Age 2 with an attitude!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 4

Well, I must say that this game is not going to push the envelope as far as graphics are concerned. The landscapes do look pretty good and the wildlife is cool. Some will attack and some won't. It's the way the troops move that is the downfall. They are a bit mechanical in their movement and they attack the same way each time they engage in combat. Also, the game is almost exactly the same as Age 2, but with Star Wars units instead. Nevertheless, don't let this disuade you. It's so much cooler to charge an enemy camp with storm troopers and at at's. I was getting tired of knights and elite skirmishers!!! This game was and continues to be real fun to play. I am a diehard Starcraft fan and was searching for another addictive rts game. To be honest, the only reasons for four stars instead of five, and I'd actually give it 4.5, is: When you select a formation and have it change direction it(the formation) falls apart to totally regroup and if you were persueing an enemy they will usually escape, also One thing I likes about Starcraft that I miss is that there are limited resources. Here as was in AOE you could keep pumping out the big units by trading at the market. I wish this was limited. It makes for better strategy and wiser use of forces. In real life you don't always have unlimited troops and such. Other than these deficiencies, the game really rocks and is very much a game that is replayable. I believe that you will really enjoy playing this game over and over. May the force be with you!

Dude, whats your problem?

How can you review a game that HASN"T COME OUT YET. Sides, the system specs are really low....

Age of Empires 3???

As an avid Star Wars fan I was extremely excited for the release of this game. I knew it would have some AOE flare based on the screen shots but I underestimated just how much flare it'd have. There's even a paragraph in the manual that addresses AOE players. Avid AOE players may find themselves getting board after the first few games because the play is almost identical but the die-hard Star Wars fan will find hours of endless enjoyment and uninstall AOE forever. Way to go Lucasarts!

I love it

I just played the SWGB demo.. and I was blown away. This game is so amazing I just couldn't believe it. However there is one small thing I wish it had. AOE2 has it where you can creat your own scenarios and campaigns, I really wish SWGB had this feature, if it did, this game would be perfection!!

Fun spin on the Age of Empires.

This is a likeable game built on the Age of Empires platform. We saw it and purchased it right away. We spent time in the instructions to understand functions and found that it was very simple to adapt to the new teams and characters.

For the number of negative reviews listed, you might get the impression that this game isn't at all fun. Quite to the contrary this is a great game for anyone that enjoyed AOE. Manipulating the evil Galactic Empire to your own purposes is a lot of fun.

The 'T'een rating may be deserved on this one as a "dying" character screams out in pain. Otherwise this is an enjoyable game.

As a final note...
Online players seem to be struggling with adapting to some changes to the game. Please be sure to update your game with a free patch to fix a few small problems before attempting to play on-line.

Lucasarts does it again

There is no doubt that Lucasarts has improved from its last attempt to make a R.T.S.(force commander..) This game has good graphics and addictive gameplay. The only drawback is that all the air units hover! But that's not a big deal at all. So if you like Age of Empires 2, then you'll definitely like this game especially if you're a die hard Star Wars fan.

Finally a good rts 4 star wars

The Good: In Galactic Battles, you have control over 6 civilations each with unique units(droid dekas, x-wings, at-at's, fambas, dark troopers, any hero you can think about etc.) The game uses the same engine as age of empiresII but is very unique. I personally like GB better because of the unique civilations, the many units, scenrio, and cool landscapes( hoth, yavin, tattoine etc.)This game is also 2 play online and has virtually unlimited playability.

The bad: If you don't like star wars? Primarily when playing it the first time I thought " geese, haven't i played this somewhere before?"(AOEII)But it stands out alone.

The ugly: Graphics, although not bad, are a bit outdated. If you look around basically every new rts game is in a 3d world.

This game is very good and even if you dont like star wars you should give it a try. If you like first person shooters too try Star Wars: Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast

Finally a good RTS Star Wars game!

I've been waiting for a good Star Wars RTS game and this one is it. And it's a very challenging game. There are many units & structures to build plus plenty of upgrades to strengthen your units. The story was ok, but there weren't any cutscenes and no music was playing while you were playing the game. It made it a little dull.
The great thing about the game is for anyone who has played Ages Of Empires II, this game looks and plays alot like AOE2 and also keeps score the same way. That was good and bad. Good because the game was very easy to get the hang of and bad because I felt like I was playing AOE2 again, but just set in the future. But the game looks good and plays very well. And with all the different units to build, this game will give you many options in how you can go about trying to win. There are also some bonus maps where you can change the outcome of previous battles that were lost. Theses battles are very hard and are worth the challenge.
And the whole gang was here. You get to play Darth Vader, Luke, Han, Chewie, Obi-Wan, and many other characters. As far as RTS games go, this didn't bring anything new to the genre, but it didn't take anything away either. It is definitley a worthy game and it will take you a while to beat it. Some of the battles are ferocious and will take a long time to beat. Others are lame. But all in all, this game is very solid. May the Force be with you.

This game looks good!!

the pc game equal to star wars chess

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 5

Ok, you know how companies will take a well known game like chess or monopoly and use a trademark characters to create special editions? Well Galactic Battlegrounds should be titled:

Age of Empires: Star Wars edition

This is the Age of Empires II core engine down to the T. All they have done is swap out the graphics, sounds and menu items.
It's that bad and it works about as well as Starwars chess or Starwars monopoly in the end. Still, it seems the best Star Wars titles from Lucus Arts are developed off some other companies successful game engines, and this game is much better than Force Commander.

Buy if you must.
