This game is one of my most-loved, all time favorite games released on the PS2. Now that I see it on here, as a GREATEST HITS TITLE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO RETAIL FOR 20 BUCKS, BRAND NEW, why is it selling for near 35 new? Completely ridiculous.
All price complaints aside, if you haven't picked this game up, you really need to give it a shot. One of the coolest aspects of the game is how it really draws the player in using multiple aspects of sensory envelopment; the mysterious guide who verbally progresses you through the game can be heard outside of the game if you have a USB headset. The graphics, while not the best, definitely help draw the player into the gritty, dystopian atmosphere. Difficulty level can be relatively tough at times, especially if you are trying to gain the highest rating you can for a stage to unlock all the hidden features.
Overall, this game comes recommended. Just be warned that this game focuses on brutal killing of your enemies and psychotic adversaries; this game is DEFINITELY not for kids.
I've beaten the game.

I've had this game since the year it came out. I've heard positive things about it so I bought it. Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City were all over the media but this game is worse. This is a part of the genre of suspense and survival horror. It is very dark, protagonist is surviving from homicidal men, keeps players curious, and contains the gore and violence in a horror film/game/book.
Manhunt is about James Earl Cash. James is a prisoner on death row and is lethally injected. Mysteriously, he wakes up and wanders in camera filled environments with only him and homicidal gangs. A man communicates by mic with him and commands Cash to kill these men on camera execution style. Cash just wants to make it out of this situation by confronting the snuff director. The man communicating with Cash is directing the show. The director is foulmouthed and is entertained by Cash's killings(most entertained by level 3 executions). The director sounds insane and evidently suffers a addiction to murder.
The game gets boring at times. There's not much dialoque and it may take a long time to get an execution. The executions are gruesome. There are weapons like hammers, sickles, machetes, hatchets, bats, crowbars etc. There are three levels of executions on each weapons. Level 1 being less gruesome to level 3 being the most. The visual and audible nature of the executions are realistic and not for the faint of heart.
I've beaten the game and it was hard but I did it. There is a twist after the credits.
Manhunt 2 will come out rated M. There were some changes made compared to the AO version. Some executions were censored and some were removed.

One of the hardest games I have ever played, not just in gameplay but in terms of repeated violent imagery. I'm sure my mouth was wide open is shock for about the first half of the game, then I just got numb; Needless to say, this is still one of the funnest, most challenging, most 'I want to get my revenge' kind of games I have ever played. Make no mistake: True to Rockstar common practice, this game can be a total [...]; But little by little you get through it, and there lies the rewards. Just like Vice City or San Andreas, you have a sense of accomplishment when you're done; Plus it's a ride that you won't soon forget. Manhunt is so genius it's scary.
Great game!!!

First off many people complain about the gore but I like it I think it adds to the action. It also has so many weapons its crazy from the plastic bag to the sawed off 12 gauge shotgun they are all good. The new radar system is ingenious not being able to see anyone on radar if they are not moving are talkin is great! My favorite weapon is the Hand Axe because if you hold the square button down long enough you chop their neck. The only downsides are no choice in characters, no customizable outfits, and no brass knuckles! So lets review.
Pros:+ Great graphics
+ Great gameplay
+ Large amount of weapons
+ Very fun when you get a kill
Cons:+ Can be a bit slow at times
+ No customization
+ No choice in characters
There you have it despite the bad things this is still a five star game and worth buying.
Very violent

The setting is around a death row inmate, James Earl Cash, who society believes is dead. After he is sent to the execution chamber, he awakes into another room to find out that he's being used as a pawn by a man named Starkweather, a sadistic millionaire who has the police dept. on the take. He uses Cash to kill gang members and anyone else Starkweather doesn't like. Cash has to sneak up behind the gang members and execute them. When this is done, the camera does a close up of the execution, and they are quite brutal. Cash is able to do 3 levels of executions white, yellow, and red. The darker the color, the more vicious the killing. Lots of weapons which include: plastic bags, knifes, wire, staple guns, sniper rifles, pistols, revolvers, machine guns, shotguns, and a chainsaw. This game isn't for those who don't like the violent, blood, gore, cursing(lots). Hence the M rating. But if your into violent games, you'll like this one.
I finished and Tipper Gore would still have a heart attack!

This is a rewrite of a previous review. I have now completed the game and have raised the score to 4 stars from 3. Here's why;
The sense of dread one receives when playing "Manhunt" is undeniable. The scenes are dark, the music is chilling and the blood flows freely as Rockstar leaves no stone unturned in the gore genre with this release.
James Earl Cash is saved from execution only to be turned into director Starkweather's (the snuff movie master) stalking, muderous puppet. As Cash is launched from death row into a society at its lowest rife with senseless murders, snuff movies, corruption, racisim and just plain waaaaay over the top violence.
I really enjoyed Manhunt, though it could have been equally effective without Rockstar's insatiable desire for bloodlust. There really hasn't been a game like it (conceptually at least) as far as I am aware. The stealth aspects of sneaking up behind and 'snuffing' unsuspecting 'hunters' are really neat and extremely well done. Some of the snuff scenes are so violent, they will flat out make you squirm.
Turns out Manhunt is much more of a story than a mindless, murderous rampage. The other reviewers reveal most of the plot, but lets just say you start out senselessly killing people at the direction of Starkweather. Not really sure why you're doing it, but you've been saved from certain death only to end up fighting for your life in the seediest sections of Carcer City. The plot slowly forms until you realize your a pawn in a huge 'snuff movie ring.'
Hopefully you can get over the senselessly violent stuff, but it is an essential part of the story. The plot is great stuff and what I've come to expect from Rockstar. Wait until you fight 'Piggsy', talk about a nightmare.
Definitely worth the [] bucks. Weeks of entertainment, challenge and unmatched gore.

i bought the game the other day after a long tine from my wife suggesting that i would like the game due to the fact that i am a big fan of the gta series as well as max payne.
to me i love this game you have to use your brains to get through the levels and to stay alive.
the basic concept is that you are a man that is being hunted by hired killers all the while you are being video taped.
great feel as well as great enviroments also love the idea how you are blind to the hunters untill the hunters start talking or whistling etc. in which show where the hunters are.
i would tell people to go out and buy this the other thing i do want to mention is that rockstar games have the guts to go out and produce games as in gta series as well as this game that is nothing but pure fun if it wasnt for people like rockstar i would say we would be playing nothing but ahem pg rated games.
anyway the con to the game is the controls and sometimes the approach when you try to finish a hunter off is sometimes a pain.
i love the concept of the game great imagination went into this.
also love the finishing off shots you cant get more real than that.
you also have a variety of weapons to use as well as a variety of non weapons to use to bring the hunters close to you so u can jump the hunters and finish them off.
if you are into mature games and like max payne or like the gta series then this game is right up your alley.
there are alot of hiding spots to use as well as enviroment objects to use as well.
this is a five star game and well worth the time to play if you had a bad day at work etc. well this is the game for you to releive stress i tell ya.
Manhunt - Very Good

For starters this game is not by any means recomendable for people below the age of 20 years old. this game is very violent, and even though the violence is never glamorised, it is a very cruel game. now, the main point i wanted to make in this short review, is how rockstar in my case, made a point with the violence. when you kill someone, the first time, you feel ok, it was nice to kill that person, but then the director speaks to you through your earpice, and congratulates you, and by the time you have killed several people, he starts talking to you more, and speaking to you just before you kill the person, saying things like "Come on Cash, nice and slow" and after a while, at least in my case, you began to regret killing the people that you are about to kill. it is a very effective way in making the audience hate killing the people they are meant to kill.
Interesting game, not worth more than $10

Manhunt is a very strange game. Gruesome yes! Blood and violence to the highest level. The great graphics will put you into the game itself. Rockstar have made some great games, however I believe they had something with Manhaunt and I strongly believe they did not use this theme to the fullest.
The first Hour of game play you will be electirfied by the exicitement. But honestly, over time the fun factor goes down. Repetition comes alive and the game will become boring. Regardless what level you make it, same old things. Remember Twisted Metal Black? It's fun but over time it gets boring, Manhunt is the same, maybe if Manhunt was mulitplayer than it will be a all time favorite
fun game

there is like 153 reviews if this game, i didn't bother to read morethan 5 or 6, but in my experience it is a great game. The story is nice, and the graphics are cool.
Perhaps it is kinda slow in the beginning, but it gets real nice once you start using firearms. Nothing better then shotting one of those sick evil characters in the noodle and putting there good for nothing lives to an end.
Pigsy, is also quite in interesting character, too bad that not much of his story is revealed. He dies a very nice death and it is fun killing the poor mutant.
Nice game, yóu will like it if you enjoy games with a lot of fire power, just be patient in the begining.
