Dont understand??

I dont see any fun in this game....I played Half life one and though "wow this is a rather boring game in which all I do is push crates" and the storyline was boring as well!!!!!! So when I tried Half Life 2 I wasnt anymore impressed....the enemies looked real but when I filled them full of lead it didnt FEEL like it...and the puzzles were irritating...they were easy to work out...but I wanted an FPS not another version of hyped up super speed tetris!!!!!!!! And Again the storyline wasnt very exciting...they tell you bugger all and then the end is treated like a twist?????
I can say Halo/Halo2 were good came because they were what they claimed....FPS's....they had good storylines/a cool universe and when I killed the 'bad guys' I enjoyed every moment of it....and that is why I dont like the Half Life franchise.....

Not just the graphics... the physics and AI

Now, obvioiusly I havent played the game but I have had the privelage of watching the 2003 E3 video of it. It is THE most breathtaking game ever to be produced. You wonder why it took them 6 years to make it? You wont once it comes out.

Physics: You can shoot a gurder bar hanging on top of a construction room and watch it come swooping down to crush multiple enemies, but wait.... one got back up.... but then the bar comes back down from the other side and takes him out again.
AWESOME!!!

Graphics: The graphics are next to life-like, if they bring out an half-life 3 the graphics will be life like. The walls of buildings actually look like bricks. Grass actually looks like grass. And water, well the water is life like.

Enemy AI: They are as smart or smarter than you. Say they chase you into a room in a house. You run in block the door with a table. Feel safe for a while right? WRONG.. the shoot the windows and come bursting through.... AMAZING!

I cant say enough about this game. It will likely get game of the year and possibly best game ever made if it lives up to its video which it likely will.

It will be sweet

Anyone not wanting to get this game should probably get a CAT scan. It is is one of the most anticipated sequels in gaming history, including UT2K4 and Doom 3. IF you've followed the development process, you know what I'm talking about. The gameplay videos are incredible. You can find them at gamespot.com, and they show a level of environment interactivity that I couldn't believe. Besides being Half-Life the way the enemies react and the open-ended feel the videos show is astounded.

For a FPS it promises super-immersive gaming. When you can move furniture to block doors and knock over train cars to kill zombies it's hard to imagine how it can get better. Another new twist is what appears to be a telekenisis gun to throw object at enemies! I've seen the beta also, and the environment effects are superb, water looks great, and the design is great. This game will be worth every penny.

BUY THIS GAME

The engine for this game is landmark. I know a game developer who has inside information on the amount of money spent on this engine. Without really letting it out at this time, let's just say it's an enormous sum of money devoted to a game engine.

As the video taken at E3 shows, this game will truly be INCREDIBLE. The original Half-Life took the Quake 2 engine and made a much better single player game than Quake 2 was. Half Life was also the platform for the Counterstrike mod. The other day I went to a site that listed the number of players currently online playing several particular games: Quake 2: ~3000 players, Medal of Honor: ~6000, Quake 3: ~4500, and so on. Counterstrike: ~60,000 people, and it is 5 years old! With THE most advanced engine ever developed and a history of excellent story and single/multiplayer gameplay, this game will be SUPERBLY THE BEST.

I had lots of trouble even running the DEMO

I will wait until all the bugs are ironed out on this game. I had trouble even running the demo so I gave up. It is NOT my systems fault either. I have a current system with current specs so the programers have NOT done a good job.

I have not got the game yet. But its hard to resist the review PC Gamer has given to HL2. Heres some unedited text from http://www.half-life2.com/news.php?id=332

"Half-Life 2 is arguably the best game ever made to date. It is a groundbreaking experience in interactive entertainment," states PC Gamer's Senior Editor, Chuck Osborn, "While some games have groundbreaking visuals, or intellectually-challenging gameplay, or perhaps a cinematic story with good voice acting, not one has ever delivered the complete package. Half-Life 2 nails it, surpassing the original in every way."

Best. FPS. Evar.

Without a doubt the best FPS to date. I was so blown away when i first played it. Highly immersive story, amazing graphics, interactive enviroments, complex yet entertaining puzzles to solve.
Not sure if puzzles is the right word, but many times throughout the game you get into a sticky situation and you have to think your way out of it. And unlike most games that try to integrate puzzles into their games, the puzzles in HL2 are interesting and fun. Usually I HATE puzzles in a game, because they usually are 1. too simple. 2. to hard. 3. overdone. how many puzzles do you NEED in a game. or 4. just plain stupid. nothing irks me more than a puzzle that was thought up by a sadistic money and implemented by a high school dropout. UGH.

Ok, minor off-topic rant about puzzles... So about the game... Different types of enemies are interesting and require different stratagies, headcrabs are annoying, the badasses in dark suits are overused. Gravity gun is also a good (and well done!) addition to the game.

Fun 5/5
Graphics 5/5
Gameplay 5/5
Sound 5/5. Surround sound is excellent.

Some of the highest ratings I have ever given. The only other games I would give ratings this high would be Ninja Gaiden and Halo 2. Lots of excellent games out there but so few that deserve 5's for everything.

bad things happen if you have the wrong video card

this game is the biggest frustration I've ever had in a video game:
-takes forever to set up
-can only be played if you are online
-and the worse: it crashes every 15-20 minutes with my configuration, and I'm not the only one. I tried everything, update my drivers, slowing my video card and sound card acceleration, get some patches... it takes forever and you don't play.
Otherwise, when it works, it's fun, you can interact with everything.
finally, i prefered doom 3...

Hollywood take note....

If you enjoy a first person shooter that has an enticing plot and makes you think through objectives rather than just running around shooting things, this game is for you. I absolutely loved the creepy atmosphere of a "big brother" type of world. There is a desolation that is ever-present in the environment and you truly feel as though you are part of a resistance movement. The game's plot (both the original and HalfLife 2) would make a great TV series.

A realistic 1st person shooter game

Half-Life 2 is the best 1st person shooter game I have ever encountered in my 10 years of pc games. Half-Life 2 delivers more fun and action then the original Half-Life,but HL'2s storyline doesen't beat HL'1s storyline. So you know who you are,Gordon Freeman,a scientist who survived from the Black Mesa Incident and killed Nihilanth,an alien mommy.

In Half-Life 2 you work for the G-Man,he gives you 2 choices,to work for him or die,and Gordon picks life. After that you're on a train to the lovely City 17.

After you get accustomed to the controls and talk to the passengers(well listen since you can't talk)the train will stop and you'll be heading off the train to City 17.

The pros,Half-Life 2 has a good storyline and amazing graphics and I have had NO problems with Steam ever..I've played Red Orchestra one of the steam games and have had no problems also. Anyway,Half-Life 2 drops you in a amazing city that has all these different things you can do,like if you bump into a citizen he'll say ''Excuse me'',and you can pick objects up and throw them at enemies,HOW COOL IS THAT?!

Now with the weapons,You'll have your crowbar, shotgun, usual weapons and the Gravity Gun. This gun is so amazing it'll let you pick up any tool or object and throw it at enemies. So,anything that can't be picked up in other games can be picked up in this game.

Now i'll tell you the requirements so you won't cry about steam.

You'll need a fast connection,an internet connection, broadband connection, and have the guts to wait an hour installing.

I hope this review helped cya all

Joe
