Greatest game ever made!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 9 / 11

This game is breathtaking, the graphics and technology behind it is amazing. I get totally lost in another world when i play this game. Only problem with the game, which i only see as a temporary problem, is that the game requires the fastest and most equipped computer money can buy and most people wont be able to play this game. But even if you have to struggle through low framerates and crashes on todays computers, its worth it because the game itself is a work of art, and i can see myself playing this game again a year from now with even better performance with a better computer.

Ultima IX is really a great game. It's graphics are fabulous, the gameplay is awesome. I really get involved, its also huge, this will take you quite a while to finish, i've been playing it for a long time and i feel like I havn't got anywhere. There is one huge problem with the game. The system requirements. If you do not have a top of the line computer, wait for a little while before getting the game. That way it can get patched up and you may be able to play it. I have a P-3 600 with 128 ram and a Voodoo 3 and it's still pretty slow. But, i'm actually considering buying more ram, just for the reason of playing this game in its full glory. Ultima is awesome. Trust me.

An unsurpassed virtual world

Ultima IX in my opinion has the largest, best looking virtual world of any game.Everything can be interacted with and you can go anywhere. Climbing to the top of a mountain peak to get a better view of your surroundings, or swimming out to a small island in a river are just a couple of examples. Graphics are outstanding as is the design of the land. Your character is viewed in 3rd person, ala Mario 64, and you control his movements with your mouse and keyboard. I just thought I would add that, because the game box does not really explain that. Every other character you come across has his or her own problem which you can choose to solve or not to solve. Because the world is so huge, you better be ready for hours of hours of exploration. There are no linear paths to follow and you can go about your quest however you see fit. The downside of this game is the occasional crash, choppy frame rates in some areas where there are many trees and objects(but not unplayable), and I had problems installing it on my computer. The auto install feature does not work very well, but theses problems are minor compared to the overall greatness of the game. My system is a 300mhz Pentium II, 160 megs of ram(more would be better), a Voodoo 3 3000. I am running the game in 640X480 with 16 bit color.

A lot has been said about this one

I pre-ordered Dragon Edition and took one week out of work to play. I wasn't dissapointed.

Lots of people criticize the game, because the world is small, the voice acting poor, the characters are not deep enough... Just a few games stand so high that these are their only (minor) faults.

I enjoyed the adventure feeling, the compelling environment, the quests, the exploring (yes, even a "small" world has lots of things to explore).

I had player Baldur's Gate to the end before playing Ultima. I consider BG a great game, but it lacks depth, limiting itself to combat. This is exactly what Ultima isn't.
Ultima makes you think. A sensation I thought forgotten when playing RPGs (sorry Diablo fans).

The Ulitimate Ultima

This game rules. I've played all of the Ultimas and this one's my favorite. Simple fun. Those are the only words that describe this game. Those who have anything but a Voodoo 2/3 will crash and burn, I have a special edition Voodoo 2 coupled with a GeForce 256 and this game kicks flaming butt with them. I like this game because it is an Ultima, everything is simple and non-cluttered, and the graphics RULE! , but only with a Voodoo 2 or 3. I hope they will release a patch for this so you can use all types of hardware on it but the patch might weigh a hefty 50-150 mb. Please buy and enjoy.

After 11 years of playing Ultimas, I've fallen in love again

I built a computer this fall knowing that U9 was coming out, got all the recommended things, and I am HAPPY I did. I have had no trouble with crashing, only a little lag at the highest settings. I find myself playing U9 like I used to play games as a kid--for hours on end without even realizing time has gone by. Just looking around is a treat; being able to play with everything in sight has me waiting to see what I can do next. This is the cure for all those lame pseudo-RPGs since the last serious Ultima--move over, non-tactical combat and set-in-stone storylines, Lord British is finally back!

An amazing game

I have been a fan of the Ultima series since the first one came out, and I was thrilled to get my hands on this finally installment when it was released. This game is simply beautiful; the breath and depth of the world is simply amazing. The voices are very well done, and the characters are interesting and compelling. Very few games have a story that is as rich and rewarding as the one found in this game. I could go on and on about how great this game is, but let me just say this one thing: "Ultima 9" is probably one of the best RPGs released for a computer in recent years. I have noticed the complaints people have made about the game being buggy, but I have never had a single problem from the initial installation to the end of the game. If you are a fan of the Ultima series, this game is a must have for you.

Forget the Flap-This game is great!

I know about all the flap about this game and technical problems that people have had with it. I just bought the game and realized that I didn't have any video card to speak of in my PC so sprung for a $50 (after rebate) Voodoo3 card and the thing is amazing. This is without a doubt the best role playing game I have ever played on a PC. The graphics are beautiful and the storyline is complex and interesting - I amtotally hooked. The only thing that I wish that they would add to it is a little more intelligence into the dialogue so that it doesn't give you the choice of picking a statement when youare talking to someone that doesn't actually make sense yet (you haven't gotten there in the game yet). Really amazing and well worth the price!

after a little tweeking on vidio card, i now have the best playing game in the history of rpgs, the graphics are phenomenal, the sound is good, (but maybe a little too much of it.). Some of the game playing is so intence, that the hairs on my neck, stand up, no other game has done this since Daggerfall. All rpgs should be this great, to bad this is the last of the Ultima,s. So long Lord British!

Great RPG! Should be game of the year!

I was very excited when I first got this game. I played it every day. I have already beaten the game and I still play it. The graphics are great and it works perfect on my computer. I have a Dell 500 mhz with a voodoo 3. To get the great graphics it is highly reccomended you have a voodoo. Overall I think the game was worth the money.
