This game is the greatest(I haven't play san andreas yet)i've played so far.The detail of the cities it looks amazing and so does the cars and the choices of weapons are cool.Even though this game is amazing it has flaws. The load time is bad I mean like"I can watch the opening credits of spiderman and it will still be loading"bad.Sometimes the character can look a little blocky and i didn't understand the story for a while(I was 10 when I rented this game).Overall this game is brilliant and I love it.
To all the people who gave it one star:Yes i'm only 14 and i've rented it then eventually bought it.This does have violence but I got this game because I kept my grades up above a C.If you child likes to imiatate or you hate violence DO NOT BUY!!!its that simple.Read the ESRB rating first before buying.

I started the whole GTA thing with San Andreas, so anything compared to that is going to get a lower overall score. What can I say? GTA:SA is just the pinnacle of PS2 playing as far as I'm concerned.
That said, I have to give this game all five stars for just a rockin' good time. We bought it a couple of months ago, and it was just a barrel of fun going through the missions. It's a bit easier than GTA:SA, but it's just hilarious and the 80s music rocks! The cars are cooler, too. And you have more opportunity to steal and drive motorcycles. My gf and I just play this (and the other) for hours, switching off based on who's better at different types of missions.
Game's only $20 now, so you may as well get it. :)
The GREATEST GTA installment!!

This is my First introduction to the Wolrd of GTA, and I Loved it!
I've played GTA 3 but it was not as fun as Vice City due to the Voice Actors included in the game which gives the game life.
I wasn't a VERY big fan of American Music (since I only listen to Japanese), but this game made me like them bit by bit.
Even though it has some "glitches" in the game, I still prefer this over ALL GTA series.
IT'S GOOD

This game is OK, but not the best of the series. The best I consider to be Grand Theft Auto San Andras. As far as these games go this series has the most expansive and explorable worlds. They have many elements that make them many games in one. You can drive vehicles, fly helicopters and planes, swim above and under water and drive boats and walk, run and jump. Even enter buildings and play pinball or pool. You can pick up hookers and go on a shooting spree. You can steal cars and blow things up. You can even parachute. You can kill people and make bloody messes. You can rob and steal. The music is fly. They are games that can be played for hours on end, if you like this sort of thing. Which I don't but the kids do. I especially enjoy the urban humor. Many cheat codes can be obtained. Liberty City has its limits compared to my favorite San Andras. If you play these sort of games these are some you should collect. But keep in mind I don't. I have better things to do with my time, like watch my computer's hard disk defragment. I'm just an old cranky man but my kids love these games. If you're the type who takes music and games too serious you may be offended by these games. If you're like me you'll let your kids have their music, low riding baggy pants and fun. Our kids are under a lot of world pressures, give them a break and let them scream a little. As long as they are pretending and not doing this crap for real everything is fine. Chill out parents, eat some fiber, everything will be OK.

My wife rented this for my 11 yr old daughter's brand new ps2. I was addicted within moments and spent all free time either playing or surfing for cheats (I'm stuck on workers' riot!), and came to Amazon to purchase it. Its a ton of fun alright. Its not that the violence is over the top (ok, well maybe), but the situations are absolutely NOT for youth. Its a shame that the incredible talents of Rockstar Games could not be put into a game suitable and fun for both me and my daughter. I am not prepared to explain what a brothel is to my 11 year old!
After reading other review from 13 year old chastising parents for buying this, I've come back to reality, and will not purchase. Instead of staring transfixed into the flickering tube, we're going to get outside and enjoy the great Florida weather instead.
good game with MAJOR flaws.

Vice city might just be to big for its own good. I have purchased the game and played it. It has two different islands and alot more weapons than GTA3. but once you unlock the second island, or even when you havent, driving around is a real pain. there are just so many streets and roads, and the drivers are a lot dumber, they will just crash into you. And vice city also freezes a lot more often. The game's physics are really bad. whenever my car was rolling over, but remembering experences from GTA3, used the brake and reverse and accelerate buttons to turn it back over. and just when I think my car will get back on its wheels the right way, it turns back over. also the missions, the first ones are fun and slightly easy, but then the game gives you a nearly impossible mission.
I cant say what missions because it would be a spoiler, but trust me, they really tested my temper. (which I lost about EVERY mission). And the cops? They are WAAAAAAYYYYy more agressive and can be a real pain when you are doing something. but if you can ignore these problems (I dont think so!) you will have a good game.

This product is not recommended for teenagers or children. Regardless of what the ratings are, children under 17 do get their hands on this product and they love it! That's very disheartening because the subject content is not suitable for anyone of any age. We have to deal with crime and violence everywhere. Why do we have to bring it into our children's games? Don't we have enough moral issues to deal with as a society? Where does it stop?

Ths is a game for those that either want to live life on the bad side, or just want to remember the 80s. Note it is rated M and most 9 year olds cant handle it. I thought it was a great game. if you actually play the missions it doesn't get boring. I also noticed that when you play this, you get taught a lesson, if you shoot someone or steal a car, odds are, the Cops will get you. Unless you cheat, but that's no fun.
