Good on the PS2, but not great as the PC!

The story is engrossing, I have to admit that I really like this game. But there are a good amount of problems, A) Too few levels and the levels that exist are too short. B)Graphics are avg at best
and C)the jumping/falling off ledges so frequently gets tiring.

But the pro's do outweigh the cons.
A) Great sound, B) A deep storyline, C) Cool guns, D) Some of the levels will really make you think.
The bottom line is that if you like this game, get the pc version! You can get 35 more levels on it!!

Let me first say that I am a fan of the first Max Payne, however, this is not the same quality game. The flow of the game is choppy (and I am talking about the speed and processing of the game not the game story). The story is not that great either. Finally, the graphics are ok, but there should be more interaction with Max's environment. In this game, like the last one, if you walk up to an object not needed by Max, the object just goes flying and is not very realistic.

Even better than the first!!!

Wow, even though i just started playing this game, I love it more and more. If you thought that the first Max Payne was good, this is incredible. Max Payne looks better, and his stupid grin is gone. Instead, he has lots of differnt facial expressions. It also has a feature where you can have two differnt weapons at the same time, like a regular gun and a grenade. The graphics are great too. Instead of everything being bolted down, when you run into a chair, it falls over, or a table. Like in real life. And the bullet-time is so much better. He does spins and rolls while in bullet time. And killing more enemys in bullet-time makes his adrenaline go up even more and the enemys slow down even more.If you have a Play Station 2 and don't have this game yet, but it now!

This is a masterpiece one of it's kind.

This is an awesome great game I like it because it's more challenging than the first 1 being with out no cheats or any thing for it. The themes for each of the levels pretty much fit right in to what they say chapter by chapter, prolauge by prolauge. The somalirties between this and Enter The Matrix overall this is the one thats better Max Payne 2. This game is a lot easier with the players guide so I may strongly suggest that you buy the players guide along with this game for an easier under standing for a sucessfull defeat. And remember this is a product of Rock Star games one of the greatest companies out there for your gaming convience great game! This deserve an award!

First of all, this game is far too short and easy. The first Max Payne took me several weeks of near constant play to beat, this one was over in one weekend. Second, the "plot" sucks. It gives us no story at all for the first two parts and then wraps up with a non-sensical ending. My new girlfriend is dead so now I can accept the death of my wife. After killing a million identical "cleaners", Mona gets wacked and he's happy about it. Give me a frigging break. Oh yeah, I guess I should warn that there are spoilers in this review, though I'm not sure what there is to spoil. Third, when I shoot an enemy at point-blank range with a shot gun, I want him to fly backwards not fall towards me. The gunplay in the first one was so much more realistic, why the hell did they change it. Fourth, bullet time isn't really all that different from the first one, except that it's sepia toned and you spin around when you have to reload. And fifth, Max's personality has totally changed from the first game, (not to mention all the comicbook actors). All the humor has been drained from his character, leaving him dull and unengaging. The only good things about this game are that you get to play Mona (she does very nice cartwheels and somersaults) and there aren't any exasperating "follow the trail of blood in the dark" dream levels. Overall, if the developers and writer would have spent more time creating a worthy sequal to the incomparable original, they would have my $49.99 in a heartbeat. As it stands, one rental period was more than enough.

Even if you haven't played Max Payne 1, you need this game. Its easily one of my top 3 favorite games ever. It is pretty short, but that didn't really bother me. The graphics, sound, gameplay, story, everything is top notch. At times I felt myself only playing so I could see what happens next in the story. It grabs you like a movie.

Its a pretty challenging game too, even if you do quicksave a lot.

The game play of Max Payne 2 never seems to get old, the AI is harder and the missions are more detailed and provocative, just like they should be. There really isnt a big difference between Max Payne 1 and 2. Bullet Time has been changed slightly and the guns weaker (this is a good thing, you'll see why). The ONLY thing that brings this game down from a 5 to a 4 is that ITS SO SHORT!!!! I was able to beat the game in a day and a half. But, with so many extra difficulties and things to unlock, this game will never get old. I fully reccomend getting this game.

This game would be very good if it were not just an above average sequal to a great game (Max Payne I). Compared to other shooters it is quite good, with plenty of action, fairly realistic, and good controls. But compared to the original Max Payne it was a dissapointment.

The game includes many familiar people from the original, and makes a new story stemming from the old one. The only problem is the plot is weak in comparison. In addition, many of the familiar faces and voices of the original are different. For example, Max is a much older and mature man, though supposedly not much time elapsed from the original story of Max. Vlad suddenly becomes a young man in this version with a different face and voice. Mona returns somehow as a differnt looking and even more seductive killer, now with a different face and body and a charming English accent.
(Even a love scene.... Not bad for a computer generated woman). Other characters reappear with differnt faces, bodies, voices and ages.

My only guess why the characters were changed is because a differnt company bought the rights to this video game, and created the sequel using their own style. Still good though.

Pros:
Good (not Great) plot and story.
Decent character and weapon control (xbox version).
Sexy Mona.

Cons:

This "Love story" is a little corny and maybe should not have been made for the sequel to Max Payne.

Overall, a poor sequal if compared to the original. By itself, a good game, if no sequal to compare with.

This version looked too much like something played on Play station 2 and not the Xbox.

The comic strip additions replacing realistic faces was a bad idea.

Overall:

Good game. Worth buying. The original game is much better.

Some mature rated things were taken out of this game.....

this versian of max payne is not very good.
I played this at a friends house even though I have
max payne 2 on my computer, and they took out some
lets say "Adult" cheats....
Yes thats right there is something in the pc versian of max payne 2 that the x box and ps2 versian dont have. Mona in full Frontel Nudity.....Yes If you saw a brief scene with mona in the shower that is all you will get in the ps2 and x box versian.....But..In the pc versian there is a cheat were you can play mona with nothing but her gun if you know what I mean.
And every thing is detailed in her body including her t**s and other places you dont want your 14 year old to see..
Basicly the pc versian of max payne 2 is the original MATURE RATED versian, but the ps2 and x box dont have that cheat.
The graphics on the ps2 dont match up the awsome graphics of the pc versian.

Bottom line is if you wanna see great graphics and great game play...not to mention explicit nudity...than get max payne 2 on pc than xbox and ps2. It's your choice.

Max Payne is AWESOME. BUY THIS TODAY!!!

Awesome sequel to a great game. BUY IT FOR CHRISTMAS!
Bullet-time has a new spin that will amaze you. Graphics are truly awesome ( especially on Xbox ). Music and sound effects will emerse you into this game for hours. Don't beleive the nonsense about it being too short or easy. The cut scenes are shorter from the 1st one, so the action is less interupted and makes the game much smoother to play. PLese buy this game. You won't be disappointed.
Also, Parents will be happy that this game has less sex and profanity so they won't have to worry about buying this for thier kids. Pick it up for a Christmas gift. The kids will love you for it.
