Could have been a LOT better!!

I don't have much to say about this game other than it has the worst possible graphics of all baseball games I've ever played. The gameplay is good, but the graphics is very poor. When I pitch, I like to have a pithcer's camera on, and when you take a look at the catcher, it's pityful. All the time he is half-standing and half-sitting. This is bull. I only give this game 2 stars for gameplay.

If graphics is impportant for you, buy an All-Stat baseball. Game.

I hope that High Heat 2003 is going to be better.

The Best PS2 Baseball Game To Date!

Okay, I know that I will not be the first to say, that if you are looking for graphics or a pretty game, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a solid baseball game that is fast-paced and fun to play, 3DO has hit a home run.
From a gameplay aspect, High Heat 2K2 is awesome. Depending on the settings, the game can be very easy in Rookie mode or difficult to the point of where you want to break your PS2 by the time you get to the highest level.
Hitting can be difficult at times; you have to be perfectly in line with the ball in order to make good solid contact. This is real baseball; no power swings, batting cursors, or speed bursts buttons.
Pitching is fun, as you can psyche out your opponent by throwing balls in the dirt, following with a fastball at the belt.
The little things make this game a gem. Errors, dropped third strikes, passed balls, charging the mound, ejections, etc. make this game what it is.
Where there is a good, there is a bad. High Heat only has limited game modes. It somehow missed a Home Run Derby or Batting Practice mode, as well as a playoffs mode. It lacks a Create-A-Player mode and a minor league system. 3DO states that this game was made for solid gameplay and next years HH2K3 should be a prettier, more polished version. I know that I can't wait. This game is well worth the money if you are looking for a solid, fun game.

I will never buy another edition of High Heat.

I just bought this game because I needed a baseball game for PS2 and I'm a big Guerrero fan. Oh, how I was disappointed. The game play is actually pretty good. I like the fact that there's no cursor for batting. It really feels like it takes some baseball knowledge to play, as you have to guess kind of pitch and location, which I actually got pretty good at after playing about 20 games. However, this doesn't overshadow the many cons of the game.
There are a laundry list of problems with the game. The scenes where the players walk to the plate is choppy. The dugouts are empty. Sometimes when you hit a homerun it looks like the guy is running across the plate from the first base side. The pitcher is choppy when throwing a pitch, and after throwing a pitch he goes straight back to his original stance, so he'll go instantly from crouching forward in front of the rubber after a pitch to standing on the rubber with no transition. The batter goes from the end of his swinging motion right back to his original stance (pretty much the same as the complaint about the pitcher). The umpires spin around as the "camera" spins around them, which looks stupid, but not as stupid as the fact that they have faces on both sides of their head. If the camera is rotating and you are pressing forward, your player runs in circles, because the controls are in relation to the view on the screen. I know there's more, but I don't have all day.
The problems seemed insignificant at first, but they pile up quickly and become very irritating. The game play is good, I don't know why 3DO had to cheap out when it came to touching up all the graphics parts of the game. The most irritating part is that the problems would have been easily fixable with a little bit of work. It's not like they were major bugs in the game. Neglecting these problems just looks like laziness on the part of 3DO, and it is that fact that will lead me to buy All-Star Baseball when the 2003 baseball games come out.

Could be better. Weak graphics and no joystick control......

Alot of gamers have praised this baseball simulation for it's gameplay alone. I think the gameplay is well done also, but the graphics looked absolutely horrible....and very choppy animation to go with it! The players' faces looked like they had gone 30 rounds in the ring, straight, with Lennox Lewis! The players run the bases and field like little Jawas. You control the players movements, pitches and swings by the analog pad instead of the important joystick....that was a really lame idea from 3D0! That is what turned me away from really appreciating this game....incredible graphics, control and gameplay is essential to have for a Playstation 2 baseball game, and this did not have all of those! Hopefully next year, they'll be better in putting out a much praised game that we all can agree with!

Fun and easy to play

What I like about HHB2K is that you don't have to go through a complicated series of button presses and cursor aiming to get a pitch off. I believe this keeps the game fresh and flowing smoothly. The graphics are good (could be better). The play-by-play announcers could use a lot of improvement. They don't really vary in what they say.

I would recommend this game to anyone who just wants to play a good game of PS2 baseball and doesn't want to scrutinize every detail.

pretty easy

This game is really easy to get good at. Took me about one game to beat the computer and my average score is 22 to 0. I pitched a no hitter in the third game, so if u want a more challenging game dont get this one!!!

Could use some improvements

I brought me a copy of high heat baseball and was impressed with it's game play. what was disappointing was the way the game graphic jumped around. As a avid gamer I see that this was probaly a rush title. Most Sports video games are released just before the regular season. I know after playing the PC version the company now has time to focus on improvements.
I would like to see a create a player mode as well as a minor league roster, a career mode would do wonder for this product.
I like the fact that you can hit doubles and triples. I like the fact that the computer runs the players that have a high steal rating. The computer also puts on hit and run. Just for fun I would like them to add a sequence on which the Manager comes out and argues with the umpire and this would add momentum to your team or the computer team. I would like to see that if your fans chant you have a rating boost. I like this title and look forward to playing this in the future.

Lots of fun, but could use more polish

To be honest, this is the first baseball game I've played since the first Triple Play that appeared on the original Playstation, so naturally I didn't know quite what to expect. Now that I've had the game for a while, I'm pleased to say that I am very impressed with this game. The physics are very real, with most infield hits resulting in outs, except for the really weak ones to third. And unlike most other games I've played, a smack off the wall almost never results in a single, unless if it was Darrin Fletcher hitting. Still, if you want to get really picky, you can complain about how difficult it is to get a triple, even for Cristian Guzman. The scores are usually in the 5-4 or 6-4 range, like in real baseball, although you do get those 2-0 games, just as you get those 17-11 games as well. The pitching interface is intuitive and easy to learn, as is the batting interface. The players in the game act just like the really do - Nomar Garciaparra has a much easier time making contact than Russ Branyan, Luis Castillo gets tons of steals etc. The greatest thing about this game is that although it combines many of the smaller nuances of real baseball, it is remarkably easy to pick up a controller and get into right away. A 9-inning game has plenty of action, as well as lead changes, and just whizzes by. You can finish a 162-game season with 9-inning games in surprisingly little time. One thing that freaked me out though is that even though he hit .355 last year, Darin Erstad was hitting .220 in the middle of May, just like he actually did this year. How did the developers know he was gonna start the season on a stinky note? A couple complaints I have about the game - the statistics interface includes all the stats you could possibly care about, and even includes a qualify option, but is rather clunky to use; the stadium graphics are accurate, but a bit blocky; the player animations sometimes have some frames missing; the announcers can really get on your nerves when they say really obvious points like 'all he wants to do is get the ball into the outfield' 3 times in the same at-bat; in season mode, human-controlled teams are never given credit for saves (or blown saves); most importantly, there is no create-a-player feature. I say 'most importantly' because of a few obvious omissions, such as Ichiro Suzuki and strangely enough, Rick Reed. I've tried doing that Matt Lawton for Rick Reed trade that happened earlier this year, and to my surprise, guess who I couldn't find! Still, these complaints are insubstantial, as the gameplay is excellent. It's a great 1-player game and an even better 2-player game; High Heat 2002 is a great baseball game that is fun for people who don't enjoy the sport, and awesome for people that do. At the worst, its worth a rental.

Baseball reality, just missing more....

I actually love this game, again I am a huge baseball fan! I had this game from last year on the PC and love the great realism. I would not always hit that 3 run HR to win the game, and the ace could have that bad day and give up 5 runs in the 2nd inning. This same goes for this game. I have owned it for weeks. I even had a player ejected for throwing at a batter after a HR! The stats page is difficult but has LOTS of great numbers! I also wish they would have left the HR derby the PC version had... but this game is much better in gameplay and realism than the competition, I always rent them before to compare before I buy. Baseball fans will love this game!

Well, I've purchase HH2000, SSHH2001, SSHH2001CE, and HH2002 all for Playstation and PC. Now, I'm going to be honest the gameplay is much better on PC than Playstation. The graphics are alot better and the games run alot smoother. But 3DO came out with HH2002 on PS2. I just had to have it. Now I'm not going to lie. If you put this game on rookie it's like a walk in the park, but if you get the difficulty on the right level. This game will have you on the edge of your seat. I love playing HH baseball that is the reason why I buy some many of their products. But this one for PS2 has to be the best I've seen. Sure they lack Ichiro and Spencer, but they've substitute that take their place. This game is a must buy for serious gamers. If you love stats-like gameplay go purchase this one today. If you're in for the graphics and multioptions, stick with TP2002.
