I had played few MMORPG previously. Guild Wars and City of Heroes. Both were entertaining for several weeks. I certainly got my money's worth out of them. But not like this. . .

This game is spectacular. I'm a relative noobie, but I have no interest in buying any other game for any system any time soon; that's how good this game is. I have lost interest in playing other games.

The one fault of the game, and I feel it's more a fault of mine than of the game's, is that it is hard to get anything done by logging in for less than an hour. There *is* stuff to do, but nothing interesting. Other online games have things to do when you're on for only a short time, but not-so-much with WoW. But that is a MILD criticism of an outstanding game.

This is a fun game, but it is not worth the monthly fee. I have played this game for months, the game itself is very fun, but the service, and the community events are terrible, simply because-there is none, 0 no events, and the gms are not helpfull at all, you can wait 6 hours for a gm to get to you, and they dont even help.
Also this game has bad server reliability, i have tried numerus times to log in on weekends, and they are down due to erver problems, these server problems can last days, and then, on they are fixed, they have log in problems, and that adds another hour (or 3) to the waiting time
The last major issue, is what your paying for, and what your not getting, mainly patches, they have had 1 major patch since the realease of this game, they themselves said that there would be one every month. personally i do nto want to pay $15 dollars for this.
Im not bashing this game, i am just pointing out the major problems that are never fixed, the gms say "we will look into this" and thne nothing is ever done, this has happened on many occssions, and class unbalances are so bad, that more than 1/2 of the gaming population are rogues (me, being one hahah)
I am not the only one who have this same feeling, and it seems, the only way for this company to see what is wrong is if enough people quit, on the forums, people say what they do not like, it is either ignored, or blocked for "not being consructive" when they are just trying to point something out.

well thats basically the current problem with this game, now i promise you, i am not exxagerating, just want to show the people a different perspective than the usual fanboys who would support this company, even if they somehoe killed millions of people

the cons of the game make it unplayable, or...unpayable

This game is very playable over a modem. I'm in the beta right now and, despite being riddled with bugs and crashing frequently, lag is rarely a problem. I was considering getting DSL just for this game, but now I'm thinking no, because I don't need it.

I still hate the monthly charge for MMORPG's, which is most of why this is the first one I've played and why I may not get this one.

Sadly, even though the game itself is great, if you're going into it with an idea that you'll be entering a different fantasy world be warned - it's exactly like real life, only more so in many respects. Both myself and my fiancee experienced almost nonstop incidents of harassment, sexual harassment, foul language, blatant racism, psychotics who've made the game their only interest in life (and believe the game belongs only to them, and you HAVE to play their way or they'll dog your every step and insult you constantly), on and on and on. The Blizzard game managers exercise almost no control over the situation, and do pretty much nothing to help players having these problems. Usually the only solution they offer is to recommend changing realms (for a $25 fee per character, gee thanks), change your character's name to chase the harassers away (for just a $10 fee per character - what a bargain!) or for you to put offending players on 'ignore'. But we found all realms equally bad, and after 'ignoring' up to 100 players per day for almost 6 months we just got fed up and realized there were better and more productive ways to spend our lives. If you're a parent thinking about exposing your children to this world, I strongly urge you to pass it by unless you want your kids to learn how to be abusive and foul mouthed.

This game is a game that is extremely appealing. The graphics are nice, the gameplay seems very interactive and you get to fight huge battles against tons of other characters PvP mode.

I played Diablo 2 back in the day and this game somewhat reminds me of it (except for the $15 monthly fee for WoW). When I say it reminds me of Diablo 2, I say that in a negative way. Here is what I mean:

I played Diablo 2 for roughly 2 years. In two years, I got to the point where I was putting in 5-6 hours a day every single day of my life into the game. I tried desperately to level up my character and get the fanciest items but I never could. None of the elite players gave a damn about me and would not help me. I even got to the point where I was buying items on ebay.

DO NOT LIE TO YOURSELF FOLKS!! This game is no different in terms of its feel. If you buy it, you will be a guy playing new with people who played the game for years. They don't care about you. They don't want to help you. They don't want you on their team and they don't want anything to do with you. Even if you spend more than 40 hours a week playing this game (a must at lvl 60), there is no guarantee that you will make it big with any kind of guild, or have any kind of fancy elite items.

If you go on careerbuilder.com and you spend 5-6 hours a day every single day, you could probbably be a millionare in less than two years. You could learn a real life skill (maybe even lose your virginity!!). Who knows what you could accomplish?? I am not saying in any way shape or form that this videogame itself is bad, but is this really the best thing that we as human beings can do with our time?? Be honest.

I was a Night Elve Hunter on the stress server beta... in one word the game is EXCELLENT, the world is full of details I have no idea how many people were involved in the project but they have very talented people, every detail is there, the buildings are truly warcraft and so are the characters, the fighting and movements are fluid, there have been changes since and there are some still on the works but once the game goes gold you can be sure that you'll be getting a blizzard game... this means quality they don't rush their games "it will be out when it's done"

Provides an unlimited time-sink.

Cons: Provides an unlimited time-sink.
You have to do the same thing over and over to get what you want.
Addictive
Especially high percentage of idiots in-game and on the forums
Badly written quests designed to waste your time.
Poor storyline behind the whole thing.

Prepare for serious relationship problems

You don't get more addictive than this game. My wife hates it, family hates it. I love it. I've been playing for a year and it still surprises me with it's complexity.

As far as playability, make sure you have 1gig of ram and relatively good videocard.

What is more addictive than crack and more fun than beating children? Its 'World Of Warcraft'. I'm sure that this immensely playable online game has ended quite a few marriages and lost some players their jobs.

I'm sure by now that most people, even non-gamers, have heard of this online game. I won't go into to massive details here about the game because its been done numerous times before by other reviewers. But I will say this: 'World Of Warcraft' is probably the best RPG I've ever played and easily the most addictive game since 'Tetris'. You will whittle away many, many hours trying to get your character to that next level, looking for new equipment, or trying to finish that one last quest. It really is astonishing in the fact that you can sit down and start playing and not even realize that four hours have passed. It sucks you in like a Thai prostitute and doesn't let you go easily.

With its easy gameplay, very customizable characters(with seemingly more updates coming all the time), beautiful graphics, massive number of quests(with more constantly being added), and the fact that it is just flat-out the most fun game you will have played in a long time, 'World Of Warcraft' is a must-own. Even gamers who dislike RPGs will get a lot of pleasure out of this game. C'mon now: you can dress your male character up in a dress, turn other people into sheep, run around in your underwear, dance like Michael Jackson, so what's not to like? Then on top of that, you can get into some of the most intense video game battles you've ever been apart of and team up with other players to tackle the difficult epic quests, or any quest for that matter.

But be warned: this game has a very easy chance of ruining your life. You will ignore your significant other, your job, bathing... This is the video game equivalent of crystal meth. One hit and you are hooked.

This is a great game. Different from many other MMORPGs of the same genre, it plays just as good solo as it does grouping or guild, which appeals to me since I don't have the time I used to have when I was single!

Two main pts of difference:

Wow Levels you prety fast, no more running around naked for weeks, killing vermin with a stick! There is a 'rest' state that gives you an xp bonus that's applied when you log back in.

Wow does not decay your weapons!

Paying the price for the "special" collector's edition pet/mascot is worth it, IMO, as I usually use the maps as dust rags and use the soundtrack as coasters. I like to make my character standout, and I know many will not want to spend the $$, so all the more better. Pets (non-combative) will be like a mascot (imagine Iago on Jaffar's shoulder).
