HIGH HEAT ROCKS!

I will just start out by saying that i DO actually own the game, and for the most part it's a pretty good one. In my opinion it is the best out of the 3 available for the playstation 2. The only real knock on it is the graphics as they are subpar. The fielding is superb, and much better than that of all-star or triple play. The stats are also more realistic. It's not a great game, but if you want a baseball game for the playstation 2, this is the one. I also own the PC version, which is better than the ps2 version, because of improved graphics, player suspensions, and injuries which the ps2 version lacks. So if you have a PC, go for that version over this one.

You've gotta be kidding!

This is one of the absolute worst PS2 games I have ever seen. At best HH baseball looks like an average PS1 game! I have now played all 3 PS2 baseball titles and with out a doubt HH is no where near the quality of TP or ASB, and that's not saying much since I wasn't all that thrilled these 2 either. The other reviews talk about realistic game play, the fact of the matter is the graphics and player animations are so bad, that any realism is lost because of this! My final ratings as follows: 1.) Triple Play: Great graphics, gameplay ok once you get used to it. 2.) All Star Baseball: OK graphics, horrible AI, has bugs. 3.) HH Baseball: Horrible graphics, gameplay ruined by graphical glitches.

Horrible graphics, good game play

I rented HHB over the weekend and I was disappointed at first with how poor the graphics are in this game, I think it's may be as bad as let's sy a very early PS1 game back in 1998. Why PS2 can't program games all alike is beyond me. That is one thing I have seen as a problem so far with PS2 games they are all hit or miss. Rent ATV off road fury and then this one, you will see I speak the truth.

Dreamcast, which I also own, every game at least that I own or rented, you knew that the graphics were going to be top notch, 128-bit technology but ,PS2, they can be just horrible.

Anyways back to the game, if you love stats, which I do, this game has every stat imaginable, you can play multi-team season mode as well. You can select how many innings you want a game to be(1-9) you can select how many games you want in your custom season (1-162) you can choose how strict you want the umpires to call a game. The list goes on and on. It has alot more camera angles than ASB2002 or TPB. I prefer the "pitcher's" view it reminds me of the games you see on ESPN. from a camera view from center field. If you choose to close up of a view the graphic will make you cry, they are just that bad. That really is the only major problem with this game, the scores and game play are very realistic with errors, passed balls, wild throws, inside the park homeruns, Controls also are very responsive, and you can program what you want to control from running the bases to hitting to fielding etc. I didn't have any freeze ups or glitches in the 4 days I played it. Season mode, like I said allows you to play as many teams, in any order that you want them to so for instance you want to play 6 straight games of the Dodgers, you can. It also will tell you what your players stats are at the time they are batting for the game and what they have totaled for the season, like in a real baseball presentation. No injuries, or create a player function, unfortunately, that would have been great. Making adjustments to your team are done with a click of a button. Very easy. Game play is fast you can complete a 9 inning game like in 15 minutes, ASB it's like 45 minutes.

I was amazed as well, I was playing a day game and the shadow from the grandstands in Comiskey shifted during the course of the game and by the late innings the entire batter's box was in shadows, pretty cool. The umpire if your pitcher is pitching a great game if you get a called third strike he'' ring you up like Leslie Nielsen from naked Gun and do a moonwalk, only happen once while I played like 40 games.

Overall, I just like all the flexibility in the options, I like games you control, after all if you are going to spend ... $$ + tax on a game shouldn't you be in control. If you play this game not zoomed in you will find it is the best game for playablity on realism the PS2 baseball line has to offer. I played TP2 give that 2 stars and ASB2000 3.5 stars. HHB wins with the options and realism hands down!

If World Series baseball 2K2 for the dreamcast can incorporate this game engine wtih it's graphic capabilities we would have a 10 star game. We can only hope, right ,all the "gamers" out there???

The game play for this game is just out of this world. For once the game is just about the sport(in this case baseball). The graphic are much better then what they say but triple play has better. At first even on rookie you have to try ur best to win. But what is great about this game is that you'll be playing it for a long time since is has so many levels of play. I did not rent this game i just bought it and loved it but you might want to rent it first. Both high heat and triple play are great games for Ps2.

Fun and easy to play

What I like about HHB2K is that you don't have to go through a complicated series of button presses and cursor aiming to get a pitch off. I believe this keeps the game fresh and flowing smoothly. The graphics are good (could be better). The play-by-play announcers could use a lot of improvement. They don't really vary in what they say.

I would recommend this game to anyone who just wants to play a good game of PS2 baseball and doesn't want to scrutinize every detail.

Could be better. Weak graphics and no joystick control......

Alot of gamers have praised this baseball simulation for it's gameplay alone. I think the gameplay is well done also, but the graphics looked absolutely horrible....and very choppy animation to go with it! The players' faces looked like they had gone 30 rounds in the ring, straight, with Lennox Lewis! The players run the bases and field like little Jawas. You control the players movements, pitches and swings by the analog pad instead of the important joystick....that was a really lame idea from 3D0! That is what turned me away from really appreciating this game....incredible graphics, control and gameplay is essential to have for a Playstation 2 baseball game, and this did not have all of those! Hopefully next year, they'll be better in putting out a much praised game that we all can agree with!

The Best PS2 Baseball Game To Date!

Okay, I know that I will not be the first to say, that if you are looking for graphics or a pretty game, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a solid baseball game that is fast-paced and fun to play, 3DO has hit a home run.
From a gameplay aspect, High Heat 2K2 is awesome. Depending on the settings, the game can be very easy in Rookie mode or difficult to the point of where you want to break your PS2 by the time you get to the highest level.
Hitting can be difficult at times; you have to be perfectly in line with the ball in order to make good solid contact. This is real baseball; no power swings, batting cursors, or speed bursts buttons.
Pitching is fun, as you can psyche out your opponent by throwing balls in the dirt, following with a fastball at the belt.
The little things make this game a gem. Errors, dropped third strikes, passed balls, charging the mound, ejections, etc. make this game what it is.
Where there is a good, there is a bad. High Heat only has limited game modes. It somehow missed a Home Run Derby or Batting Practice mode, as well as a playoffs mode. It lacks a Create-A-Player mode and a minor league system. 3DO states that this game was made for solid gameplay and next years HH2K3 should be a prettier, more polished version. I know that I can't wait. This game is well worth the money if you are looking for a solid, fun game.

Lots of fun, but could use more polish

To be honest, this is the first baseball game I've played since the first Triple Play that appeared on the original Playstation, so naturally I didn't know quite what to expect. Now that I've had the game for a while, I'm pleased to say that I am very impressed with this game. The physics are very real, with most infield hits resulting in outs, except for the really weak ones to third. And unlike most other games I've played, a smack off the wall almost never results in a single, unless if it was Darrin Fletcher hitting. Still, if you want to get really picky, you can complain about how difficult it is to get a triple, even for Cristian Guzman. The scores are usually in the 5-4 or 6-4 range, like in real baseball, although you do get those 2-0 games, just as you get those 17-11 games as well. The pitching interface is intuitive and easy to learn, as is the batting interface. The players in the game act just like the really do - Nomar Garciaparra has a much easier time making contact than Russ Branyan, Luis Castillo gets tons of steals etc. The greatest thing about this game is that although it combines many of the smaller nuances of real baseball, it is remarkably easy to pick up a controller and get into right away. A 9-inning game has plenty of action, as well as lead changes, and just whizzes by. You can finish a 162-game season with 9-inning games in surprisingly little time. One thing that freaked me out though is that even though he hit .355 last year, Darin Erstad was hitting .220 in the middle of May, just like he actually did this year. How did the developers know he was gonna start the season on a stinky note? A couple complaints I have about the game - the statistics interface includes all the stats you could possibly care about, and even includes a qualify option, but is rather clunky to use; the stadium graphics are accurate, but a bit blocky; the player animations sometimes have some frames missing; the announcers can really get on your nerves when they say really obvious points like 'all he wants to do is get the ball into the outfield' 3 times in the same at-bat; in season mode, human-controlled teams are never given credit for saves (or blown saves); most importantly, there is no create-a-player feature. I say 'most importantly' because of a few obvious omissions, such as Ichiro Suzuki and strangely enough, Rick Reed. I've tried doing that Matt Lawton for Rick Reed trade that happened earlier this year, and to my surprise, guess who I couldn't find! Still, these complaints are insubstantial, as the gameplay is excellent. It's a great 1-player game and an even better 2-player game; High Heat 2002 is a great baseball game that is fun for people who don't enjoy the sport, and awesome for people that do. At the worst, its worth a rental.

Could use some improvements

I brought me a copy of high heat baseball and was impressed with it's game play. what was disappointing was the way the game graphic jumped around. As a avid gamer I see that this was probaly a rush title. Most Sports video games are released just before the regular season. I know after playing the PC version the company now has time to focus on improvements.
I would like to see a create a player mode as well as a minor league roster, a career mode would do wonder for this product.
I like the fact that you can hit doubles and triples. I like the fact that the computer runs the players that have a high steal rating. The computer also puts on hit and run. Just for fun I would like them to add a sequence on which the Manager comes out and argues with the umpire and this would add momentum to your team or the computer team. I would like to see that if your fans chant you have a rating boost. I like this title and look forward to playing this in the future.

Out of the three baseball games this one is truly the best if you are looking for a legit baseball simulation. If you enjoy playing 15-14 games full of home runs then go for Triple Play. I love this game as it is truly real. Hits off the wall go for doubles, and if you hit into the corner or the gaps you will leg out a triple. As stated before, even with the power hitters, homeruns are certainly not a given, and in fact are generally realistic to what happens in real life. It is possible to strike out the computer with good pitching, unlike in Triple Play where the AI NEVER swings if the pitch is out of the strikezone. Pitching and lineup decisions must be made or you will pay, just like in real life.

The bugs that I have noticed are a little annoying, but they deal only with the stats for the most part. For example, in season mode there is a major bug in that saves are not recorded, and the pitchers box score sometimes (rarly, but it happens enough to note) is just flat out wrong at times.

The graphihcs certainly leave you desireing more, but they are OK. The mound visit function is nice, but I'd have liked to see the ump come out an break up the conversation when you take too long (currently, it just show the manager and the gathering at the mound talking, then automatically takes you back to the game) I also would have like to see the manager take the ball from the pitcher when you make a chnage, and see the new pitcher summoned from the bull pen. These are minor, but they would be nice, and are certainly possible with the power of the PS2. The commentarly is totally aweful and is better if you just turn it off. I'd still like to see the crowd play more of a factor in these games (and all sports games for that matter) - ie booing the visiting team (which NONE of the games do), and going visibly nuts after a big hit or strikeout or something of the likes. Also fireworks for teams that have them after homeruns (like the White Sox) are not here and that would be nice too.

Id also like to see injuries incorporated into this game in a more managable way. I think that they do happen, but I have no idea how to see if a player is hurt.

Overall, however, this game is the best baseball game for hard core baseball lovers by far.
