...but I found this game to be rather . . . boring.
I bought it after reading amazing reviews from Playstation Magazine, IGN, and Game Informer.
I just couldn't get into it.
The moves seemed repetitive to me.
The graphics, even for PS2, were lacking.
The gameplay was very weak.
I'll play this game for a few hours, put it back on the shelf, and not touch it for 8 months.
I'll give it another try, and the same thing will happen.
I won't touch it for 8 months.
Maybe I'm in the minority on this one.
I just regret buying this game.
I really wanted to like it.
I just didn't.

The recent Hulk movie inspired me to pick this one up again for another romp as the angry man. I know the new game just came out but seeing as it copied this one almost exactly, I didn't see the point in paying the high price when I can just play this one again. Besides, from what I've seen and read about it, Ultimate Destruction does it better.
Ultimate Destruction wisely uses the open world; sand box format which allows you to go anywhere in any way you'd like throughout the city. While there is a story with missions, as well as bonus missions to keep you busy for hours on end, there are just those times when you'll just want to do it like Burger King and have it your way. It's immensely fun to run a muck and wreak havoc in the city and on it's inhabitants as there's tons of moves and attacks at your disposal. Most of them you purchase with destruction points given by completing missions, bonus missions, secrets and general destruction from rampaging through the city. The controls are well done and make it possible to easily become comfortable with Mr.Green to do just about anything you like in no time flat.
I think the game still looks pretty good and I'm usually pretty picky about graphics. While they're nowhere near what we've seen from today's games, Ultimate Destruction does support progressive scan and widescreen. So if your connected to an HDTV with HDMI or component cables, you can manage to get a fairly nice image here. Regardless though, this game is more than enough fun to forget the last gen graphics.
Sound wise, everything here sounds great. The sounds of guns, rockets, screaming pedestrians, cars crunching, exploding and all the mayhem and mass destruction make for a loud and exciting aural experience. Even the thundering of the Hulks foot stomps sound heavy and bass-y. While nice enough through regular t.v. speakers, everything here drastically imporves through a good home theater system. Yet another thing to make you forget about the graphics.
In the end, Ultimate Destruction still looks good, plays great and is great fun, even though we're now well into the next generation of consoles and games. In fact, it's hard to see when, if ever this game won't be good anymore. I mean, where else can you run up the side of a building carrying a bus, then throw it at a helicopter? Or glide around the city while holding onto a giant inflatable gorilla? How about practicing your baseball swing on cars and people with a tree trunk or lamp post? Or bowling with a giant 76 ball from a gas station? Wanna punch that rocket, sending it back to hit the guy who fired it at you? Yeah, you can do that too and alot more. This game is also a great stress reliever. Just had a bad day at work? HULK SMASH!!! Got stuck in traffic on the way home? HULK SMASH!!! Family, friends or significant other getting on your nerves? No problem, HULK SMASH!!!

The worst thing about this game is that the gameplay is just three words: SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! Ultimate Destruction is far from being bad, but many gamers will be looking for a deeper story and gameplay. The graphics are a mess, and the controls could use a lot of work. On the positive side, the Hulk has AWESOME moves and cool unlockables. Smashing everything in sight is a blast, but it doesn't last forever. The city is fun to explore, but it is not as detailed and fun as the Spider-man 2 New York. Basically the game isn't deep enough and is a bit too repetitive. This game is definately worth a rental for any PS2 owner, but if I could go back in time I wouldn't buy it again. It's the best HULK game on the market right now though. I think only major HULK fans should buy it.

Two words. Hulk Smash. And that's the summary of this game. But it only begins there. You smash everything. Go anywhere in town and just smash it.
The first game that came out based off the movie was absolutely atrocious. Very cartoony and the gameplay was just horrible, not fun (except for a couple missions and some of the extra gameplay). Not to mention the Bruce stealth missions were worse.
This game ignores all that and makes a great experience for Hulk fans. It's what you're expecting pretty much. The combos and abilities are all on par with hilarious good fun and sometimes you'll just roam the city looking to try them out. Try creating a wrecking ball and then go bowling with it to see how many tanks you can take out. Or jump ridiculously high to grab a helicopter out of the sky only to throw it at another.
Annoyed by the pesky human battle suits? Why not grapple with one and jump up in the air to dive bomb on its head?
The roaming feature is a nice touch, (very similar to Spiderman 2) and a great number of objects, buildings, etc. are destroyable.
Definitely worth trying out for Hulk / Marvel fans.

This is a great game. I picked it up for 5 bucks and I would have paid a lot more. My 5 year old daughter loves playing this game with me. The controls are easy enough for a kid to learn. The violence isn't very realistic and she knows that it's just a game. She enjoys picking up the cows and throwing them as far as possible. They land on their feet and keep grazing. She also likes to pick people up and then she makes the Hulk put them back down and he pats them on their heads. We spent a few evenings working on finishing the game so we could play as the Abomination and Savage Banner. She has great fun with this game and I believe that it helps her get some angst out of her system. I would say that you should get this game. It's okay for kids because it isn't as realistic as some of the other violent games that I wouldn't let my daughter near. So don't be afraid of picking this up for yourself or your kids. It's a winner!

I am a huge comic book fan and love the Hulk. What's not to like? He is pure id, unmitigated rage and destruction, just what this game will do your hands and wrists after 10 minutes of play. The game is a fun experience for a few minutes and then just gets incredibly repetitive. After watching the Hulk Hands (boxing glove) animation for the 3rd time, it gets old. The action is fast and furious and you can destroy pretty much anything in your path.
The graphics as previously mentioned are subpar . The controls while decent can be frustrating. For example, if I want the Hulk to land with pin point precision on the top of a building so I can get a collectible, he will run for 100 feet or start climbing down or up, go anywhere but to where I am trying to point him. The camera controls could use some work. While it is not static and you can rotate it, it needed to be pulled back more so that you can see what is nailing you from just beyond your perimeter. It also snaps around way too fast if you just want to make a slight adjustment to it. I should not have to fight the camera while trying to play the game.
While the game does have a fair number of unlockables, like different Hulk skins and shorts, and combat moves. I found the game pretty shallow. Some of the mini games, such as racing or punching a car to a specific location are made frustrating by the unresponsive controls.
I recommend renting this game.
Not for young kids (as rating clearly states)

Well, let me preface by saying I disregarded the teen rating and bought it for a 5 year old, so shame on me. But my son is very well grounded in reality and can handle other teen rated games. However, I think this one is past his limit due to the following factor:
-there are no real goals except SMASH SMASH SMASH! You get points for everything from killing an innocent woman walking down the street to crushing a police car. Not a real good lesson for a 5 year old. Not a good scene to walk in on your kindergartner laughing his head off about crushing some folks on the sidewalk. Grand Theft, anyone?
Yeah, I feel kind of lame for saying it's not for kid's since the label clearly states "it's not for kids", but we all know the teen rating is sometimes overly cautious. In this case, I think it's correct. And the sad thing is, I don't think any teen is going to enjoy such basic gameplay for long.
just another typical PS2 action game with bad graphics...

if you're looking for something innovative or interesting, this game definitely isn't where to go.. you're the hulk, and you have to pick up cars, run up buildings, throw stuff... ya know. it actually sounds a lot more fun than it is in practice, to me at least. i didn't feel any visceral joy in the process. it felt like just another typical run-of-the-mill mediocre PS2 action game to me, and this game really shows how far superior the XBOX's graphics are to PS2's. compare the graphics of ninja gaiden to this game.. there is simply no contest.
