New MOH game worth the wait

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 4

Medal of Honor European Assault is the best game yet in the series. It is a lot more intense than the other games, with huge gun battles hard objectives to accomplish, but it's very fun to play. It feels so real, you have to find cover and ammo all over the place. Compared to other games, one fight scene has about 40 soldiers on the screen. You are always with 3 other soldiers which help you along the way, and you can command them to run ahead of you into the battle, but if they die, you're on your own. Another thing that's better is the med kits have crosses over them so they are easier to spot. You also get revives in this game so if you die you come back to life rather than starting over.

The game has 11 levels in it. You start in St. Nazaire, France. Then it's off to North Africa, then Russia, and you end at the Battle of the Bulge. All in all the game is great but I think there should be more levels in it, cause I've had it for two days and I'm already done with 6 levels. EA GAMES gets an "A" for this one.

Another mediocre offering

EA really sucks these days. They just make a bunch of mediocre sequels with minimal improvement, and set the marketing machine in motion. That is what they did for European Assault. The original MOH was good for its time, but with the capabilities of the PS2, this game should be much better. It isn't. This is a game that is lacking in both of the key aspects of any game, the single-player and the multiplayer modes. There is only one short single player campaign, and it isn't that great. Really, the only good campaign this game had was the marketing campaign. So that leaves the multiplayer, the heart and soul of any good shooter, and the weakest part of this one. The multiplayer aspects of this game are very limited. There are very few weapons and characters and you cannot unlock more in single player. There are only a few game modes, and there is no online support or networking support. The only way to play against your friends is with old school split-screen. It seems there has been little progress in this series since the original MOH came out for the PS1.

multiplayer................sigh

this game is pretty sweet, exept for the fact that you cant play with any bots in multiplayer mode! i bought this game mainly to play with my friends, because in the reviews, it said multiplayer player modes include capture the flag (CTF), king of the hill, and team death match. so i bought this game and selected multiplayer on the main menu. as soon as i picked the game type, i realized that there was no options for bots. the only way to play was 1on1 (or with a multitap, if u have a huge tv, otherwise your screen will be tiny, which is no fun) and since the majority of the game types are team based, ur screwed. CTF is about as entertaining as watching paint dry with only two people. and king of the hill is pointless with only 2, its like playing football with yourself. the game would have been perfect if the multiplayer in this game was like MOH rising sun's....
on the otherhand
the single player mode is very cool. my only complaint here is the game is way too short. i have beaten the game injust 2 days, although it was an enjoyable expirence. the 1 player gameplay is no longer u vs. the entire nazi war machine. in almost ever mission, u have plenty of help from your british (and russian) buddies. the 3 dudes that always follow u around are no help at all. i never bother with the command codes because it it useless. a word of advice DONT WAIST MEDPACKS ON THEM. i was clearing a building in the battle of the buldge level with my squad member and a german ambushed me. my squad member walked right in front of the german and out thedoor w/o firing a shot!
ANY WAYS the gamplay outweighs all of these little gripes i have.
BOTTOM LINE: if u enjoy the single player and dont care 2 much about the multiplayer, BUY NOW!

if u are looking for a sweet game 2 play with ur freinds, DONT BUY.
OVERALL this game IS AWESOME (minus the multiplayer) :)

EA has done it again

I got this game two days after it came out and I love it. You are a soldier named William Holt who commads a 3 man squad to help you through battle. Like all the other MOH games you are still fighting WWII(which is getting a little old). The graphics are not the best I have seen, but they are still up to par. The audio is great and sometimes builds up supense(ex: walking down a tunnel and hear gunfire and screams). The AI for the enimies is extremmely bad. You can just walk up to a guy and shoot him without him noticing and u can kill him in 1 or 2 shots. On the other hand, your squads AI is very good. They will take cover and actually kill enimies. There is a pretty nice blood spatter by the way. Much more mature than the previous MOH games. As William Holt cover is a must or you will be shot and killed. The machine guns, tanks, and grenades fullfill there real life deadliness. The controls are good and easy to get used to. Some things I didn't like was the amount of health and revives(when you die and come back to life, which really wasn't needed at all) you get. You get so many! The multiplayer has definitely improved. Ther are more modes including capture the flag. Overall, I reccomend you buying this game you will have a blast.

A lot of things missing

I agree with a lot of the people here. EA really could have taken a lot more time to develop a longer, and much more fun single player campaign. The multiplayer is very fun except the maps are small, the graphics suck, there aren't many places to hide, and finding weapons can be a hassle. The graphics in this game were probably the most dissapointing thing. I have played several Medal of Honor games in the past and they all had very good graphics for when they just came out. This game was very weak graphically and it almost took a little bit of the fun out of the game. Also the AI is very weak and they are all running around like they have their heads cut off. I do like the opportunity to move around a bit more, and that you have a three man squad, but they are a bit useless. Basically, if EA had spent more time tuning up the graphics, making a longer single player mode with better AI and a bit better gameplay the game would be unbelievable. In my mind the game feels like it is about halfway done. EA needs to really take time in making games, rather than trying to get the game out as soon as possible. So I give this game four stars because it has great potential to be one of the best games I have ever played but it falls just short. Oh and also the sound in this game was amazing. That was the only thign EA did perfectly. So maybe next time they will get it right.

No save, no bots, no co-op, no online, no AI -- No thanks!

This is just a rushed game, plain and simple. This feels like a game that would have been a good starting point, but not a game in the later part of a console cycle with a great pedigree as Medal of Honor. The bargain price and lack of advertisement sort of confirms the amount of effort used to produce the game.

The first thing that shocked me was no mid-mission saving or checkpoints. Huh? Did I suddenly get transported to the mid nineties? If so, remind me to buy some stock and housing. You die in the end of an hour long mission, you start the hour long mission from the very beginning! The only reason any game would not have constant saves is to mask the lack of playable levels by making the gamer repeat stuff over and over again. And, yes, that is the case here. What's really shameful is that the previous game in this series actually did have saves. I was near the end of the last level, about to complete the game when I died by a surprise rush of people. I am not going to waste another 50 minutes of my life to work on five minutes of gaming.

The other things that this game lacked that the previous game (Rising Sun) had is online and co-op play. There is a multiplayer, but there are no robots. So, unless you have a multi-tap, it's one on one. That is not much of a multiplayer at all.

There only 11 levels total. The first 6 are really just half the length of the latter 5. The look of the levels are usually dreary and monocolor at best (brown for the desert levels, white for the last 5 snow levels), and are just really dull. All in all, if you played all levels well and never had to repeat any part of a level, you'd have a grand total of about 7 hours of game play. Making this a rental if you really want to play this.

Other problems also exist in the game play. The first is that for some reason, after killing a person, ammo will appear but disappear really soon. This leaves the player with a dilemma, run to the ammo and die in the open, or really have no ammo and be a sitting duck. The squad that you "control" is a laughable joke. The AI that controls it is terrible. You will be hiding, pinned down, and your three squad mates will run around like head-less chickens right in front of machine gun fire. Complete idiots. Also, there are other bad aspects, like the introducing a cliched boss. Don't get me started on the tedium of grenade throwing. Random times, the aiming just would not work. Up close shooting is terrible. Many times, enemies will sometimes shrug off direct hits. I could go on and on.

There are some good points though. Levels 8, 9, 10, are actually pretty playable - well designed and somewhat fun. The sound is amazing. The game mechanics are spot on. Individually, the controls reward cautious, thoughtful game play. Given a few more months of development and fine tuning, a great game could have been produced. The game engine is there.

Pros:
Good general playing mechanics
Good sound
Good engine

Cons:
No save at any point of the mission
No co-op
No online
Horrible squad mates
Not many missions
Disappearing ammos/Lack of ammo
Monochrome like levels
Bad aiming
Bosses, why?

Hours to complete - 12 hours

Difficulty (on normal) - Medium/High

When i got this game o was so excited as i had played the first medal of honor: Frontline, which was an awesome game, this game is so crappy, it's unbelievable, graphics are N64 compatible, voices are all of sync with the person who's talking, oh and dont even get me started on the controlles for the game, they are so messed up, you will spend half the time you play the game just trying to figure out how to play it, overall this game is just another one of those games that ends up with a broken controller.
