a good angle one second will get you killed the next. Especially in some areas where the camera decides to hide in the trees so you CAN'T SEE ANYTHING that's going on action-wise.
You can use the control pad to swing the camera around, but that means you can't move yourself and the camera at the same time. Unless you want to take your right hand and put it on the left side in order to control both pad and stick simultaneously... Of course you won't be able to attack then.
Oh, and if you're thinking' "I'll just change the controls to what I want them to be": Well Capcom's just given you the finger because there is no way to adjust this worthless control scheme.
Things wouldn't be nearly so bad if the game gave you some way of locking on to enemies, but that too is missing from this game.
I really wanted to like this one too. Hugely disappointing.

I think that this game is a great title for the ps2 but there was some flaws about the game, but what games doesn't have them. I manage to work around them, other then that this is a great game. I HOPE THAT CAPCOM COMES OUT WITH ANOTHER ONE FOR THE PS3 WITCH IS ALSO REALLY AWSOME. Overall I think Monster Hunter is one of ps2's greatest titles to be remember for a life time.
