AT LAST!, THE MEGAMAN COLLECTION IS OUT. THE BLUE BOMBER HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY HERO SINCE I CAN REMEMBER. IF IM NOT MISTAKING JAPAN RELEASED THESE GAMES FOR THE PLAYSTATION CONSOLE A WHILE BACK, BUT EACH GAME WAS ON A SEPARATE DISC. I WAS HOPING TO SEE THESE OUT FOR THE PS JUST LIKE JAPAN RELEASED THEM BUT INSTEAD I GOT MORE THAN WHAT I EXPECTED. EVERY MEGAMAN GAME FROM MM1 TO MM8 AND A COUPLE OTHERS NEVER RELEASED IN THE US, ON PLAYSTATION 2. GET YOURSELF A COPY BECAUSE THIS GAME WILL SOON BE VERY DIFFICULT TO GET AND WILL BE WORTH ALOT IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!!!!

The blue bomber's roots revieled on PS2

I'll openly admit it: I grew up on Megaman. Yes, I loved Mario and Sonic like everyone else, but the NES Megaman games always held a special place in my heart. That said, you can imagine my joy when I finally got the chance to play these classics again in Megaman Anniversary Collection. And guess what? They still hold up even today.
First, be warned, these games are hard. And by hard, I mean old-school hard. The kind of hard that just isn't in games anymore. Beating these games will put hair on your chest. But it's worth the effort. The games are very satisfying, and push the most die-hard gamer to his limits.
One of the nicest features of the package is the remixed soundtrack feature, which allows you to play the classic NES Megaman games with a completely remixed soundtrack (duh). The music in Megaman has always been one of the high points, making this a real treat, although hardcore old-school fans can turn the feature off if they so choose.
The game also features many bonus features, including the previously-unreleased in the US Megaman arcade games, as well as art galleries and even an episode of the classic Megaman cartoon.
For Megaman fans, this is money well spent.

Mega Man Anniversary Collection

The Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the Playstation 2 has all of the regular series Mega Man games, 1-8, on one convenient disk. This includes Mega Man 1-6 that were released on the NES, Mega Man 7 that was released on the SNES, and Mega Man 8 that was released for Playstation 1 and Sega Saturn.

The collection preserves the integrity of the classic games - they can be played exactly as they were on the NES and other systems. However, you have the option of selecting the "Navi Mode" from the options menu, which upgrades the music to higher quality for most of the stages on the NES games rather than the computer generated music that lacked a synthesizer, and also provides a graphically advanced menu system on these games. All of the music is upgraded on 4-6, with selected songs upgraded in this mode on 1-3. Oddly a couple of stages have music from 7 placed on stages in 3...I would have prefered if they didn't have actual remixes of those songs that they just left them as the original.

There are also some unlockable extras that become available as you beat more of the games. Among these are two bonus games, which are Street-Figher style arcade games using the Mega Man characters. These games apparently were arcade games released on Japan. In addition, music tracks, drawings, and even a full episode of the Mega Man cartoon are unlocked as you progress through the games.

This collection is great in that I don't have to keep all of those space-consuming cartridges around any longer and can still have and enjoy playing these games. This game loses one star on the "overall" ranking because of what was done to the ending of Mega Man 7. Apparently the main graphics of Mega Man 7 at the end were not compatible with the Playstation 2, and therefore had to be removed. The company which was hired by Capcom to port these games over claimed that is why the ending graphics to 7 were removed. However, they also removed the pictures of the robot masters that scrolled at the end - no reason for that. They could have also recoded the graphic, or even taken a video capture of the ending graphics and had them play in that format, or at least still picture shots to preserve the integrity of that game's ending. Ultimately the reason these graphics were missing entirely is not because of compatibility, given the options the Playstation 2 hardware would have provided, but pure laziness on the part of the publisher, and for that, the overall ranking loses a star.

I nearly freaked when I saw this game available. It brought back lots of memories from the NES and Jr High School. However, I do not recall Mega Man being SO DAMN HARD!!!! It looked exactly like I remembered it, and was just awesome to see it all again, and be able to play it, but I found it to be one of the most difficult games I've ever encountered. Maybe all the years of Playstation, N64, Gamecube, etc. has just made something so simple something very very hard. I wanted to love the game, and part of me did, I'm just glad I rented it and didn't buy it. Too DAMN HARD.

Who was in charge of play testing this game???

I bought the game even though I have an original NES & SNES with all of the games included on this disc & the Power Battles on MAME. I wanted to have smoother-looking graphics and non-mono music & sound effects (as is the case in the original MM 1-6 games). When I began to play, I thought I was having an off day. All of my jumps were a split second off; Mega Man moved a bit sloppy and reacted slowly. Alas, whoever play tested this game did not play the original versions which had lightning fast reaction and precision control as this version does not have the superior control of the originals. Perhaps the pressure sensitive controls that maqus1213 referred to are the culprit. Anyone who hasn't played the originals probably won't notice the control flaws, but to those who have, most will notice the imprecision right away.

Wow!!! Mega Man is back in a bigger and better way

What's up everyone. Just saw the review for the Mega Man Anniversary Collection game due to be out on June the 22. I think that for every Mega Man fan out their, you are going to love this game. I've been a Mega Man fan for all my life and am glad that Capcom has decided to rerelease the Mega Man series. And, best of all it's going to be on one disc that only cost 30.00 dollars. So, I give this review 4 stars. Only reason I gave this Mega Man Anniversary Collection 4 stars is that it's being featured on the PS2. Don't get me wrong, the PS2 has great graphics that will bring out the Mega Man Game. But, I just think with the XBOX or GameCube, they can bring out the Graphics for Mega Man a lot better. I own all three game systems and I would just like to see the Mega Man Anniversary Collection featured on all three game systems. I mean look at the game "Soul Caliber II", you can't tell me that Link did not look awesome on the Game Cube. Anyway, I can't wait until this game comes out. But, I think I am going to wait and hope that it is featured on other consoles. Peace!!

Mega Man the way it should be!

The Mega Man series was to me what The Super Mario Bros, Legend Of Zelda, and Final Fantasy series were to other video gamers. These are the games that I grew up with these games as a kid, and when I heard about this collection being released on the Playstation 2 (also availble on the Nintendo Game Cube and the Gameboy Advance), I was very excited. After waiting for three to four long months, I finally got my hands on it at my local Sam Goody Store. The tunes on each game and every level I play is like a song to me with some creativity added, unlike Super Mario Bros and Legend Of Zelda where they have the same tunes repeated all over again in every level. The 3rd and 4th Mega Man games are my all times favorites on here. The other games on are great as well. Long live Mega Man!

Ok... But missing somthing

Me being one of the biggest mega man fans (from Megaman 1 to Red sun and blue moon) was very happy to get this. After reading abot reversed controls on the gamecube version I baught this one instead. I love all the games and laugh at some of the bad graphics back then. The one thing missing is the X games! Those were my favorits ( X1 and X3 especially) Buy this one. It's woth thje money. But beware of the Gamecube version
