Everybody views sequels as something different. Some people feel that most, if not all, sequels are doomed to fail. You are taking a game that was good, and trying to replicate what made it good. But in doing so, you're just beating the game to death. Some people feel that sequels are only good if you change the game play around, so that you bring in some of the old that made it popular, but you have changed things up enough to make it it's own unique game.
I like to imagine sequels as courses in college. You start with your intro course, get the general overview of the entire topic, and then you move up to your second level courses, where you see some of the deep specifics and you learn some basic facts. Then, if you're still interested you move onto your upper level classes. Split offs from the general courses, these upper levels focus on one part of the subject, letting you focus on your favorite parts of the subject. What does this mean?
It means that if the sequel contains enough parts that you liked of the first one, in the right percentage, than you'll like it.
I enjoyed Hitman 2. I think I would have enjoyed it as a game by itself, almost as much as a sequel. But I don't think I could have appreciated it as much. A lot of the classic game play was revived with this sequel, strangling people, dragging them to corners, hiding their bodies, taking their clothes. Sniping from far away, running in guns blazing, or any other creative way you found to defeat a mission. Occasionally in Hitman 1 I felt that the game was limiting, a few missions felt like you had to do it this certain way to win. Not the case in Hitman 2; I never felt like the way I just finished the mission was the only way I would have been able to finish it. There were other ways; I just chose not to pursue them.
As for the story, well it was there. Sadly the story often takes a back seat in Hitman 2. In this case, your friend gets kidnapped and you go back to the agency to get help in finding him. They agree as long as you do a few missions for them, apparently you're still in demand after your vacation. So they send you to this place where your friend was seen last, but he's not there. Then you go on a whole bunch of missions that have seemingly nothing to do with your friend. They're just to earn some money for yourself and the agency. It would have been nice if they had gone back to the story line more along the way, but eventually they take you back to it.
Anyway, over all it was a good sequel. There's not much that I didn't like about the game itself, though it would have been nice to have the sniper rifle in a suitcase back. But other than that, I look forward to the next installment!

I am a fan of such titles like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, GTA3, The Getaway, and Midnight Club. Basically, I like violence and a little bit of a challenge, but not over the top difficulty. However, when it comes to Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, this game is too hard, needless to say, unless you're the King of videogames or an incredibly hard-core gamer.
I rented this game feeling quite excited to play. I sat down, got through the first part of the game, until it came to the first real mission, Anathema. First complaint: why is it literally impossible to sneak up on an enemy? Unlike titles like the GTA series, you cannot auto-target and save yourself some time. I was even sneaking up on the Mafia, and was behind a wall, yet they still saw me, and before you can do anything, they shoot you so excessively that you just die on the spot. They give you no time to react!
Second complaint: the controls. I have never played a game with such obnoxious controls! As some reviewers have previously said, when you are walking, if you turn another direction, the camera doesn't swing around his shoulder. You have to manually rotate it. This gets to be very annoying. It's great to be able to look all around you, but I would like to have that more in my control. You cannot even turn around to the camera to see the character's face. You just see that big, bald slaphead every second of the game, and I feel like punching him there! The character also moves completely unnaturally. He tends to slide around and shimmy and it just looks awkward.
In fact, the whole game just basically involves you shooting some Mafia men, and taking their clothes and dragging their bodies somewhere else (which I personally find somewhat disturbing and over-the-top), and then running around finding something and sneaking up on another guy to shoot him. If you kill one extra guy, the whole mission is failed.
Unless you're a hard-core gamer, this game will give you very little fun and quite a headache, and could be stuck on a mission for days. How much fun does that sound?
Don't buy this game

this game is not fun at all. why is it the trend nowadays for games to be boring and extremely difficult???? the controlling sucks. how are you supposed to move forward with one joystick, turn with the other, and shoot with another button all at the same time?? this game is reatrded and a waste of money.

Ok...first i would like to thank all those that gave this game a 3 star or under....your are not that smart....first off....the controller is quite easy to get used to...just play the first level..its a training level.
20 levels...only 5 of those are hard...about 10 are easy if u know wat to do and the other 5 are normal.
The freedom is huge. You get to do things you wont be able to do in other games... kill the mailman, take is clothes and flowers..go into da house, hide in da corner..wait wait NOW,KILL THE BODY GUARD..take his clothes and the golf club and kill the don..thats only half of level 2. The best thing is there are all sorts of ways to beat the levels. some levels also continue from others...makes you wanna be a hitman.
The graphics as well are very well indeed. so the music...there are ALOT of weapons..from fiber wire to dual SD ballers...from golf clubs to custom rifles. from anestetics to sawed off shotguns...from katanas to AK-47.PLUS u can replay a lvl over and over and get ranks based by aggresion and stealth.
Final words: MUST BE IN ALL PS2 LIBRARIES.
recommend as well: socom, splinter cell, timesplitters 2, racthet and clank

This game is awesome. I have pretty much played every action game for ps2, and this is by far the best one so far. The controls in the third person mode take a little getting used to, but it isn't a problem in the first person mode. The action is good, and the graphics are great. A must buy!
Much better than codename 47

Well hitman 2 is a great game to get
Gameplay:Switching through weapons, is pretty confusing, and the controlls are a little confusing, but if u can see past thos, u will enjoy dis
Graphics:The graphics are excellent, and very detailed. And very crisp as well
Sound:Exellent sound effects, and ok voice acting.
Value:This game seems so boring that I probobly won't play it again, or finish it, but seeing as how I'm starting to somehow go through missions with my guns blazin' I just might finish it
Overall:whoever said u can't beat this wit gunz blazin' I can prove em' wrong after dying like 8 times, but this game is enjoyable, especially if u are a fan of Metal Gear, and crave stealth games
Epitome of culturally insensitive; a moronic idea for a game

The Sikh community is appalled by images and text in
the sniper-themed videogame "Hitman 2" portraying Sikhs being killed within their most prominent temple, the Harimander Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple. Eidos 's choice to target a specific religious group in Hitman 2 is not only socially irresponsible, but also potentially dangerous to Sikhs worldwide, as their turbans have made them the focus of backlash attacks in the post-September 11th environment. By focusing on a religious minority and setting the violence in their sacred shrine, Hitman 2 mindlessly encourages racial and religious prejudice. I cannot allow videogame developers to use sacred religious settings to promote killings and intolerance. This game is an embarrassment to the entertainment industry-- DO NOT BUY.

I was really excited about renting this game. The graphics are nice, and the idea is great! But the weapon controls are about the worst possible ever. Aim with right stick and fire with R1 ?
That was about the worst I have ever experienced and I couldn't shoot myself in the foot by that method. This game ... Obviously the positive reviews were written by the developers.
