Very Disappointed

Being a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings, I have been waiting for this game to come out for a very long time. I was so excited the day that it came out, I ran to the local store and picked up a copy without renting it first. That was a huge mistake.
I expected this game to be one that would take me at least week of gametime to play, but I had only played for a total of three hours and I was already through most of the world map and fighting in the mines of Moria with Gandalf. Before I got the game, I didn't think that I would even be out of the Shire in three hours! Another thing that was horrible about this game is the never-ending load times. You have to wait a good fifteen seconds to do really anything. If you go to a different area, load time of fifteen seconds. If you go into a house, load time of fifteen seconds, etc. It gets very anoying.
Another thing that was very horrible was the fact that it was SO easy. The Black Riders were as stupid as the orcs. The hardest enemy to fight was the bees that would chase you through the Shire, no joke!
I was going to give it three stars just because it said The Lord of the Rings, but then the horrible songs that the hobbits sang came back into my head and made me remember how bad the game actually was.
Save your money and buy a game like NCAA Football 2003 of which you can play for hours on end without getting bored out of your mind like I did with this game.

A really fun game, should be a little longer, though.

It was a very entertaining game, and I thought it was very well done, but it should have been a little longer and harder to beat. The levels could have been much larger, according to the books it had a lot more going on than what was in the game. Overall, it was a very fun game to play, but too easy to beat and too short.

What a horrible game, such a shame.....

Wow, what a let down. I was looking forward to this game for a couple of reasons.
1. I love the books
2. I love 3rd person action/adventure games
3. Surreal had something to do with it, and I loved Drakan, the Ancients gate (which this engine obviously shares a lot in common with.....well, except for most of the good parts.)

Where to start on this turkey.....
A: Graphics. Very very similar looking to Drakan the Ancients Gate, but no where near the size/depth of the environments in that game. The game looks passable, and that's the most favorable word I can use, but the maps/environments are very very small for the most part, and you are more or less on a very narrow *track*. The graphics in general have a sort of cartoony, empty feel. The game lacks much mood from a visual standpoint, and that's a shame given the source.
B: Gameplay. 1 word...horrible. All the problems that plague bad 3rd person adventure games are here. Camera panning/orientation is one of the worst I've played in a long time, which again is a real shock, as Drakan the Ancients gate is one of the best in that regard I've ever played. Weapon selection (not that there is much/any) is clumsy, and it's a real problem when using Gandalf especially, not that it matters much as the fighting is so simplistic. In short, just about everything that can be annoying about control issues in games like this, is. I really don't understand what happened, as the engine is obviously by and large the same one used in Drakan, and it's fantastic in that game. Perhaps this game had a different team of people, or was actually in development before Drakan was.
Whatever the problem is, it sure is lousy.

On top of those two things, the gameplay being the major flaw, the game is shockingly short. I finnished this game in 5 hours, with no cheats, no online help, no guides, it's laughably short/easy. Also, the game just feels thrown together. The cut scenes seem very rushed...it's hard to describe this unless you play it, but it really seems very thrown together.

In summary. I wouldn't buy this game, and I have a hard time even recommending that you rent it. I'm not sure it's even worth the 6 bucks or whatever your local rental place charges.

Avoid at all cost....what a shame, such potential to make a truly great game, and from (at least in part) a company that has made a fantastic game with more or less the same engine. If your looking for a good 3rd person action/adventure that you may not have played, check out Drakan the Ancients Gate. It's a much much better game than this, in every way possible.

Buy this game now if you own an XBox! The graphics and gameplay are a lot better than the PS2 and PC version. The Lord Of The Rings : The Fellowship Of The Ring has a lot of action after you get through the Old Forest. Buy this game now!

Not one of the best but not one of the worst games that I have played. It does not have as much action that I was hopeing for when I purchased the game, but however the game helped me to understand the books more. It unlike the Two Towers does not skip from battle to battle. It focuses on the books more then the movie, going page for page of the acctual book.
I found some parts to be frustrating with how the game play would not coporate with what you were trying to achieve, but overall the game does have good sound and the graphics are a little cartoony but sharp. It should not dissipoint you if you but this game, but i suggest renting it first.

After about 30 minutes of collecting water lilies for Tom Bombadil's wife, I had to take this game back. Sure it follows the book, but as with movies, you can't make the game exactly like the book. There are many other things I don't like, but as with the game, I won't waste any more time.

'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' is a great video game for the Microsoft Xbox! The graphics are brilliant and very well detailed. The sound is good along with some astounding music (score): which is not annoying. There is seven to eight in-a-half hours of descent gameplay in 'Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring'. This is an RPG game, so there is a lot of exploring and fighting you get to do in Middle-earth. You play as three wonderful different characters from the Fellowship, and they are: Frodo the hobbit, Aragorn the ranger, and Gandalf the wizard. The plot follows author J.R.R. Tolkien's first story in 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy very well. You must fight your way through orcs, trolls, and avoid being seen by the Nazgul in order to take the evil Dark Lord Sauron's One Ring of Power to be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom in the dark land of Mordor.
But, with all its ups, 'Fellowship of the Ring' does have a few downs. I found a couple of minor glitches in this game which (sigh of relief) are easy to avoid. Another thing I don't really like about this game is the fact that there is a lot of side-quests. A lot of which are optional quests, but they are so worth doing that (out of curiosity) your mind forces you to complete them. There is only one last thing that dissapoints me about 'Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring'. It just wasn't very challenging enough. Yah sure, some parts in the game are tough like trying to get through the Old Forest and Fighting the Balrog demon. But there isn't enough challenging moments in it.
All in all, even though it has some faults, 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' video game for the Microsoft Xbox is a rather fun game to play for children, teenagers, and adults alike. I highly recommend that you buy this game if you are a true fan of author J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. But if you aren't, then don't buy it. Rent it instead. Unlike many other people who have criticized this game in a cruel way, I happen to find it rather pleasent. I give it a resounding four out of five stars as my rating.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring for the Xbox is an awsome game that is just under twenty bucks! The graphics are cool and the sound fx, including the music (score), is great! Gameplay lasts up to ten hours: that is ten hours of excitement and fun! I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves Lord of the Rings as much as I do.

Actually, the information in Max's review is slightly incorrect. The game allows you to play as Frodo, Gandalf and Aragorn. Gimli and Legolas are of course present, but you don't control them directly.
