A fun little LAN party game.

I started playing UT in 1999 and was introduced to Tactical Ops at a LAN party. I soon downloaded all the UT patches (which I can't find online anymore) and worked up my own install for my friends to use on our test network at work. This game is not overly resource intensive and gameplay is quite good, even on slower machines. I decided to buy the retail version for my travel laptop because I play UT2k4 more than I do UT99 and it saves me just a little bit on drive space over the UT99 install with added TO mods. Overall this is a very good game, excellent for the price I got it for (less than $7 US with shipping) and makes a great addition to any FPS collection.

Best game for years now, still strong!

This game is a CounterTerrorism game where you select from two teams which are Special Forces or Terrorists.

Each team has different objectives to complete, for example, Special Forces has to rescue hostages and prevent Terrorists from escaping, while Terrorists have to blow up specific targets with C4 explovies.

Also there are special objectives that each team can complete like in the CIA map, Terrorists break in and hack into CIA computer files and release sensitive information into the public.

Also this game has realistic World settings and weapons. This game takes place all over the world from Small Arab Towns to Asian Cities to the deadly alleys of United States Cities. Some weapons that can be found in this game are, Deagles, Mp5 navy, Ak-47, m16, m60, m4m203 grenade launcher, and much more!

Overall this is a Great game that I recommend you buy!

tactical ops is basically a copy of counter strike. it was started as an unreal tournament mod in 1999 known as swat but the name got changed to tactical ops eventually. the game plays like counter strike and the graphix are really good but the engine sucks. i dont think it was a good idea to make this game out of the unreal tournament engine. just look how the people jump it looks really funny. but overall the game is pretty good. lots of cool weapons like the m4a1m203 grenade launcher. if u dont know how counter strike is played it is terrorist vs special forces. the game is also very realistic

This game is perfect in essence, apart from the few hackers that pop up from time to time. You won't find a more proffesional online experience anywhere else. The graphics and sound do the job well and compatibility seems to be at a premium.

If you're new to first person shooters be warned though, a lot of tac ops players have this game down to a science by now and you will definatly spend hours getting shot whilst getting no kills yourself. By playing this game online you'll be volunteering yourself up as a sterotype 'movie extra' getting taken out by proffesional geek gamers round after round. That said it's all the more rewarding when you do take down a few nurds.

This game is a horrible waste of time and money.

Oh, my. What an awful, awful game. I can't believe I spent money on this sucking black hole of mediocrity. The box states that it includes "solo campaign" play, but in actuality, it just includes "practice sessions" where you can play on the various maps that are used in multiplay. There is no attempt at plot or continuity, you just choose whatever map you want to play in a series of disconnected scenes.
If that wasn't bad enough, the online play is awful. Infogrames doesn't support this title with their own servers, they just include a tool to find multiplayer games that other people are running themselves, some of which you won't even be able to access without a password, some of which if you do access the hosts will just boot you off since you're a total stranger. Out of the remainder, connections fail frequently, and even if you do manage to stay in, the game sessions only last around four minutes a pop. Once the major objectives are complete the game is done unless you want to play on the same board again.
There are none of the traditional staples of online shooter games here; no deathmatch, capture the flag, or anything else. Instead players simply attempt to set a bomb, steal a weapon prototype or take hostages. Once any of these things are accomplished the game is over.
Oh, and if you actually want to play in one of these online debacles, you'll have to download a couple of hours worth of updates (it was for me, I have a 56K connection), which, again, Infograme doesn't host and you'll have to use various clunky mirror sites, bogged down with advertisements and unneeded webpages.
Finally, if you manage to do this, and still want to play, look out: this thing crashed my system over and over and over. I have a nice system: 1.6 Gig Pentium Processor 128 MB G4 video card, 256 RAM, 20 G harddrive, etc, etc. At one point, my internet browser went postal on me and started dialing up my ISP repetitively until I uninstalled everything and completely shut down my system. I have never had this happen before with any software.
Please, don't buy this steaming pile of a product. Buy anything else, thirty dollars worth of silly putty, something. Just stay away from this game.

Alright, if you haven't played this game, let me paint a picture for you. Tactical Ops is like CounterStrike on a sugar/caffine high. The selection of weapons, skins, maps and situations are astounding, and the action is fantastic. Online play is huge, and that's your best bet for the real fun, because you'll find yourself spanking up on the bots (computer controlled opponents) pretty quickly. If you're a fan of this genre, this is one game you can't pass up, and best of all, it's fans (folks like me) contribute to the game in countless ways. Go to [URL] for more info on the game and it's community. Also visit the official site at [URL] to Have fun, I know I am, and I'll see you on the public servers when you're ready to fight. :)

Yes mon! Fester be right mon! I'd also like to add that even if you are horrible at it like me you can still have fun by relentlessly taunting your opponent with a plethora of cheesy commands and insults delivered with the panache of a bad imitation russian accent!
